Peterson earns honor

January 28th, 2009 – 1:53 PM by Chip Scoggins

Running back Adrian Peterson was named the FedEx Ground Player of the Year today during a press conference at the Super Bowl. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was the FedEx Air player of the year.

FedEx will donate $25,000 to the Safe Kids USA chapter in Minneapolis in honor of Peterson.

Peterson became the first Vikings running back to lead the NFL in rushing with 1,760 yards this season. He rushed for 100-plus yards 10 times, which set a new team record.

Peterson also became the fifth player in NFL history to rush for 3,000 yards in his first two seasons. Peterson earned the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award three times this season.
