Goodbye, Gus

February 27th, 2009 – 2:18 PM by Judd Zulgad

The Vikings have waived Gus Frerotte, who was their starting quarterback for 11 games last season. The move was expected after the addition of Sage Rosenfels.

We’ll have more in a bit.

Kevin never went at it on and off the field with Judd the way Chip does.

Geeze what a boring FA opening day.

I almost wish Favre would unretire so we could talk about it.

If it gets any more boring, I may wax my eyebrows to match Rex Grossman.

Fran, I heard that if you stand in front of a mirror and repeat “Favre” three times, your prescription drugs will go missing.

I saw Corell Buckhalter signed with Denver. With Westbrook being fragile, perhaps there is a chance to send Taylor and something to Philly in return for McNabb. Bring Albert Young up off the practice squad and draft another RB in the later rounds of the draft…

Torgo = Dorko

If I was Mr. Wilf, I would spend as little as possible on FA.

Why should he spend money, we you (the residents of the State of Minnesota) are making is clear to him that you will not support a new stadium.

Mr. Wilf deserve a return on his investment.

“If you build it, they will come” is a fantasy in a baseball movie. It will not work with the political knuckleheads in St. Paul

Houshmandzadeh’s Final Four

It’s a little early for March Madness, so you know we’re not talking about free-agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh’s NCAA tourney picks.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Houshmandzadeh said in an ESPN interview that there are four teams he would most like to play for, and they’re all in the NFC: Eagles, Giants, Seahawks and Vikings. He also made his intentions clear to have a deal done with one of those teams before the end of the weekend.

Expect Philadelphia to win out. It’s the best fit for him, scheme- and role-wise, and it also satisfies his desire to play for a contender.

[…] The Sage Rosenfels trade spelled the end of the road for Gus Frerotte as a Viking.  This afternoon, the team made it official by waiving the veteran QB, just days before they were to owe him a $250,000 roster bonus. Frerotte had expressed his desire to remain with the team, but only if he was given a chance to start.  That never seemed very realistic however, with the other options available in trade and free agency.
