Favre: We should be pretty good

June 15th, 2009 – 8:31 PM by Chip Scoggins

I mentioned this below but to me this was the money quote from Brett Favre tonight when talking about the potential of running the Vikings offense:

“It makes a lot of sense because the pieces are in place,” he said. “They do have a great running back, a great running game. If I go there, there are no guarantees. We all know that. I went through that last year with New York. I think every player should think that he is a difference-maker. I think you have to believe that. But in that situation, understanding what is expected of you, knowing your team, knowing that as long as we can run the ball and complete passes when needed, we should be pretty good.”

That quote says everything. The fact that Favre already is referring to the Vikings as “we” says he is 100 percent committed to playing if his arm allows it.

Clarification: I wanted to correct something I type quickly below. Favre said Childress asked him to attend OTAs, but not participate obviously. Favre said Childress wanted him to be around the team.

Favre said he declined because he didn’t want to create a media circus, especially if he decides he can’t play.

nice…Chip does the fact that Childress wanted him to attend OTAs possibly spell that a contract is at least waiting to be signed?

Chip is rights. If Brent can lift his arm above his waist, he will be wearing purple this years. Freds will now go back into his room and turn off the lights until August. Fred does not endorse bringing Brent to Minnesota.

Judd ~ catches the “smoking gun” comment there !!!

Chip and Zudd are so excited about Brett coming to Minnesota they won’t be able to sleep tonight. Geez, talk about a couple of homers.

I always hated the Vikings and this fact will never change. If the Vikes pull off the Farve deal kudos to them. Enjoy the ride and I wish Farve well and will still pull for him, if you can figure that out.

Get your red hot Number 4 Viking Jerseys before they are gone.

Fred Cox says:

and there goes Charles Woodson with another Favre interception returned for a TD. The crowd at the Metrodome is really getting ugly now booing the formerly legendary quarterback. Zygi Wulf is now on the field choking Brad “the Chiller” Childress’s neck for talking him into wasting all those millions of dollars on a guy who should have known when to hang them up. Yes, revenge is sweet! Ted Thompson can be seen in his private box smiling. Afterwards Thompson is quoted as saying “Well we told Brett that we were worried about his legacy but he wouldn’t listen.”

Goal Line Blitzer says:

We didn’t really learn much from this. Favre wants to play for the Vikings if his arm heals, and Joe Buck is a slimy turd. We already knew those things.

Hunter715 says:

Fred, get over it. Ted blew it and everybody knows it. If he has the sesire to play then all the power to him. He owes Green Bay nothing.

and there goes Nick Collins with another INT returned for a TD.

Ticket to the NFC Championship Game - $1,500

Ticket to Super Bowl XLIV - $1,883

Winning the Super Bowl with Green Bay’s legend = Priceless.

I hate that Joe Buck gets the promotion value out of this - he’s not worth the 58 cents worth of minerals that make up his body.

In the end he will still be Green Bays legend. Now ted thompson is another deal.

I have to say that I started pulling for Favre even more when I heard that Sage threw 2 picks to McCauley in OTA’s.

2? Marcus McCauley? One Practice?

I bleed purple says:

2 interceptions in the 2 minute drill…

Not sure how many picks in the full practice ??

Fred Cox says:

June 15th, 2009 at 9:17 pm

You could bring in Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas, John Elway, or Peyton Manning but the sad fact is that Brad “the Chiller” Childress is still the Viking’s head coach. Come on now, can anybody realistically see the Chiller raising the Lombardi Trophy over his head in February?

The sheriff says:

June 15th, 2009 at 9:34 pm

It may go something like this
Adrian just ran in for his third touchdown of the game. Favre hasn’t even had to throw a pass yet. It appears that the pack is playing on their heals. They must respect Favres arm!!!

dschrute says:

June 15th, 2009 at 9:36 pm

That is why I like the idea of signing Favre. I think it would go like this…Vikings have a 3rd down and 8…Childress sends in his favorite 3rd and long play the screen pass to Mahi. Favre says I don’t think so and instead throws the pass to Berrian on an 8 yard slant. I think Favre would over rule Childress’ stupidity often and may be Childress’ only chance to ever win the big one.

dschrute says:

June 15th, 2009 at 9:38 pm

oops meant Tahi not Mahi

Brett will double the Vikings total Super Bowl wins. Let’s see 0 times 2 = 0. Sounds about right.

I hope the Vikings do what the Packers have been able to do this year…win a Superbowl with 31 other teams competing for the trophy. For all of the talking they do, most of the Packers Superbowl wins would equate to advancing to the second round of the playoffs given the number of teams that play in modern day football.
