The Vikings re-signed cornerback Benny Sapp to a one-year deal this weekend. The terms were not disclosed but Sapp is expected to make above the minimum of $620,000 for a six-year veteran. Sapp joined the Vikings as a free agent last offseason after spending his first four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Sapp saw extensive time during the second half of the season when he played in the nickel defense after cornerback Charles Gordon suffered a season-ending injury. Sapp finished with 22 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups.
As for the visit that Vikings fullback Naufahu Tahi took to Cincinnati last week, I was told no offer has been made by the Bengals but the team does have interest in the restricted free agent. The Bengals have Packers fullback John Kuhn, another restricted free agent, in for a visit today.
this is getting rediculous.
Well at least it’s a MOVE.
I keep waiting on info about that “4th QB”
Penalty machine.
Spergeon Wynn, 4th QB.
you mean our 1st qb? lol
sage #2 tjack #3. whos #1 gonna be?
Please Bungles, sign Tahi. I would rather have no full back than pay him to play (which is virtually the same thing).
Where are the offensive linemen we need?
At the risk of stating the obvious, I wonder if they are even serious about improving this team.
Jefe ? Leftwich ? Is Booty ready ? Joey’s in Pitt, he must have something left….
Could have had Kitna, but nooooooooooooooooo…………….

AV posters wondered why Freddie Evans was given a 7th round tender. (Note: Vike picked up Freddie despite big time legal and character issues)
Then last week AV announced that Freddie was really tendered as a 2nd rounder. But other News Agencies were also reporting that Freddie was available for 7th round tender…
Naufahu is also being referenced as available/replaceable for a 7th round tender. Is there some way of verifying this information independently?
Freds endorses this move. Bennie is a bit of a kook, but depth is needed and this guy provides it.
Yeah, Bennie is good for at least 2 defensive holding calls a game, but at least he’s aggressive.
Lost,
Excellent point on Fred Evans. He got a second-rounder tender and the first time around we were wrong on that. Our apologies. It was always a second-round tender, so there is little chance that Evans is going to be leaving.
Woo Hoo, can you believe it BENNY SAPP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now all we have to do is get a starting C, QB, CB/S, OT, and a Coach and we are SET!! 7-9 baby, I am sooooo pumped to just miss the playoffs again this year. Sorry, I’m still PO’ed over letting Birk go and sitting on checkbook this whole time. Now there is nobody left and we are talking about Benny Who and Fred Somebody like it means something.
I tell you, people are spoiled on free agency in this day and age. I remember when a REAL cheapskate named Red was in town and people had to get excited over signing stiffs like Henri Crockett and Chris Claiborne.
[…] I don’t know about you, but I’m thrilled with today’s news that the Vikings have signed Benny Sapp to a new one-year contract (money not disclosed). I personally can’t get enough of Benny’s horrible tackling and I really can’t get enough of his idiotic, ill-timed personal fouls. This move, coupled with the recent re-signing of Charles Gordon, would seem to signal that we are not in the market for a cornerback like Karl Paymah, who was supposed to come in for a visit some time this week. So the Vikings still will not have signed a free agent outside of their own this off-season. Talk about lying low. The Vikes right now are better-hidden than the Viet Cong. Recent Posts…T.O. Vikings ability to re-sign our free agents is a clear reflection that no one else considered them worth signing- so this is supposed to be exciting news?
The only exciting prospect is that this could be Child-ish demise.

Thanks, Juggzy.
But StarTrib wasn’t the only ones who ‘got it wrong.’ It was widely reported as a 7th round tender….
Had it been a 7th rounder safe to say he would be playing elsewhere next season…
Good to have Crazy Benny back though
Ugh.
I think Tahi in the backfield is a waste..Chester next to A P makes a defense think…Tahi misses more blocks than he makes…I like having Benny back..He made “some” plays for us last year..he was aggressive too..If we need a lead blocker..Let Jimmy K bowl them over…Happy he is back too..Sully should be a nice fill for Matty B…We could look worse ??…
I will not be sad if Tahi is back, he just gets in the way half the time, but for the price it’s not a bad back up plan if we can’t upgrade the FB position. I don’t mind sining Sapp, we sucured a back up and if something comes up better in the next wave of cuts we can go after it with out having to worry about cutting him. It’s just insurance, it dose’nt mean he will even make the team. He knows the system and the coaches know him. Good enough until fall.
