Other non-Favre news

August 18th, 2009 – 9:38 PM by Chip Scoggins

Lost in all the commotion today was the fact that Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen did not practice after suffering what appeared to be a right ankle or foot injury on Monday.

Coach Brad Childress does not typically discuss injuries in the preseason, but Allen’s injury isn’t believed to be serious — although it won’t be surprising if he misses a few days of practice.

  • Quarterback Sage Rosenfels missed his third day of practice with a right ankle injury. Tight end Jim Kleinsasser had a cast on his left hand/wrist and did not practice.
  • Cornerback Marcus McCauley also sat out with an undisclosed injury.
  • The Vikings released rookie linebacker Robert Francois to make room for Favre.

Looks like Ol’ Bart will have a limited cast to work with Friday night.

I’m anxious to hear the first hint of what our plans are for the other three QB’s. Any early indications, Chip?

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

August 18th, 2009 at 9:41 pm

Fred thinks Chips forgot the last line he really intended to include:

“There’s your stupid update, now shut up about Jared Allen already!”

homeskillet says:

August 18th, 2009 at 9:44 pm

For reals Judd?

B. Grant says:

August 18th, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Chips wouldn’t say that, Freds. He’s a classy guy who also happens to know we are his bread and butter.

Was in a meeting with Sen. Al Frankens recently, Smooter. He said to say hi to his ol pal Fragile Fred. I passed along to him your regards.

farside says:

Am interested to hear the injury reports on the recievers with sprained and broken hands trying to catch Favre’s bullets. Was always said he threw pretty damm hard.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

August 18th, 2009 at 9:46 pm

Hey your old pal Fragile just got a private twitter message from Tim Yotler. Tim is reporting that Brock Lesner is giving up his UFC crown to try to play right tackle for the purples.

Fred hopes Jared Allen fights Brock Lesner in between treatments on his broken ankle.

Chip/Judd ~ Were all the receivers wearing gloves today ??…

I bet Brett took it easy on them today…

farside says:

One thing for certain boys, Preseason isn’t going to be boring this year.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

August 18th, 2009 at 9:50 pm

Buds,

I guarantee Chips wanted to say exactly that. Please, don’t get Freds all worked up about Al Franklin.

Buds,

Are you a fan of the UFC?

Favre probably won’t play much (if at all) Friday…But there should be a lot of home field hype going on with the fans come Friday night !!…

I bleed purple says:

August 18th, 2009 at 9:55 pm

Coach ~ Mauer dumped another baseball over the fence tonight…They might pull one out tonight yet !!

B. Grant says:

August 18th, 2009 at 9:58 pm

You mean that human cock fighting sport, Freds? No, I am not. Got enough of that rasslin’ pigs and calves on the farm in my youth.

Note to self: No politics for Freds on the AV. Still burned.

“Minnesota Viking QB Brett Favre”. It just ain’t right, boys. This is no good. Bart Starr would never have played for the Vikes, and Fran would never have put the big G on his head.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

I hear what you’re saying Buds. The UFC thing is a bit too raw for your old Pal Freds.

Boxing, at least back in the day with Smokin’ Joe, Casius Clay, Jerry Cooney, Sugar Ray, etc… Now that was a real sport.

Now they have women beating the beans out of each other in Kick boxing or some such thing. Just rubs Fred the wrong way. It’s just not right.

B. Grant says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:15 pm

Favre in purple = not right
Women in the ring = not right
Men in dresses = not right
No Hall of Fame for Blyleven or CCarter = not right

Yeah Bleed. Is he the best athlete around, or what? Gotta pull for the boys til the fat lady sings, I guess. Here he goes again…

B. Grant says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:18 pm

The man is a hitting machine. Take away those two weeks around the All-Star break and he’s at .420.

I bleed purple says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:22 pm

3-4 again tonight…The man is a well oiled machine !!…

Just hope to hear they sign him for 10 yrs before the end of the season…: )

B. Grant says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:26 pm

I’m not worried about the injuries to Berrian, Allen and Kleinsauser. I’ve been told that Eller, Rashad and Senser are working out with an area high school team. Chili has ‘em on speed dial. We’re good, guys.

I bleed purple says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:27 pm

I take that back..3-5 tonight…

He sure found his power swing this year…Mauer is amazing !!

c.carterhof says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Yes indeed Coach, I agree with all of your “not right” statement’s. I’d rather not talk baseball tho, I’m a Reds fan, ugh. But football is here and my team has a chance to be good, really good.

Tomb says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:32 pm

How VERY annoying.

Why do I have to ALWAYS be the one to talk the old timers off the cliff????

COACH. Favre can read a defense. He can call an audible. THIS IS GOOD!!! These are good times. Brett’s going to use Shiancoe and Harvin to his HUGE advantage, and AD may get his 2000 yards.

FREDS: the GOP, let’s quickly recap: W Bush managed to bankrupt an oil company. AN OIL COMPANY!! How the F do you manage that??? Franken loves you, embrace the love.

Oh, by the way, contrary to Fox News, Democrat does NOT equal liberal. Get the hell over it.

Tomb is pumped. Let’s do it Brent.

Oh, and F you Limbaugh, Hannity and completely insane Beck. Losers.

Go Vikings!!!!!

c.carterhof says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:40 pm

Favre in purple? No, its not right. Will it be a success? Maybe. Things still have to go right. Things like luck, confidence, players makin plays when they gotta, coaches calling the right plays, ect. He is better than Sage, I think.

B. Grant says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:45 pm

This pumped state of yours, Tomb. Any liquid enhancement involved?

Yes, Tomb, he HAS done those things, and MAY still be able to. But he is old, has serious shoulder issues, and has a lot of proving to do to his teammates. I’ll go back to my old position: I don’t think it will work, and I am really hoping I am wrong. Meanwhile, we are the ESPN sideshow, and I really hate that.

