Frerotte has low back bruise, status uncertain

December 7th, 2008 – 4:21 PM by Judd Zulgad

DETROIT — Quarterback Gus Frerotte suffered a low back bruise in the Vikings’ 20-16 victory over the Lions today at Ford Field, according to Vikings coach Brad Childress. Childress refused to speculate if Frerotte might miss additional time and Frerotte declined to speak to reporters. Frerotte was hurt making a tackle late in the first half after throwing an interception and was taken from the sideline to the locker room on a cart. Tarvaris Jackson entered the game in the second half as the Vikings rallied from a 6-3 halftime deficit.

Jackson, who was benched as the Vikings starter after the team’s 0-2 start, completed eight of 10 passes for 105 yards with a touchdown, no interceptions and an impressive passer rating of 143.8. Childress said Frerotte is “very sore right now so we’re trying to settle him down and make him comfortable.”

Childress also praised Jackson for his performance. “I can’t say enough about Tarvaris coming into the game and how he played,” Childress said.

Unless Twilight comes up with a new dual quarterback rotation against the Cardinals next Sunday, it is highly unlikely the Vikings will win the game. Twilight once again has shown his non imaginative play calling mastery. I suppose we can hope for something new like Peterson, Taylor, Jackson, and Frerotte in the same backfield, but you have higher chances of winning the lottery.

Before the homers get all moist over T-Joke’s performance today, remember, it was against the 0-13 Lions for crying out loud. Don’t forget that AP’s 75 yards rushing in the 2nd half and the 20+ yd TD run didn’t hurt either.

Also, keep in mind that da Bears have 10 days to prepare for the Puckers game. It is more likely da Bears win that game, since they do have some motivation to beat them this season. With the Puckers losing today, da Bears only worry is how to be ready in time for Thursday’s game hosting the Saints. It ought to be a interesting match up since they both have the same record and are fighting for another win.

Yep…with the bears facing the saints on a short week, then losing to the pack, it looks like the ‘queens will be able to back into the playoffs with a 8-8 record

Did not AP’s late fumble & recovery

play a big part in the vikes getting a W ??

barely escaped by a 0-12 team.

The 2 QB’s - both very average.

Both would of course love to lead the team

It is great to get that “W”.

Will see what the coming weeks bring.

If the PURPLE is fortunate enough to

make it to post season play, it will be

interesting to see how the QB holds up

(whoever gets the nod to lead) .

go purple !!!!!

WTF, 41 seconds left in the first half, three time outs and we dont try to do ANYTHING? That there is grounds for dismissal. A deep throw, if not open then incomplete, a pick no different than a punt. A lucky catch and its a first down, yadayadaya AT LEAST TRY TO WIN OUTRIGHT. I’m glad we won but sad that we will retain an impostor for a head coach. Chilli got lucky and I am torn because HE REALLY REALLY STINKS.

With the Vikings first pick in the draft, now more likley later in the first round, would anyone be angryif we take Tebow?

He may not be in an NFL system, but he reminds me ALOT of Daunte Cullpepper. He is hefty, he can scoot, and he is pretty accurate. I would perfer Bradford, but he will likley be gone. If Tebow is even as good as Gus without the turnovers, (he has 2 total picks this year, in the SEC) we have ourselves a future fix. He is more mobile than Frerotte, and he gets less turnovers.

I think Tebow could be good in Minnesota with Peterson, and Berrian, and maybe Rice will be the guy he coiuld be next year.

Any coments?

ChadBaldress says:

I think Tebow would be a great pick.

Can’t believe he will be around though.

akvikesfan says:

daunte,

I think that the Vikings would be stupid to not go after Alex Mack in the first round of the draft. He’s the smartest, least penalized, big and strong center for California. Best O-Lineman in the draft, but under valued because he’s a center. Even if we for some reason re-sign Birk, Mack would be a fantastic guard and possibly even tackle. The guy is a beast.

I think they should definetly go that way if as many QBs declare as are expected. It is likely that either Tebow or McCoy will be there in round 2 for us if they both declare.

draft the best player available, hopefully that turns out to be a OT
Cook and McKinnie are not good

Judd should cut someone from this blog, I nominate the fake PGammons

daunte11 says:

I like the Mack pick too, especially since Birk is old. I guess we should pick either if they are avaliable, or go with the guy that is projected to go the highest if they are both available. If Tebow’s value sky rockets after a National Championship win, and he slies like Aaron Rodgers, I think we should grab him, but Mack would be Great too. I think I would rather get Tebow though, because if we fail to get a QB again this year, who is left next year, if all 4 QBs (Stafford, Bradford, Tebow, McCoy) declare?

ChadBaldress says:

December 7th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Can the purple draft a coach ? :)

akvikesfan says:

December 7th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

To me, our O-Line should take priority over ALL other positions, even QB. I think the difference between the first round QBs in this coming draft and the 2nd rounders will be minimal. Mack would be a leader of our O-Line for years to come. In order to secure the Vikings future, they need to improve the offensive line. Without protecting whoever our QB might be, and good blocking to keep AD moving and healthy, then our team would be worthless. Draft Mack, then Best QB available, then Phil Loadholt.

ChadBaldress says:

who knows how far the purple will go

this year gang.

season is winding down.

hopefully the post season is in view.

enjoy all !

ChadBaldress says:

December 7th, 2008 at 5:42 pm

If you look at good teams of the past,

perhaps the 3 key offensive players

were nicely in place QB, RB, and WR.

Vikes have 1 out of 3.

Correct though.

It all starts up front OFF & DEF

It always starts up front.

If Nate Davis from Ball State is available in the middle of the first round, that would be the guy to select. But, he has to be available.

T-Jack blows Feroote out of the water, I was hoping he would get knocked out he was playing scared- Detroit will win one yet- Culpepper made one play that was it- settle down on how we almost blew it_ our D is the REAL DEAL

THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE o-LINE IS OUR ACHILLES heel - and the coach that’s it

ChadBaldress says:

December 7th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

T JOKE doesn’t blow anyone out of the

water. He is an average QB at best

that will shine at times; but most likely

be very average most of the time.

CANTON he will never see.

Should he get the nod from here on out;

it will be interesting to see what he

does (if anything)

fits next week.

will see how good the D really is/isn’t?

Baldress, are you a vikings fan or not? There are other sites that may be interested in your poetry. (poetryfor imbeciles.com,elementaryschoolpoet.com,numbnutpoet.com) Are you ever happy with the Vikes? Its tough to win any game, especially interdivisional games. Detroit came to play and the Vikes found a way to win, sign of a good team. Arizona wrapped up the West today and thats good news for us.

Go Saints!! Lots of Vikings fans for you on Thursday night. Cuz’ we gonna beat the birds….

akvikesfan says:

December 7th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

84, you may very well be right, but if that is the case then the Vikes benefit because much better players will fall to them. Last year everyone thought Woodson would go in the first… how’d that work out?

This year, more than any in recent memory, most teams seem to have the QB position settled far more. Also, this year more than any in recent memory, there is a narrow gap between the top QB prospects and the mid-round prospects (crappy QB year).

Teams that need a QB:

Detroit
San Fran
St. Louis
Minnestoa

Not too much competition it seems to me. especially since they’ll all draft before us anyways. Yes, there are some othr teams that could use another QB. But will Oakland really bail on Russell already? Will Jacksonville want to face another QB controversy? Are the Bears still happy with Orton and Grossman? I think every other team waits until later rounds. A max of 5 QBs go in the first two rounds in my opinion.
