Favre staying retired

July 28th, 2009 – 3:53 PM by Chip Scoggins

Judd just received a phone call from Brad Childress who said he talked to Brett Favre and that he was informed that Favre is staying retired. Childress cited the daily grind both mentally and physically as part of the reason why Favre remained retired.

“I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division,” Childress said. “He knows our system inside out … This doesn’t change anything about how I feel about our football team.”

A devistating blow to this season. Not only did we lose out on a Hall of Famer, Chili now gets to go into damage control with his remaing quarterbacks (a career backup and a never-will-be). And the timing could not have been worse.

All the haters got their wish, you won’t have to cheer for Brett Favre and instead can enjoy yet another season of mediocrity from our signal-callers. But you can guarantee that the only people happier than you right now are the fans across the border.

How many legit Super Bowl contenders enter training camp without knowing who their starting quarterback will be?

I disagree with you upnortvike. Favre is the big winner in all this. He got tons of headlines from the moment this whole fiasco started and will remain a god to the green and gold faithful. Hell, I’m sure a huge portion of Packer fans think even higher of him after today! Sure, he lost out on some money, but my guess is that he isn’t struggling to make his mortage payments…

farside says:

July 28th, 2009 at 5:38 pm

The responses{ some of them} remind me of when you are asked a yes/no question. If the the answer is always yes, then why ask the question. {same applys to no}. We assumed Favre would say yes, even though he never gave his answer. We needed to be prepared for either answer, instead of assuming {like the ’sources’ reported}. it was a given. Yeah it is disapointing. We will always wonder, ‘What if’? But, with this descission, there is no ‘What if’? he is unable to play to the level he felt the Vikings needed. Better to find out this way than have him crumble mid way through the season. Then we would have a mess. Bones I politely disagree with ya on the ‘devistating blow’. We never had him to begin with {unlike the blow of a current Viking, say AD breaking a leg or such}. We were in no position to draft a franchise QB this year, and there really wasnt any savior on the open market worthy of such either. Does athis lower our expectations for the season, hell yes it does. Would be heavenly sweet that Sage could prove us wrong. {I intentionaly omit TJack} As for Sage, TJack, Booty, it us up to you 3 to show that you are capable of doing what Favre can not. The organization did not feel that you can. Now, ya gotta show us if they were right or wrong.
