Tahi, Evans receive tenders

February 25th, 2009 – 3:41 PM by Chip Scoggins

UPDATE: The Vikings also tendered restricted free agent defensive tackle Fred Evans on Wednesday. This was expected considering Evans provides good depth behind Pat and Kevin Williams.

The team did not submit a tender to defensive ends Otis Grigsby and Jayme Mitchell. We thought there was a decent chance that they would tender Mitchell, who missed all of last season with a knee injury

Fullback Naufahu Tahi, a restricted free agent, received a qualifying offer from the Vikings today. The Vikings gave Tahi the low tender offer worth $1.01 million.

Other teams can still try and sign Tahi to an offer sheet, but the Vikings have the right to match. Because Tahi was a undrafted rookie free agent, the Vikings would get nothing in return if he signed with another team.

Tahi replaced Thomas Tapeh as the starting fullback early in the season.
