The Weaver watch

March 17th, 2009 – 2:49 PM by Judd Zulgad

The Vikings remain in the running for free-agent fullback Leonard Weaver and his agent indicated today that a decision could come this week. The Vikings, Seattle, Tampa Bay and a new entrant all are in pursuit of the veteran. Agent Harold Lewis declined to name the latest team that has inquired about Weaver.

Weaver has spent his first four seasons with the Seahawks and would be a good fit for the Vikings’ offense because of his familiarity with the West Coast system that Brad Childress runs. The Vikings brought in a free-agent fullback last season but Thomas Tapeh lost his job to Naufahu Tahi early in the year and was released. Tahi is a restricted free agent and recently had a visit with Cincinnati. The Bengals are yet to make an offer.

Tahi will return to the Vikings if he signs his one-year, $1.01 million [oops, left out the million earlier, thanks to the reader who noticed that] tender that he received.
