The Vikings announced they have about 11,000 tickets left for Sunday’s first-round playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles at the Metrodome. Under NFL rules those tickets need to be sold by 3:30 p.m. Thursday to avoid a blackout of the game, which is scheduled to be aired locally on KMSP (Ch. 9). However, Steve LaCroix, the Vikings vice president of sales and marketing and chief operating officer, said the team already has asked the NFL for a 24-hour extension until 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The request for an extension is usually made the day of the deadline but with Thursday being New Year’s the Vikings decided to be proactive with the league. The Vikings have not heard yet whether the extension will be granted but that likely will be the case.

Did I actually beat idle hands to the first post?
looks like fans are feeling the eagles are gonna thrash the vikes so why waste the $$$$$.
Earlier article said that KMSP stands to make $300K or so from advertising. If the average ticket price for remaining is $75, they’ll need to get down to around 4,000 tickets left to make a ‘bailout’ purchase worthwhile. Is the 11,000 tickets to get to 64,000, or to get to 62,000, the minimum required for a ’sell-out’?
Gayputz, how are ticket sales going for the Lamblow playoff game? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Are the Vikings charging other fees or attaching conditions to the purchase of a playoff ticket? For example, if I were to buy a ticket do I have to put a deposit down for a possible conference championship game ticket? If the tickets are being made available through ticketmaster, the ticket probably costs 30% more with all the fees they charge. Some fans may not be able to afford anymore than what they have already paid for all season.
Plus, my favorite theory is that fans still have no faith in Klink…sorry, Childress (I told myself I would not do that this week). I do not. I expect the Klink-led Viking team to get trounced by the Eagles. Because to expect anymore by Klink would be foolish.
T-Joke (sorry again)…T-Jax will regress this weekend. I got five bucks that says we see Frerotte in this game.
superfan, the problem is no-one knew the vikes were gonna be in the playoffs till Sunday and if you’re a season ticket holder and you bought tix before then and they didn’t make the playoffs, you didn’t get your money back, it had to go to a deposit on next year’s season tix. People are buying like banshees now and I’m sure the league will give them an extension and the game won’t be blacked out.
I’m going to the game - I just hope I don’t bleed to death in the seats I can afford.
Don’t worry, there will be plenty of empty seats you can move to.
I’m not saying it can’t happen, but I don’t know why anyone would predict the Vikings would get thrashed. They lost only one game by more than 7 points all year — to the best team in the league. And that was on the road and thanks to a bad call and a late turnover that led to a TD.Of course the Eagles are also on quite a roll. They’ve won 7 of their last 11. Of course, there is a hotter team out there. One which has won 7 of 9.
Anyway, no way does a ‘thrashing’ makes sense. Now, the Eagles returning a punt for a game-winning TD, that fits pretty well.
Funny j.ay has to pick on the Packers… the Packers sold out every game since 1960. They had a playoff game vs. San Fran and had 3 no shows in horrible weather. The Vikes haven’t won the division in eight years, finally get a home game, and can’t sell out?
Whose the joke? One season doesn’t make a team.
They don’t have any trouble selling out “lamblow”.
This fan base is the laughing stock of the NFL and all you can come up with is “Packers Suck?”
Look in the mirror. This is the MN team that should be contracted.
Geez if the players themselves would all chip in and just hock the jewelry and other bling they have on at the moment, they could buy all the remaining tickets and we’d have a REAL home field advantage.
Come on you freaking millionaires, pony up!
“…This is the MN team that should be contracted.”
*cough* T-Wolves *cough*
It pissed me off when they fired Flip; trading Garnett sealed the deal. I’m done ’till McHale is gone.
Hey Joe White - why don’t you go on a Packer’s playoff blog and do some of your whining?
Oh wait - you guys aren’t in the playoffs. my bad……..
[…] In the past two days, the Minnesota Vikings have sold 9,000 tickets to Sunday’s Eagles’ playoff game. Normally that would be good news, but after nearly 45 percent of season ticket holders decided not to buy playoff tickets, the Vikings still have 11,000 tickets to sell. […]

yeah, lets hearing more whinning from greenbay fans, they have a certain running back, who is a joke he gets a little hurt in a game that i watch earlier in the year and he is missing in action the rest of game,he signs a big contract and has a bad year, yeah about the ticket thing, maybe if they lowered the price of tickets for this game, more people would buy them when the economy is this bad,we just got over with christmas, and i’am sure alot of people can’t afford to go to the game, yeah i’am sure there are people who don’t want to go to the game because they feel they don’t have a chance, they are not fans, but just because people don’t go to games don’t mean they are bandwagon jumping, there are a few bandwagon jumpers here, but there are a few that say they are packers fans, yeah when they win,i used to live in wisconsin and work there and there were a few people that were from wisconsin, they say they are fans but stop wearing packers stuff when they lose,i’am not a vikes fan,but i’am a ap fan,no the vikes should not be contracted,i don’t think you should be saying that, the packers have had there glory, know it some other teams in the nfc north to take over.stop comparing greenbay and selling out games since 1960 to know.yeah the packers have a great tradition, but you can’t compare sells out know not with this economy,if you do that is a joke, also there is more to do in mpls then greenbay,so of course greenbay as had alot of sellouts, greenbay is not title town, pittsbugh is title town more then greenbay, the pirates, steelers and pens have all one world championships.if greenbay would have kept favre one more year they would have had a better chance of making the playoffs.yeah you are talking trash about the pack have one bad year and saying the vikes are a joke, yeah whatever, yeah detroit just sit a record, but they will turn it around, miami turn it around,so detroit needs the right gm and look out, greenbay is going down they had there glory, favre help you guy for years to be contenders, now it is greenbay turn to have bad year after bad year, every team goes thru this tnot just the same teams every year.so you think greenbay is gonna bounce back and have a better year next year, not with r.grant at running back, they have one good player on offense that is jennings not rogers,so maybe if they get a good rb,that’s all just get a clue about why some people can’t go to the game because they can’t afford it.
