Rosenfels picks a number

April 29th, 2009 – 9:05 AM by Judd Zulgad

Evidently Sidney Rice really didn’t want to give up his number.

Since the Vikings acquired Sage Rosenfels in late February, the quarterback has been talking to Rice about getting No. 18. Rosenfels has had that number for several years in the NFL and thought it was worth keeping. As recently as Saturday, Rosenfels said talks were ongoing.

Those talks have now ended and Rice is keeping his number.

Rosenfels told Vikings.com that he will wear No. 2. “We’re going with No. 2,” Rosenfels said to Mike Wobschall of the Vikings website. “I have two children and my favorite band is U2.”

The list of Vikings players who previously wore No. 2 includes Teddy Garcia (1989), Chris Gaiters (1990), Leo Araguz (2003) and Darren Bennett (2004-05).