These people givin’ up rent money for tickets and jerseys are also a weed in my garden.

No comment on politics - learned my lesson earlier.

It IS a good day, though, Tomb. The Twins just won! And… was it hot enough for ya!! :-)

Ole1 says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:46 pm

in the words of the great Mark Wollemann, “Keep it football related”

Tomb, take the political talk to another blog, this one is about football

Tomb says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:52 pm

Ole, I’ve said on more than one occasion let’s keep politics out of it, but it KEEPS COMING UP. I’m just tired of reich wingers pretending they have the morale “impetus.” I noticed you didn’t say a word when it was hatin’ on the left????

I call B.S. and from now on, anybody mentions politics, I’m not backing down. I endured 8 years of a clown in office without bringing it on a football blog. Democrats haven’t even been in office ONE YEAR and the bitching and moaning can’t stop.

You don’t like it, don’t bring it up.

Anyways. I love what is going on FOOTBALL WISE. With Favre “in office” I should see more Viking games for free on the LEFT COAST. I dig it.

Coach, I’m glad the Twins are workin’ for ya, for real…entertainment is entertainment me boy…and yes, a little liquid “love” in me right now. WOO HOO!!!!!

The sheriff says:

Has anyone listened to slereth on espn. First I have seen him before realized he must have been player but really hadn’t heard of him. Anyway he is slamming favre signing and said the vikes will be watching playoffs. He looks like he’s on roids or something. Not in much agreement on his football knowledge even on other teams discussions. He’s never liked vikes or had anything good to say about them. Don’t worry chris carter on show with him and confronts him pretty good. I guess he was a guard for broncos. Go vikes let’s have some fun.

Tomb says:

August 18th, 2009 at 10:59 pm

We went to the playoffs on the arm of GUS F’ING FREROTTE.

You’re going to tell me Brett Favre isn’t an upgrade?

Yeah, that makes sense.

In dumb world.

c.carterhof says:

I know its just practice man, we are talkin about practice. BUT doesnt this pump you up, at least a little bit?

Its a day, boys. Be nice to your ladies, and blessings to our troops.

Oh, and g’night, Brett-boy.

Ole1 says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:08 pm

Tomb, just saying thats the kind of talk that gets you banned on AV

“Keep it football related” you’re welcome MW

Tomb says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:22 pm

No Ole, that’s NOT what you’re saying. You’re saying you don’t like a dissenting voice, and it’s so offensive it should be “banned.” Right? If I’m wrong, I’m a big boy, let me know, I can take it!

Banned. LOL. For what I’ve said. That would be telling.

To my brothers and sisters in the military: god-speed and come home safe.
You are missed.

To Favre: let’s get that GD SB ring.

Tomb out.

c.carterhof says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

And if that doesnt do it, then this will-

http://www.vikings.com/media-vault/photo-gallery/2009-swimsuit-shoot/fb0ea245-b4a0-4cba-a930-155e795471f4

MudHenVikeFan says:

Now that what’s his name has joined the Vikes, it’s time for a first ever repeat
MOP of the Day:
If the Vikes win the SB this year, will you be more:
a) Ecstatic with the win!
b) Disappointed when Chili gets a contract extension, or
c) Annoyed that it’s all about Favre rather than our Vikings

Ole1 says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:29 pm

tomb = ignorant of AV history

my answer to the MOP - C

MudHenVikeFan says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:30 pm

I choose #7 CC…oh, and I’m a Reds fan too…not much of a baseball fan (sorry Coach Grant), but I can still name the 8 everyday players for the Big Red Machine.

kennyrogers says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:36 pm

MOP answer:

C). If it IS “all” about Favre, I will be incredibly annoyed. The Vikes best teams, (some of the best in NFL history) led by Kapp, Tarkenton, and Cunningham, were all acquired by free agency or trades. They were plugged into a team full of stars, as Brett is today.

kennyrogers says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:43 pm

Makes him resemble Brett a little in this photo:

I’ll stop complaining now.

c.carterhof says:

August 19th, 2009 at 12:18 am

Ok Mud, let me give it a shot. I
The Big Red Machine- 1st-Perez, 2nd-Morgan, ss-Concepcioin, 3rd-Rose, c-Bench, lf-Griffey, cf-Geronimo, rf-Foster. That was easier than I thought it would be. Not a big baseball fan either, maybe thats cause the Reds have become one of THOSE teams. You know, Royals, Pirates.

matty927 says:

August 19th, 2009 at 12:57 am

here’s my question:

if late in the season w/ the game on the line and Favre starts to play poorly, does Chili pull Favre and put in Sage? will team mates be afraid of Favre to say something to him if he has a bad game?

okay, two questions

Ole1 says:

August 19th, 2009 at 1:30 am

you’re dead on Matty. Now that childress has crowned favre the prom queen, who on this team has the guts to rip that prom dress off him.

signing this vicodin addicted, drunk driving, family abusing, coach killing, teammate back-stabbing, sore armed, ego driven washed up QB is the second worse thing the Vikings have ever done.

hiring Les Steckel was the worse

Holmgren and McCarthy must be high fiving each other right about now. But not Mangini, he’s always pissed off

Ole1 says:

August 19th, 2009 at 1:35 am

the Vikings should trade for Javon Walker, just to make this interesting

mudhen, i think i can speak for a lot of people in saying that we’ll be disapointed when BC gets an extension, but winning a superbowl would out weight that to a degree. i’m not sold on this move making the Vikes THE team to beat in the NFC…I still think that there are teams just as good as the Vikes, but i do think that the vikes are now in a position to contend for a first round bye
