ESPN.com is picking an NFL all-decade team and Vikings left guard Steve Hutchinson was named to it.
Hutchinson, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, and Alan Faneca were the two offensive guards. According to this story, ESPN.com talked to coaches, players and scouts in putting together the team. It also used “statistics, impact on the player’s team, Super Bowl wins/appearances and Pro Bowl berths.”
ESPN said offensive guard was one of the toughest positions to pick. Hutchinson and Faneca got the nod over the likes of Will Shields and Larry Allen.
“Those guys set the tone,” Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith told the website about Hutchinson and Faneca.
Tackle Walter Jones, who played with Hutchinson in Seattle for five seasons and also made the all-decade team, said his former teammate deserved to be on the list: ”There has been great guard play, but I have to say Hutchinson wins a spot. He has been dominant for two teams. He was a great guy to play with.”
Our friend Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com breaks down the NFC North players who made the all-decade team on offense and defense right here.
Thirst!!!
Congratulations to Hutch! He started in Super Bowl XL, I hope he starts in Super Bowl XLIV also ! ! !
…not only that, let’s hope he finishes in Super Bowl XLIV.
Just sayin’
Seriously?
How did Tarvaris Jackson not make this team? He started 6 games in his 3rd Rookie Season and had a 95 QB rating! I think ESPN hates the Vikings and are racist.
Wow, that All Decade Team must be really stacked! Randy Moss couldn’t even crack the line up!
Wait a minute………Randy Moss? The All-Decade team just lost their crediblity.
Matt, Tarvaris was too good for the all Decade team. He’s starting for the all century team.
Big deal.
Freds got news for you, Hutch will not make the all Fragile team. Fred will be coming out with the all Fragile team here very soon. Startings at QB will be Ryan Leaf and one of Fred’s two running backs will be Onarrio Smiths. Mark Chmura will be starting at tight end and Barret Robbins will be snapping from center.
Fred’s, who’s coaching the All Fragile Team? Any candidates thus far?
I nominate the dude from Detroit who rolled up to the drive through in his birthday suit.
Ah, Matt……..ahem, I don’t know how to say this, but, well, er, ah…………………you are prolly first team Wide Receiver,HAHA,HEHE,CHUCKLE,SNORT(oops, not snort, that was uncalled for)
Fred
Fundelicity…Marveful!
How about Dick Vermeil for Fragile Coach? He’s a great coach but so emotionally ‘fragile’. I’m already starting to tear up just thinking about him….I gotta go….
Congrats for Hutch, he has been one of the better personnel moves. Some of you just cannot avoid taking cheap shots at T-Jack. More’s the pity. Go Vikes!
