A few hours ago, we wrote that retired quarterback Brett Favre hasn’t been contact with the usual suspects when it comes to communicating his desire to play, or not play, since he was granted his release last week from the reserve/retired list by the New York Jets.
Well, now there has been contact with Favre. Former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, who now works for ESPN, sent a text to Favre today asking if there was any chance he would consider playing in 2009. Favre responded in a return text with the word “NO.” And he put it in caps.
Does that mean Favre isn’t going to be playing for the Vikings this season? As ESPN’s Kevin Seifert points out, this one-word answer “won’t create so much as a ripple in speculation that [Favre] might play.”
Meanwhile, Bob Glauber of Newsday gives his breakdown on the situation.
Â
Good, I hope he sticks to his word this time.
I dunno…he may have replied “NO”
…but he didn’t reply “NO!”
Speculate away.
Great. Can we now just move on from this car wreck…?
Maybe he’s had enough.
Then again, maybe his wife had his phone….oooooooooo, yeah, that’s what happened.
“asking if there was any chance he would consider playing in 2009″
Maybe Favre thought Dilfer was talking about the lottery instead of football?
Or maybe Favre thought “he” was in reference to Dilfer rather than himself.
No Superbowl = No new stadium.

Favre stays retired…OK..
If three QB’s are not enough this fall ??
We can get T Tebow in next springs draft !!…I think he projects to a QB at the NFL level ~ “just fine”….
We got Sage for a reason…Lets give him a shot…
I still think T Jack is a long shot to start all seaosn…
We still have an awesome team going for us this year…Favre ~ or no Favre !!!
Go Vikes !!!!
im not sure if this is entirely accurate, i saw the nfl live segement with dilfer, and he said he asked a couple of questions, one being did he hire a personal trainer. so was favre responding to the personal trainer question, the vikes question, or both?
I still wouldn’t be surprised if Favre changed his mind. Wasn’t it about July of last year when he was lobbying to be traded to the Vikings?
And if he stays retired, Sage better win the starting QB job or I riot.
why not - whats the worse that could happen … don’t make the playoffs, one play off game and out, we lose a SB, we win a SB? With Favre all are possible. with current crew maybe the first option and a longshot at the second.
why not …
OK. NO in 2009…BUT what about 2010? Anybody remember the movie What About Bob? “Gone? Gone? He’s not gone. He’s never GONE!”
Me thinks I would rather have the young sage than the old sage. (Heh, heh, heh, get it??? Heh, heh, heh.)
I got it, Bud! ! !
But, does Brett have anything left in the tank? And I agree, the story sounds familiar:
I agree with I bleed purple, we got a Sage for a reason. I think his style will fit in well with our offense. TJax is horrible and we can’t sign Favre. I have spent the last 18 years of my life hating that guy. Let him retire and rot! I’m not sure sure he would be as effective as Sage anyhow. We cannot afford to give up turnovers and that includes you to AP!!
