A brief Q&A with Zygi Wilf

January 5th, 2009 – 3:16 PM by Judd Zulgad

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf made a brief appearance in the locker room today as players got set to head into the offseason. Reporters were able to stop Wilf for a few questions.

Q. How do you feel about the season?

A. “It’s always tough to lose when you get into the playoffs but the team through the year, from training camp on, worked very hard to get where we were. Division champions is a milestone that we’ll work on and build on. Just very excited about the team and it’s future and the direction that we’re headed.”

Q. So Brad Childress is definitely coming back?

A. “Yes, yes, yes.”

Q. You think the whole staff will be back intact?

A. “I couldn’t say. Right now I know that the team is, as I am, ready to come back next year to defend the division championship and do better. I think the experience of being in the playoffs is something to build upon and we look forward to it.”

Q. What will it take to do better and get beyond this point?

A. “I’ll leave it to the coaches and the personnel guys to do that. Right now, I’m just saying goodbye to some of the guys and look forward to, as I said to them jokingly and they were laughing, I’m looking forward to seeing them in Mankato [for training camp].”

Q. Are you ready to get active in the free-agent market if that’s what it takes?

A. “Right now we’re just enjoying the accomplishments that we did this year and we’ll build on that.”

Vikings sign three: The Vikings signed three players off their practice squad to reserve/futures contracts today. The list includes running back Albert Young, wide receiver Jaymar Johnson and offensive guard Brian Daniels.

Are you bored without fantasy football? Check out this football simulation game. You can create players and manage their careers, or become coach, coordinator, or GM of a team. A new season has just started, so now is a good time to try it out for FREE.

no offense, Judd, but that Q & A was as vanilla as BC’s KAO! What’s wrong with a quick, “Would you ever consider bringing in a GM?”

REALITY:
I think you feel otherwise. Here’s a Q&A for Reality:

Q. How do you feel about the season?

Q. Should Brad Childress definitely be coming back?

Q. You think the whole staff will be back intact?

Q. What will it take to do better and get beyond this point?

Q. Should we get active in the free-agent market if that’s what it takes?

I’m so excited that Jaymar Johnson is coming back. He is a future probowler.

Mr Wilf - If I remember right, fans have until around April to confirm their season tickets for 2009. It’s no problem if you want to keep Childress around for another year, but you better make some waves (new O-Coordinator, free agency splash) if you want to fill up the Dome next year.

Wilfie’s responses are that of someone who loves the status quo and is satisfied with being middle-of-the-road average.

Chili .500 the last 3 years should be grounds for a 1 way ticket out of town.

Gotta make the move and don’t look back.
no nads / brains for zygi.

This team will not hold the lombardi with the current regime.

Well there you have it;
Wilf has decided to once again, leave the team’s future
“to the coaches and the personnel guys.”
You mean Dumb and Dumber, right?

I will say this about Wilf; he definitely tried with his wallet to set this team up to win as far as Free Agency spending. He spent a ton of dough on a couple good players who played their hearts out.

The problem is he was sold a bill of goods as far as Childress. We are now going into a 4th year of severe under-achieving and if he doesn’t make a change in head coach and hire a real GM, he could become the first owner of a NFL franchise to lose money.

[…] 3. The Tarvaris Jackson Experiment is probably over. And Brad Childress’s tenure may be, too. [UPDATE: Though when asked if Childress would be back next season, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said “Yes, yes, yes.”] The biggest question mark about the Vikings at the beginning of the season remains their biggest question at the end: quarterback. The Vikings’ missing piece at quarterback was never more glaring than in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles. Minnesota was hanging tough for a while, thanks as always to its defense and Adrian Peterson. But in his first postseason start, Jackson was overwhelmed by Philadelphia’s relentless blitzing. Asante Samuel’s interception for a touchdown was a game-changer, and a fumble on a botched snap with Matt Birk was the final nail for Minnesota. Jackson completed his first two passes of the second half, but with the Vikings still clinging to hope, he misfired on 9 of his next 10 passes. He finished 15 of 35 for 164 yards. Childress has championed Jackson for two years now, but are the Vikings going to finally go in a different direction? It seems the Vikings have the other pieces in place to be a contender. […]

Q. How did you feel when you learned Brad Childress has a blackmail picture of you wearing nothing but spurs?

I want to add on to fansince1961’s comment on Chilly’s record. I do agree with his record at .500 with 0-1 in the playoffs and, most importantly, a 1-5 record against the pukers is grounds for dismissal. Additionally, his choice to go with T-Joke killed this team’s chances this year.

I like Brad Childress, he makes me laugh and feel smart.
I like Tarvaris Jackson, he jumps around and throws off balance, and always looks like he is a deer in the headlights.
I like Zygi’s wallet, but hate his judgement.
I like our offensive tackles - Bryant “I’m a big orange traffic pylon” McKinnie, and Ryan “I’m a Wallmart greeter standing by as defenders rush the quarterback and break up runs behind the line of scrimmage” Cook.
I like spending lots of money on season tickets year after year. It makes me realize that money really doesn’t make one happy after all!

what the hell was he going to say to reporters? normally an owner will make an appointment and dismiss him from there i personally would pull the trigger on the whole t-joke/chilli whith all of the good coaches out there surley one of them might possibly be intrested in another direction for the mediocre team play that we have billick, shanahan, cower shoot even mediocre dennis grreen would be better

You know what words I don’t want to hear after a home, play off loss…”jokingly”, “laughing”, “excited about the team and it’s future”….are you blind? That was an embarrassing 2nd half. How many home losses must we endure in playoff times? Muster up some form of anger. Especially after the Eagles and McNabb celebrated in our faces like a bunch of clowns. Give T Jack an unlimited card to Gameworks and tell him to have fun.
