ESPN “stands by reporting”

June 10th, 2009 – 4:14 PM by Chip Scoggins

Judd just passed along an email he received from Bill Hofheimer of ESPN’s communications department regarding the network’s report that the Vikings gave Brett Favre a deadline of this week to make his decision.

As you’re probably aware of by now, Vikings coach Brad Childress shot down that report today during an interview with KFAN Radio’s “Power Trip Morning show.”

Here is Hofheimer’s response in the email to Judd:

“In the course of reporting the news of the deadline, we also noted the possibility that Favre could still join the Vikings once the deadline had passed. Clearly, that’s important context. We stand by our reporting.”

Childress declined our interview request through a spokesperson today. We have media access Thursday morning after an OTA workout that starts at 9:30 a.m. Judd and I will be present and have twitter updates that can be found right here and right here.

Perhaps ESPN should hang a “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” banner on their building while they are at it.

ESPN is getting awfully full of themselves these days.

First they take MNF, now this?

Hey Judd/Chip, throw THIS joke at ‘em and see how they like it:

How many ESPN workers does it take to change a light bulb?

NONE, they don’t want to be enlightened.

How can they possibly “stand by their reporting” if it was a completely fabricated story? Ugh.

anyone else notice as soon as chilli called them out on their deadline report, almost the entire network started to bash childress? schlerth said chilli was about to lose the locker room among other things on nfl live, werder said it was chilli’s fault because he wouldn’t return their calls b4 they released the report on two different shows, mort went on twitter saying coaches lie all the time just look at the injury report, and wiley defended werder too. instead of taking blame for their shoddy reporting they went on the attack against the person who refuted their bunk story. espn also never reported what kirwin said about their crap deadline story the day it came out even tho he is close to chilli. apparently if question their reporting they go on the offensive to discredit you.

Hmmm… so if ESPN can make up stories about the Vikings, can we make up stories about ESPN?

“An anonymous source told me that Ed Werder was seen coming out of a gay midget bar in Flower Mound wearing a baby outfit and high heels.”

I stand by my story.

Judd:

Wilde reported on ESPN Milwaukee today that one of his sources says the deal with Favre is practically done already. Do you guys know anything about this?

I know with everything going on that you guys probably want to make sure everything is accurate before reporting it, but Wilde is a pretty stand-up guy.

Just curious.

ESPN playing a cat and mouse game looking for a response from the Vikings camp…Saying they are making “demands” on Farve with a deadline…(something Farve might not tolerate)…I suppose ESPN will lie about something from Farve’s camp next…Like Farve “demanding” to much money next…And try and ruffle up a response from Bus Cook…

ESPN should work more on reporting the news…Instead of making stuff up out of the blue !!!

Jared Allen says:

of course, ESPN is right and Childress is lying. Since when did Dan Rather become the head of ESPN?

And not even chili is stupid enough to impose a deadline on a 40 year old QB who is 2 weeks removed from arm surgery when it takes a minimum of 4 to heal properly.

Uhhh, ok Brett, we want you to sign by Wednesday and be at OTA’s thursday and friday.
Um, Coach, I just had surgery and want to make sure my arm’s back to 100% before I decide to play, ok?
Uhhhh Brett, you should be able to tell us now if your arm is going to be fine.

Come on ESPN, you’re supposed to be better than that.

Saw Judd on NFL Total Access tonite. So did he win the wrestling match to see who got to be on TV Chip?

NFL network is using Judd and Chip for their update information…And leaving Werder and Mortenson reports out in the cold…
Nice read on Viking update on our boys for the STrib !!…For crisp and correct local reporting on the Farve situation…

Good job Judd/Chip !!!…

Hope you can get a nice statement again today from Chili ??…

It just bugs a person too…Mortenson made a crack about Chili leaving question “if” Farve had surgery on his shoulder…Chili doesn’t report on players personal issues..They are private…And he leaves it up to the player to comment on things that are personal !!….That is something that should be RESPECTED and not made fun of !!…A players private issues should be up to them “what” they wish to have made public…

Werder and Mortenson just keep digging their hole deeper in this situation…

Looking forward to hearing from you at the OTA’s today men !!…

Mortenson on Twitter last night:

“Still laughing about Childress’ line of the day about not even being sure if Favre had surgery. That statement alone reveals enough.”

So, now is Childress supposed to all of a sudden be open to the media about player’s medical issues? Name me one NFL coach that would have said anything different.

Mortenson knows better than that.
