Favre signing confirmed

August 18th, 2009 – 10:30 AM by Chip Scoggins

Judd just received a text from a very good source with confirmation that Brett Favre will sign with the Vikings today and possibly could practice this afternoon.

Favre is expected to land in the Twin Cities anytime now.

Yahoo.com’s Jason Cole is reporting that Favre will receive a one-year contact worth $12 million. Here is his report.

Other things we have learned:

  • Favre is expected to practice with the Vikings today. Practice at Winter Park was originally scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. but could be pushed back.
  • Sources say that Favre is expected to make his first start on Friday night when the Vikings play host to the Kansas City Chiefs.

I suggest we now have a 24-hour period of ripping Brett for all his waffling and indecision, and then we can forget about that and move on to more important things…..

Vikings South says:

I hope he’s been staying in shape.

I hope he and the receivers can get on the same page in a hurry.

I hope Sage handles this, because we might well still need him this season.

I hope he doesn’t change his mind tomorrow — or worse yet, in Week 6.

Ed Sharockman says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:00 am

How many weeks before he changes his mind and re-retires? But then again, even if that happened, he’d change his mind and re-sign.

Well, he got his way… he got to skip training camp (at least the Mankato portion of it anyway).

Brett says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:00 am

Where is the trust level? This is great. And by ‘great’ I mean ‘crap’.

south-a-state says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:07 am

well, there goes what would have been a good season.

Hey Sage, great job against Indy - you looked poised, made good decisions, had good numbers. Have I mentioned you’re benched for someone who wasn’t willing to put in any work over the summer?

Percy, Bernard, Sid - I know you’ve all been working on developing a chemistry and timing with our QBs. That’s what offseason is for, right? But you can do it all over again in in the short time left before the season opener. No problem.

Rules? Expectations? Teamwork? Forget what we’ve said the past few years. Show up, don’t show up - makes no difference to us. We’re not in charge here - you players are.

Oh, and did we say the emphasis is keeping possession? Well that was before we hired the guy with the all time interception record.

All I can say is I sure hope Favre is more decisive in the pocket than he is off the field. He collapsed last year, he hasn’t done serious damage in a decade, he comes in way behind the curve of integrating with this team and this system, and he will be a non-stop disruption and distraction.

We’ll be worse with him than without him, and we’ll be one year wasted on the search for a real solution.

Don’t laugh, but I don’t think he should be just handed the starting job. He should have to earn it. But sadly, he probably will be the starter by default.

I’m not laughing Goal Line…I wouldn’t even let Brett play in this weeks game with KC…

Let Sage (T Jack if he is still here) and Booty play against KC this Friday…Brett should sit until week 3 preseason game…He will need to get to know the team…

He still needs to get his practice in…

anybody remember 2007, Pack at Metrodome. What was it 37-0? ummmm, yeaaaahhhhh…. he was not just good, he burned our stadium down and drank our beer and took our women. That was serious damage, I’m glad he’s here.

Jared Allen says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:24 am

I hate to say I told you so, but I did.

The whole “I can’t go a full season” thing was just a ploy to skip training camp.

Bucky Scribner says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:25 am

It should be a fun season….look at how Rosenfels moved the team, and with Favre it should be unstoppable.

Brett says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:26 am

Given the injuries already, how is he even going to play? I’m guessing injury prior to this Friday.

Also, why now? What has changed?

Vikings South says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:26 am

Looks like T-Jack won’t get a preseason start after all.

south-a-state, I hear ya. But to argue that Bert “hasn’t done serious damage in a decade,” you’d have to overlook 2007, when he passed for 4155 yards and 28 TDs (vs. 15 INTs) and completed 66.5% of his passes. Could Sagevarus even dream of numbers like that? Not saying Bert will be in 2007 form, but unless he’s really lost it, he should be better than what we have.

Tomb... says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:27 am

Shiancoe and Harvin are rubbing their knobs right now…TE’s and slot receivers will have a good year.

Love or hate Brett Favre, this is the most interested I’ve been in seeing the Vikes play in a long time.

Jared Allen says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:28 am

T-Joke, don’t let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out….

Bucky Scribner says:

August 18th, 2009 at 11:29 am

Brett…Favre coming out and announcing that he was choosing to remain retired several weeks back was obviously premeditated to keep the media circus away from winter park. Favre and the organization had obviously planned all of this, so he could skip camp, yet still get here in time to practice a bit and start a couple of preseason games to get his timing down and gel with his new team mates…

So…my prediction is that if Fav-ray starts versus KC, that the dome will be EASILY sold out in a preseason game. We couldn’t even do that for playoffs people. Bottom line is Ziggy smells a new stadium paid for by our asses in his rented, dilapidated, carpetbag seats.

I was pissed for awhile that he ditched training camp but honestly we now have a QB that can read defenses and audible into the right play. We already run his system, the best pass he throws is the quick slant which is what we run. If he holds up physically this could be huge for us.
