During an interview at the owners meetings last week in California, Vikings coach Brad Childress made an interesting comment about No. 3 quarterback John David Booty. “He’s doing his homework, he’s changed his body around and is more familiar with the system,” Childress said.
The Vikings selected Booty in the fifth round of the draft last year out of Southern Cal and while he spent the entire season on the roster he did not appear in a regular-season game. He was listed at 6-3, 213 pounds at the end of the season and evidently has spent time this offseason getting into better shape.
“He’s not Charles Atlas right now or anything like that, but he looked pretty good when I saw him down there,” Childress said this week, referring to the fact Booty was downstairs at Winter Park. “Now, that could be motivated by a couple of reasons. He’s going to get married here very soon. I said to him, ‘Oh, slimming down a little bit, getting married here pretty quick?’”
Whatever Booty’s reasons are for changing his body around Childress certainly isn’t complaining.
