Earlier today we posted an item that Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar had told KFAN Radio in an interview he wasn’t interested in being the defensive coordinator if Leslie Frazier leaves for a head coaching job. That interview that took place between Vikings radio voice Paul Allen and Dunbar aired this evening.
Allen: “If Leslie gets a head coaching job would you be interested in the defensive coordinator’s job here?”
Allen: “You would like to stay as defensive line coach?”
Dunbar: “Yeah, cause I think that’s the way it’s going to be. Just having fun where I’m at, just really growing and we’re going to leave that up to Coach Childress to do the things that he wants to do.”
Allen: “If Leslie does get a head coaching job do you think it would be good to look at Fred Pagac, the linebackers coach, as the potential defensive coordinator?”
Dunbar: “I think so. I think Fred is a worthy candidate, I think [defensive backs coach] Joe Woods is a worthy candidate. Because knowing the stuff on the back end I think those guys do a great job with the men they have. You know you look at the thing that’s been constant about this stuff has been Fred, Joe and myself. We’ve had two different [defensive coordinators] but those guys I think do a great job with their men and I think their men respect them.”
Dunbar was a candidate for the Vikings defensive coordinator’s job after Mike Tomlin left following the 2006 season. Pagac also was a candidate at the time but the job went to Frazier.
