The Vikings and the agent for cornerback Antoine Winfield have been trying to negotiate an extension to Winfield’s contract, which expires after the coming season.
Those negotiations, ongoing for a couple of months, have stalled.
Winfield’s agent, Ashanti Webb, said this morning that they are not negotiating any longer and “no further negotiations are planned.”
The Vikings signed their other starting corner, Cedric Griffin, to an extension this spring.
The halt to talks doesn’t mean Winfield will necessarily play out his contract, however. This is the same thing that happened with defensive tackle Pat Williams a couple of years ago, and Williams signed in training camp.

Maybe they’re going to release him after next season like they did to Sharper. I think the Vikes drafted that Alan Alda guy to be his eventual replacement.
Doesn’t surprise me. I’m sure Winfield was asking for a large amount and Vikings just aren’t big on giving aging vets huge contracts.
I expect Winfield to be signed to an extension by the time I show up at training camp in late July or early August. When are the training camp dates, anyway? Have they been announced yet?

Yeah, have the training camp dates been announced? I keep checking the vikings.com but the link displays the same “Stay tuned to Vikings.com for further updates and a complete schedule” I really would like to see a bit of training camp this year!
