Coach Brad Childress listed quarterback Gus Frerotte (back) as doubtful and defensive end Jared Allen (knee) as questionable for Sunday’s game at Arizona.
Frerotte still appears to be in considerable pain. Allen wore a brace on his left knee in practice and tested it in some individual work after practice.
Kickoff returner Darius Reynaud is out because of a toe injury. Right tackle Artis Hicks is listed as doubtful because of a right elbow injury. Ryan Cook would start in his place.
Defensive end Brian Robison is questionable after having his knee scoped last week.
“Some of them are going to be out working out before the game and we’ll see where they’re at,” Childress said.
– News that Pro Bowl tackles Kevin and Pat Williams will be able to play for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs if the Vikings get there brought a sense of relief inside the locker room.
Here is some reaction:
Kevin Williams:
“When given an opportunity to play of course you’re going to be excited. It’s still ongoing so we’re just happy that we’re playing right now and we’re going to focus on Arizona and making that push to get into the playoffs.
“I haven’t been worrying about it really from the get-go. It’s in the judge’s hands now and basically that’s what we’re waiting on still. We just have an extended period and we can play right now.”
(More confident in outcome as it plays out?) You would have to think so, but that’s going to be his call. We’re just waiting now and playing football. Arizona is this week and then come back and we’ve got Atlanta. That’s the approach we’re going with and staying with.”
Brad Childress:
“Just glad to have them for the next two or three games. Whatever they are here for.”
“We plan every week but we don’t predicate anything on a specific player. You’re really planning to beat the Cardinals scheme offensively and defensively. It’s not like we’re waiting every week before we write a defense down or waiting before we write a play down. Everybody has got to do all the stuff that works against Phoenix.”
Safety Darren Sharper:
“It’s good. Now I don’t have to think about not having them because they’re going to be here. This is a good thing because now we can just concentrate on football. Don’t have to worry about that too much. Our guys are going to be there, the corps of our defense, be there to help us make this push. It’s big, it’s really big.”
First again? I’m going to buy a lottery ticket!
“It’s good” I agree with Sharper.
If you get a chance, read Judge Magnuson’s decision. Interesting in that the “impartial” NFL arbitrators refuse to answer questions about banned substances in Starcaps.
As far the post about the 3-3-5 defense earlier. It’s a creative scheme, but unless they’ve known that they were going to do it for a couple weeks now, I don’t think I’d want to be teaching guys like Ced and Napo something new this week. But I also think Napo has done a good job filling in, better than I expected.
I do think, though, that State is on the right track. The Vikes D needs to sell out to the pass against this team. Both Boldin and Fitz have to be doubled at all times. Use Napo as a RB spy. Let Greenway, Leber, and Sapp worry about any leftovers and blitzing.
Like State said, hitting Boldin and Fitx at the line of scrimmage is crucial. Give Allen that extra second.
Even though I think we need to sell out to the pass, we cannot underestimate Hightower… the kids not bad. But I’d rather we let him try and beat us than Fitz, Boldin, and Breaston.

Fred has to be honest, he doesn’t feel very good about a win this weekends.
Cardinals 6
Vikes 3
I agree AK, even though you think I am touche. The Vikes should go back and watch the New England game from a few years back. They picked apart our D. with their passing game. They ran about 8 times.
Go Vikes
John, I was saying touche as in “alright, good comeback freds and john. I was out of line and i understand that and admit it.” The touche with the little thingy over the e, not the touche that starts with a d.
I agree with Freds. It’s going to be a tough bit of business to leave AZ with another W. I think one key is that in order to buy a little time for the pass rush every receiver needs to get jammed at the line. Warner gets rid of the ball fast so the Vikes gotta interrupt that timing any way they can.
that would be with a D Johns…sheesh
My prediction for this weekend is that on Allen’s sixth sack I start crying a little bit out of sheer christmas joy.
We could leave the dessert with a win, but I’d rather go home with this hombre in tow. Good piece:

ESPN radio is picking Cards. They said the Cards should just give up on the run and pass every down, which they could do against the Vikings. But then again, nobody has picked the Vikings the whole season, and the “experts” are still picking the Bears to win the division based upon our tough finishing schedule.
I’ve got two words for the Vikings, BALL CONTROL. It’s rare that we get beat deep on defense, so look for a lot of 8 to 10 yard passes from Warner. Which is what everybody does against the Vikings. Once again, this game will go down to the wire. However, the Vikings are learning to win those kinds of games.
Happys for you Vi - Have a little PMS do ya?
Showing Sunday at 4:15 on FOX: IT’S A WONDERFUL SACK
Tagline: “Everytime Kurt Warner hits the ground, an angel gets its wings!”
Ak, nobody is out of line on this blog.
No offense taken from me. I have dealt with B.uster for two years plus. If you can deal with him, you can deal with anyone and their comments.
Now, that Freds guy is a totally different case. Right Freds……
Go Vikes

Give Warner a turf sand-witch. Fitzgerald runs like a girl.
Maybe Boldin will begin his inevitable hold out this wekk, yeah?
*week
Safety Darren Sharper:
“It’s good. Now I don’t have to think about taking proper angles when I attempt to tackle. This is a good thing because now I can just concentrate on trying to run somebody down from behind. Our guys are going to be there, the corps of our defense. It’s big, it’s really big, it’s really really really really big.”
Does anyone here know how compensation draft picks work? I know it’s based off of the size of contracts of the players that are lost to free agency, but does it count if you lose them to retirement? Do the players you pick up in free agency or trades affect it? Does anyone know the formula? Jsut curious since we’re probably going to lose Sharper, Birk and K-sasser, we should be in line for a few this year.
