Murphy promotion official

UPDATE: Oops, I didn’t see Judd already blogged the Murphy news below. That’s what we call blanket coverage.

The Vikings just announced officially that Brian Murphy has been promoted to special teams coordinator, replacing Paul Ferraro, who left to become linebackers coach of the St. Louis Rams. Murphy was an assistant special teams coach the past three seasons.

Coach Brad Childress said in a release: “Brian is an enthusiastic coach with a style that will demand players match his passion for special teams play. You see every week in the NFL how important special teams are to the outcome of games. We expect our special teams units to prepare and execute with the same determination as our offensive and defensive units. Brian’s X’s and O’s knowledge of special teams and his personality are going to help elevate our unit’s performance. He will help players get the most out of their ability and embrace their roles on special teams.”

– Todd McShay of Scouts Inc. posted his mock draft on McShay predicts the Vikings will draft Ole Miss offensive tackle Michael Oher in the first round and Oregon cornerback Jairus Byrd in the second round.

– At least Detroit Lions fans haven’t lost their sense of humor. I received a commemorative poster in the mail today from three presumably Lions fans named Doug, Ed and Nate highlighting every loss in an 0-16 season. The title of the poster in big letters was “ZERO AND XVI” The poster lists the date, opponent and score of all 16 losses. What the heck I’ll give their site a plug:
