More Favre confirmation

June 23rd, 2009 – 7:46 PM by Chip Scoggins

Brett Favre’s agent Bus Cook continues to deny that a deal between the Vikings and the retired quarterback is already in place but WCCO’s Mark Rosen is the latest to report that an agreement is finalized and that Favre will be in training camp unless, of course, his right arm does not completely heal.

The website Profootballtalk.com reported over the weekend that the two sides have a contract in place.

Rosen, citing an unnamed source, reports that the contract is heavy on incentives. Our own Sid Hartman also wrote recently that the contract will be incentive-laden.

It remains uncertain exactly what an incentive-laden contract looks like. Favre was scheduled to receive $13 million from the Jets in 2009 before he announced his retirement. As Judd wrote the other day, it’s reasonable to think that Favre/Cook will want a contract worth that much, which could include his incentives.

Rosen also reports that the Vikings are already ordering No. 4 jerseys with Favre’s name on it.

Rosen’s “source” is Fragile Fred, don’t believe a word of it!

This just in… Sabistian Janikowski has just been named to the ALL FRAGILE team. Anyone remember why?

Chip - Rosen reports the Vikings have ordered #4 Jerseys with his name on it. (most likely for him). I don’t think they are producing them.

I heard they’re having a hard time selling the jerseys. Don’t know why:

Pro Football Talk is right more often than not - this Favre thing has proven to me that they are a great site for football news 365 days a year . . . If you look at the timeline - I have alot of trouble giving Sid credit for jack squat. Many places (including PFT) were reporting what sid said before he did. If that makes any sense. So I guess if the arm doesn’t fall off he’s in purple. Unless he changes his mind . . .
Said it before and I’ll say it again - this is a win win for the Vikes. If Favre doesn’t work out you STILL have the two guys you were prepared to go into the season with.

Rosen is one of the few in media that I would trust. If he says it’s so I’m gonna get ready to buy my 4 jersey.

kennyrogers says:

The jerseys cost too much, Shike. I’m gonna take my Gus Frerotte jersey and paint over a few letters.
Brett Frer V e.
Then have it washed up. Like Gus is.

Those Favre jerseys on eBay are obvious fakes.

A Brett Favre jersey still won’t look as good as my Adrian Peterson jersey.

That can’t be, Goalie! It says “Don’t be fooled by imposters! This is legitimate!”………….er, wait…….

Beware eBay jerseys my friends. Your old pal Bones has gotten burned by a few fake Penguins sweaters he got off of there. The numbers on my Kovalev jersey started to peel off after a couple washings.

$150 is way too much money for a NFL jersey anyways, unless it is an authentic. Reebok makes a nice mid-level jersey with stitched on numbers for about $100 bucks.

maybe they’ll make the jerseys with a removable name placard, so you can switch between Favre and Booty

kennyrogers says:

June 24th, 2009 at 9:21 am

Thanks, GLB. It says we’ll be paying him in the “$8-10 million range.”

That’s a million bucks for each win!

Can’t put a lot of stock in what the Bleacher Report has to say. That said, I believe this is actually going to happen now. My interest in the Minnesota Vikings just went from tepid to boiling hot!

Well my theory is to Never believe his agent Bus Cook…I’m sure he is instructed to say No, it’s not true to EVERYTHING until he gets the OK to say otherwise. So, you will hear that phrase until the Vikings announce it themselves THEN, Cook will Confirm it.

Wow, I made this comment in the June 21st blog: “Favre agreement would be no surprise”…Sounds like I was on the right track with this. Cook will keep his lips sealed until he gets the green light.

Favre = future cake-eater

Jared Allen says:

June 24th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

the fact that a deal was already in place would explain why Chili asked him to come to OTA’s. Usually, you don’t ask veteran players who are not under contract with you to show up at practice.

Tomb... says:

June 24th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

…if the Vikes are already ordering #4 jersies for Favre, Booty must have already given up the number…hope he pocketed some coin on the deal.

dre says:

June 24th, 2009 at 1:41 pm

dang man…….i’m not anywhere near as excited as the rest of you are about getting this grandfather in here.

if it happens i won’t like it…..but i’ll support the man if he signs.

Bones says:

June 24th, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Gotta do something dre. Too much talent on this team to turn the keys over to a career backup and a guy that just doesn’t get it and watch them guide us to another 10-6, 9-7 season and a first round exit.

I’m not expecting the Favre of 2007, but I think he will give us a better chance to win than either of the guys we have right now.

dre says:

June 24th, 2009 at 1:52 pm

i agree with you bones……it’s just hard to stomach that man playing here. it’s almost like kevin mcfail playing for the lakers in the 80’s. some things just aren’t supposed to happen.

like i said…..since i’m a big fan of the purple….i will support him if he lands in minny.

kennyrogers says:

June 24th, 2009 at 1:53 pm

Agree with Bones. Also maybe sell more tickets, less black outs, and closer to a new stadium. The Super Bowl talk scares me though.
