Report: Frazier to interview for Lions job

December 29th, 2008 – 8:32 PM by Judd Zulgad

The NFL Network reports that Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is among the assistants who will interview for the Detroit Lions head coaching position. The job opened today when the Lions fired Rod Marinelli after an 0-16 season and it was expected that Detroit might contact the Vikings as early as today to seek permission to speak to Frazier.

According to the Associated Press, the Lions already have received permission to interview New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. The NFL Network also reports Detroit plans to interview Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and Washington Redskins secondary coach Jerry Gray.

Frazier interviewed for the Falcons and Dolphins head coaching jobs last season. Frazier can’t interview with another team this week, but if the Vikings beat the Eagles in their playoff game Sunday he could be interviewed by Lions officials in Minneapolis next week. Frazier also could be a candidate to be interviewed for the St. Louis Rams head coaching job.
