The Vikings front office seems delighted that the team was able to get Florida WR Percy Harvin at No. 22.
“We’re excited to have such an explosive playmaker, and felt he was a top-10 pick,” VP Rick Spielman said.
As for warning flags around Harvin, Spielman said: “We did our due diligence, and talked to [Vikings owners] Mark and Zygi [Wilf].”
The owners gave the pick their approval. Spielman said coach Brad Childress went to Talahassee on Wednesday to meet with Harvin, and said that trip was key to the team making the controversial pick.
He likened it to the Adrian Peterson scenario two years ago, when Peterson dropped to No. 7 and the Vikings grabbed him. In that case, Peterson was dogged by rumors that he was injured.
