Pat Williams out 2-6 weeks

December 15th, 2008 – 2:37 PM by Judd Zulgad

The word on Pat Williams is not good for the Vikings.

The Pro Bowl nose tackle has a broken right scapula. Coach Brad Childress said that means Williams will be out from two to six weeks.

The scapula connects the arm bone (humerus) with the collarbone (clavicle), according to extensive internet research.

Williams suffered the injury in the third quarter of yesterday’s win at Arizona. He was playing under a court order that delayed the NFL’s four-game suspension, but now it appears he will at least miss the final two games of the regular season.

Player access is next, we’ll have more later.

Vikes need to win out so they get a first week bye.

Agree w/ Jake

Two home games, and the crowid noise, does give us some advantage to offset this huge loss.

Jimmy Kennedy - MAKE US PROUD !!!

Judd,
check your facts.
This text below is from a better wbesite than what you read apparently. Not surprising!
It is the shoulder blade and I am sure he is in a lot of pain. This victory came with a steep price, hope all you homers are done partying because this team could be in big trouble without Fat Pat!

He is done for sure as there is no way team doctors will let him play and risk permanent damage to the area. Probably his weight that caused this rare injury.
This could really screw this team!
Jimmy Kennedy and Fred Evans will need to step us and play harder.

Scapula…….
Triangular, mobile, and protected by a complex system of surrounding muscles, the shoulder blade (scapula) is rarely broken. Scapula fractures represent less than 1% of all broken bones. High-energy, blunt trauma, such as that experienced in a motorcycle or motor vehicle collision or falling from significant height, can fracture the scapula and cause other major injuries, including broken ribs or damage to the head, lungs, or spinal cord.

Symptoms
Symptoms include:

Extreme pain when you move the arm.
Swelling around the back of the shoulder.
Skin abrasions.

Vikes need to win out and have either the Giants or the Panthers lose both remaining games to get the 2nd Seed. Pretty sure that’s correct.

Guy Who Wins…….
Hopefully Roger Goodell jumps from a 3rd story building onto a bicycle with no seat. As far as I am concerned he can go to hell.

I have been a lifelong Childress hater (well . . . at least since he became Vikes head coach). I feel obligated to give him credit for having the Vikes in a pretty good spot and playing well. Good. Job. Chili. That wasn’t easy.

akvikesfan says:

And, like I said, I think that’s right, Jake. Meaning the Bucs actually don’t pose any threat to us… I just wasn’t 100% sure on that.

So Vikes win out, and either Carolina or New York lose out, then we have a first round bye. Although Zygi probably wouldn’t mind hosting a first round playoff game, as it gives him some more econmic leverage when discussing that new stadium.

But we also could still not make the playoffs at all… that’d be embarassing.

Since when did being a homer become a bad thing? Fred is a proud homer, Fred will cheer and cuss his tv out if Pat is in the game or not. Fred would prefer Pat play, but the idea that Fred will stop partying because Pat is out, well, that is crazy. Enjoy the season DDS and get off your high horse you richard.

Anyone seen my man Viking Johns? Dude is one of the few homers never to jump off the band wagons. As for Fred, he loves jumping on and off the band wagons. And as always Fred nailed the game score!

Let’s sell out (and yell out) Sunday’s game. We need crowd noise to partilly offset Pat’s loss.

We need a new stadium - MetroDump is embarassing compared to Cardinals stadium yesterday (though the crowd was a Sea of Purple)

akvikesfan says:

Too bad about Pat. Just in time for Michael Turner and Brandon Jacobs. Well, I do think that Wyms, Evans, and Kennedy are capable replacements… but they will not be as dominating. Maybe we’ll see more of Robison playing DT on passing downs… that is if he’s okay, he looked like he was in a lot of pain as well.

akvikesfan says:

Does anyone else think that Ray Edwards has been an extreme disappointment this season… and I don’t just mean because he didn’t break the all time sack record.

It seems like he’s jumped offsides or hit the QB late more than he’s made a tackle. Just my opinion… would like to see Robison replace him next fall.

mrhobob says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

We need to call Jerry Ball.

Turkish says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

Ray Edwards has been okay, just a little over eager to prove himself. DON’T FORGET ABOUT KENECHI UDEZE!!! He should be back next season right?!? Judd, any word on his status??? He would definitely start in front of Ray anyway, if he can get back to game shape.

akvikesfan says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:13 pm

good point, Turk. Last I heard, if healthy, his contract will extend one year automatically, so he will not be a free agent like many websites are suggesting. He’d be a boost to the line, for sure.

Ray Edwards who?

State Of The Purple says:

We need another peek at the Green Bay playbook…in true Viking fashion (Longwell, Sharper, Ferguson), I’d say next season we’ll have KGB lined up next to the Williams Wall and Jared Allen…

SKOL Vikings!

Vi King says:

Turkish says:

I can not find any info on Udeze other than the original anouncements from early in the season, does anyone have any info dug up on him? links?

akvikesfan says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:17 pm

I think the Vikes should take a page out of the Giants playbook, and reward the recent success by extending one player’s contract. It’s a good motivational tool. Other players look at that and say, man, maybe i’ll be next to lock up the long term security.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:19 pm

Oh yeah…sorry about that Vi.

akvikesfan says:

From Wiki:

On February 11, 2008 it was announced that Udeze was diagnosed by doctors with a form of Leukemia. KMSP-TV (Ch. 9) also reported that Udeze is at Fairview Southdale Hospital undergoing tests and that he was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester the week before[1]. Udeze revealed that his acute leukemia is in a state of remission. Udeze will get a bone marrow transplant from his brother. He says he plans to play football again someday, but says health is his No. 1 priority for now.[2]

The Vikings placed Udeze on the non-football injury list and eventually injured reserve in July 2008, ending his season. Udeze returned to the Metrodome as an honorary captain for a game against the Green Bay Packers on November 9, 2008, again stating he would return. “You know what? I’ll be back next year,” Udeze told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.[3]

B. Grant says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

If I had predictied that the Vikes would win 35-14, then I would have been right.

akvikesfan says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:27 pm

“The Vikings’ decision to place defensive end Kenechi Udeze on the reserve/nonfootball illness (NFI) list will result in his contract running through 2009 instead of 2008.”

Nothing. I just wanted to use the words “ball” and “sack” consecutively in a sentence.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

December 15th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

Fred doesn’t think its realistic to think Udezes will be back playing football. One can’t take a couple years off from football, and go through what Keneches is going through, rebuilds himself and return.

It’s just not realistics. Freds hopes he is wrong. In fact Fred usually is.

I think we will be okay but certainly not as effective with 1/2 of the wall missing. This will be time for the linebackers to step up and fill the void. Unlike AZ, Atlanta will run at us early and often. And I’m not implying the linebackers haven’t been doing the job. They just gotta help fill in for the loss of the Patinator. We will find out what we are made of Sunday.
