ESPN’s Kevin Seifert has an interesting item on his NFC North blog today. Seifert ran a letter from a reader in Los Angeles that reads: “I’m a HUGE Vikings fan living in Los Angeles. One of my employees and his brother know T.J. Houshmandzadeh. When asked why he passed on Minnesota, he told them that it was all good until they brought Tarvaris Jackson into talk to him (and basically signal to him that he is their starter). …”
Seifert acknowledges he has to be careful about passing along news tips, but in this case it has been confirmed that a meeting between Houshmandzadeh and Jackson took place. We have no knowledge of exactly what was said but there are a few who believed the meeting with Jackson tied into Houshmandzadeh’s decision to head to Seattle. However, others say it was purely about the money and the Seahawks are believed to have had a richer final offer than Minnesota.
Houshmandzadeh did come out and admit the Seahawks’ situation with Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback played a role in his thought process. The Vikings have a big-time unknown when it comes to the quarterback position.
While Houshmandzadeh met with Jackson, he did not get a chance to talk to the newly acquired Sage Rosenfels. Rosenfels was introduced to the media the day before Houshmandzadeh arrived for his visit and then left for Florida to attend a wedding.
Would things have been different if Rosenfels also had been involved?
What isn’t clear is how Jackson’s presence was sold to Houshmandzadeh. Did the Vikings explain that one of their quarterbacks simply wasn’t in town and here was a guy who would compete for the position? Or was Houshmandzadeh told that Jackson likely would be the starter and so the two should talk?
The truth of what happened isn’t likely to come out anytime soon but it would be interesting to know.
Douchemandzadeh was entirely too expensive anyways.
They interviewd TJ on the NFL network after he signed with the Hawks and he went on & on about how good his conversation was with Hasselback. When TJ was asked if he met Tarvaris Jackson ALL he would say that he had a very brief conversation with Tarvaris. When pressed for more info on his conversation with Jackson all TJH would say was that is was a very brief conversation. It was clear to me that he had nothing good to say about Jackson and was just being nice about the whole thing.
This is awesome. I hope more than anyhing Favre pulls another Jordan and gets canned in time for training camp. PLEASE JEBUS!!!!
Don’t blame the guy in the slightest. Tardvaris might as well be named “bag of hammers”
I can’t believe that TJ wasn’t impressed with TJ. This is truly a very shocking event.
FIRE CHILDRESS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can’t believe bozo would actually bring t jack in and say he was the starting qb-and you know thats what was said cause of his frickin big bald ego that thinks he can make him a superstar qb. WHAT AN IDIOT WILF FIRE HIM PLEASE!!
what a surprise.
WOW is about all I can say. IF this is true then there is a much greater problem at Winter Park then previously thought. Why in the H*ll would they want T-Jack anywhere near a potential FA??? What purpose would that serve except (as it appears) to scare them away. I’ll bet T.J. asked T-Jack what a slant route was and T-Jack couldn’t answer the question . . .
TJH would have upgraded Vikings WRs, but if the team drafts intelligently (I know that’s tough with Child-ish involved), there will be better talent than TJH at #22.
I saw TJ Houshgivesash!t on ESPN. I was surprised at how intelligent he sounded and what a good speaker he was. Not really surprised he didn’t think Chili and TJack would be a good fit.
I figured he only had to meet Chillydog and listen to him give one of his half-baked rambling speeches, with inexplicable metaphors, to know that the coach has no clue. After meeting TJax too and realizing he would be starting, TJH probably couldn’t get out of town fast enough.
