Farwell to visit Browns

March 3rd, 2009 – 6:04 PM by Chip Scoggins

Linebacker Heath Farwell visited the New England Patriots on Tuesday and will also visit the Cleveland Browns this week before returning to Minnesota. Farwell, an unrestricted free agent, is hoping to find a situation where he can compete for a starting linebacker job.

UPDATE: I just confirmed that fullback Naufahu Tahi will visit the Bengals on Thursday. Tahi, a restricted free agent, received the low tender from the Vikings. The Vikings have the right to match any offer he receives.

Dang, Farwell will probably be gone.
The price you pay when you have such a stellar LB corp, and we do!
Special teams are going to suck big time again this year unless we pick up the slack in FA or the draft. . .

EJ better get his little brother all geeked up to play special teams.

I’d love to see the Vikings go after Bryant McFadden. He’s a young, quick CB with return skills.

I don’t understand the fullback situation. First T-Rich is gone, then Toupay is cut, now they’re giving up on Tofu. Who’s next? ? ?

Well, most of our own FA’s are going to be signed elsewhere soon. And we haven’t done anything; most FA’s out there that could have helped are gone. With all of our cap space, the Vikes are going to have to do extensions just to eat space up. Ziggy, please tell your triangle of dubiousness to get their butts in gear!!

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

Who would you genius’ propose the Vikes sign? Fred would be very interested in your list.

Fran the Man says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 6:41 pm

I’d do like Wilf is doing.
Wait for FA to go into it’s “2nd half”
and spend like crazy. The wheeling and dealing isn’t over by a long shot.
Have faith!

swede says:

Fred, to be honest, at this point there really isn’t anyone out there that seems to be of much value. I’d like to see them sign Birk and Farwell. That might be the best option. Outside of that, wait for the draft and let this season run it’s course. I think this will be Chilly’s last season here. It just seems like we’re treading water.

krugjr says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 6:49 pm

can you say……compensatory?

PatrickV says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 6:51 pm

IDK. Chilly could stick around a while yet. It depends on T Jack and the QB situation but look what Childress has done.. 6-10 his first year 8-8 the next 10-6 this year now if im not mistaken.. Plus, he has done amazing in drafts with his BPA style. If he goes 12-4 continuing his 2 wins more per season trend, he’ll be around a good while yet I believe. I know many of you don’t really like him, but Darell Bevell is the one that needs to go, not Childress. Bevell makes the idiotic play calls, not Chilly.

Krugs,

Your a man of great wisdoms.. tell your old pal Fred what should be done.

swede says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 6:52 pm

compensatory….or suppository?

PatrickV says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 6:52 pm

Can someone explain to me how the compensatory draft pick thing works? I don’t fully understand it yet.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Fred agrees with Frans and the Swede. Do nothing right now. Some seem to want to see movement for movement’s sake. Not much out there really. Wait until the garbage heap becomes less expensive, then get back in the game.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Well let me see if your old pal Freds can explain this off the top of his head:

Compensatory draft:
A team is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks if it is determined that they lost more or better players than they were able to acquire during the previous year’s free agency period. The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents (maximum of four).

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula that was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a team is covered by this formula.

Basically, it’s the way for NFL to keep parity for stupid teams that don’t know what they are doing.

Hope this helps

swede says:

The problem of using the compensatory draft is that the players in that have already been passed on by every team….however once in awhile you can catch a break. If that’s what we have to build with we are in trouble. But, patience is a virtue I guess so we’ll see what they come up with.

Fran the Man says:

March 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm

Fred, I ran your last post thru my spell-checker for you. It just didn’t look right to me. Here’s how it came out;

Wells let me sees if your olds pal Freds can explain this off the tops of his heads:

Compensatorys draft:
A team is eligibles to receive compensatory draft picks if it is determined thats they losts more or better players than they were able to acquire durings the previous year’s free agency periods. The number of picks a teams receives equals the net loss of compensatorys free agents (maximum of four).

Compensatorys free agents are determineds by a formula that was developed by the NFL Managements Council. Not everys frees agent lost or signeds by a team is covereds by this formula.

Basically, it’s the way for NFL to keep parity for stupids teams that don’t know what they are doings.

Hopes thiss helps

Now, it looks right!
