Pat Williams inactive
January 4th, 2009 – 2:16 PM by Chip ScogginsPro Bowl defensive tackle Pat Williams will not play today because of his broken right shoulder. Williams was announced as an inactive after testing his shoulder briefly on the field. Williams was listed as questionable on the injury report.
Fred Evans will start in place of Williams for the third consecutive week. Also, defensive end Ray Edwards is inactive because of a left knee injury. Brian Robison will start in his place.
The other Vikings inactives are tight end Garrett Mills, linebacker Dontarrious Thomas, tackle Marcus Johnson, kickoff returner Darius Reynaud and defensive tackle Letroy Guion. John David Booty is the third quarterback.
The Eagles inactives are running back Lorenzo Booker, linebacker Joe Mays, defensive end Bryan Smith, tackle Chris Patrick, offensive guard Shawn Andrews, tight end L.J. Smith and defensive end Victor Abiamiri. A.J. Feeley is the third quarterback.
Nick Cole will start in place of Andrews at right guard. Brent Celek will replace Smith at tight end.

The good news is that Philly passes so much Phat probably wouldn’t have been on the field that much anyway.
They did the right thing. If it was just the pain I’m sure Phat would’ve played but he could’ve injured himself alot worse.

But the stopping the run is not what all PHAT PAT does…he helps provide QB pressure because teams put 2 defenders on him, allowing the DE’s to go one on one. Remember, if I do recollect correctly, with Pat out, our DE’s haven’t been AS effective. Plus his talking smack on the field, helps keep the D line fired up.
Don’t get me wrong I’d much rather Phat could play, I’m just saying he comes out in nickel situations and we’ll be in nickel this game way more than usual.

The P.P.’s keys to the game are much better than the Strib’s. Washington beat the Beagles by putting an 8th man in the box and forcing them to throw. When they get pass happy they lose.
But Fran’s right, we’ve got so many D-Linemen out it’s gonna be hard to keep them fresh.

If Pat Williams can’t play, I’m glad it’s against the pass happy Eagles. I believe that is what the consensus is. Can’t be happy, but it is not unexpected. Much worse against a different team. Let’s see those linebackers and safeties step up.

Jimmy Johnson said if he had to choose one back, between Westbrook and AP, he would choose “All Day”.
FOX is doing more realistic analysis of what the Vikings offense needs to do to beat the blitz rather than ESPN telling us that Jackson will fail against the blitz.
Calling for more passes on 1st down and several deep throws since Jackson throws a great deep ball and Berrian does a great job catching the deep throw.
They’ll probably pick the Beagles but I’ve already heard better analysis than I heard in 2 hours on ESPN.

Run it down their throats after half!!! We are pretty good at getting those 3rd and 2 or 3yds.
How many yards rushing did we have? 130? The Eagles defense is absolutely going to be exhausted through the whole 4th quarter. Then we will be able to make the long throw besides pounding it down their throats. We don’t have to have a turnover. Slow and methodical, the Vikings will win this game. The Eagles offense is already giving up on their rushing. Look for McNabb to start pressing and forcing balls. Maybe we’ll get a turnover, maybe the Eagles will just struggle and punt. I like our chances, especially if we score with the opening drive of the 2nd half.

McNabb is about 1/2 of a second quicker than our ‘D’ line. Does he stay that way, or does he start to toss balls up in the air or take that crucial sack? Jared Allan does not get tired!

Whoever that gunner is on the right side of the punt formation needs to be replace ASAP. He over pursued and took himself out of the play. Result: 30 return setting up the Eagles for a score.
whatever happened to the play when Brad Johnson was the QB, he would get to the line and tap Matt Birk if he thought he could just do a quick snap and QB sneak for a 1st down.
