Peterson the passer?

June 26th, 2009 – 2:56 PM by Judd Zulgad

We noted during one of the Vikings minicamp practices last month that rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin and running back Chester Taylor were used as the quarterback in a Wildcat formation and that receiver Darius Reynaud also could get a look at that spot. Evidently, Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson also wouldn’t mind getting a chance to take the snap out of the Wildcat.

Peterson, who is conducting his youth football camp in Norman, Oklahoma, told the Oklahoman that he grew up wanting to play quarterback and that he could get that chance on occasion this season. “We’re going to be running a lot of scat formations, maybe the Wildcat,” Peterson told the paper. “You guys might see me on Sundays throwing the ball.”

Peterson declined to get into the subject of if he would rather have Brett Favre, Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels as his quarterback but Peterson’s father had no problem giving his opinion.

“Anybody who can keep nine guys out of the box would be greatly appreciated,” Nelson Peterson said. “I don’t care if it’s Tarvaris, Sage, Brett Favre or anybody else.”

By the way, here is a Peterson story written by the Associated Press. Asked about Brett Favre, Peterson said: “You’re talking about a Hall of Fame quarterback, a guy that I grew up watching. I love just the passion he played with. If he is a part of our team when the season comes around, when training camp comes around, we’re going to welcome him with open arms and see where the chips fall.”

Highly intriguing…knowing Bradley, however, I’ll wait to believe it until I see it.

I wonder if he spit on the ground and glared menacingly at his interviewer after saying it.

I would.

Yo Adrians -

Don’t worry about passing, just keep the ball firmly under your arm this year!!!

Can you imagine your Dad calling and texting your boss like old Nelson does? Giving his opinion on how you did today at work. Sheesh. It would be like Adrian texting the warden to comment on how his dad is making liscense plates.

It’s about time the Vikings incorperate some trick plays into some of there offensive play calling.
Would keep the defenses off balance not knowing what to expect.

Pretty soon, everyone and their hamster will be wanting to get a piece of the action ….in the wild wiiiiild Wild…k@t …..THAT’S what happens when you have Tavaris Jackson as your #1 and a subsequent unsettled qb situation…..(continued)

….Chris “I was a qb on my pop warner team” Kluwe takes the snap, laterals to T-Jack who puts it down, Longwell kicks it - no! it’s a fake! Tjack, wide eyed panick…scrambling for his life!! Heaves the ball down the opposite sideline to a streaking wide open tackle eligible Ryan Cook…it’s underthrown!….(continued)

Luckily, Shiancoe is there but he drops the ball, his towel, his pride… Somehow, someway Chester Taylor, quietly hustling, working ever hard snatches the loose ball out of the air and prances into the end zone for a lived happily ever after touchdown! AP, leave the fantasy football to us folk and PLEEZ focus on the great running and on hanging on to that dang football.

Red Right 49…over and over and over..KISS.

Check out the Bernard Berrian video @ NFL.com …pretty good stuff I think. I love what he says at the end about T-Jack… that’s EXACTLY what it is all about.

Urban Meyer is telling people the NFL is getting into using another offensive scheme, besides the wild cat……the spread offense. Something Tim TeBow can bring to a franchise in 2010.

4ever,
Does that mean the NFL made a no no by letting graham herrall fall through the cracks?

4Ever Viking says:

June 28th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Maybe… If the teams thought he’d be a fit for the spread offense only. Lot of people think that the colleges should be using a more Pro NFL style offense to better prepare them. Why can’t the NFL have both? I don’t see any reason why not. It’s not like it’s a “little league” type of offense or anything.

Not sure how’d it stand up against some of the defenses that are being run, but if an NFL team was good at implementing it… why not? Then QB’s like Graham & TeBow are more valuable to certain teams who employ it… right?

Something about him, despite all his collegiate success, teams didn’t like, even as a project

AFVikeHawaii says:

June 28th, 2009 at 3:03 pm

In college there are a few good athletes on a team and then a whole bunch of never gonna play in the NFL players. I am very dubious that the spread will EVER succeed in the NFL because of the athletecism of every player. Of course Meyers ego would want to see his offense work in the NFL

AFVikeHawaii says:

June 28th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

I mean you can mix in the spread like Penn State and ALOT of NFL teams already due…but I doubt there will ever be an entire offense based in it…Like Texas Tech

AndamanSeaViking says:

June 29th, 2009 at 1:59 am

Trick plays are good with this offense until Brett arrives, AP, just focus on holding on to that rock and running into the endzone!

Skol Vikes skol!

I don’t think Adrian was talking about trick plays, SeaVike. He told the newspaper that “he grew up wanting to play quarterback and that he could get that chance on occasion this season”. So I think we pencil “Slash” Peterson in as RB/QB, welcome it with open arms and see where the chips fall.
