Former Vikings among Hall semifinalists

November 25th, 2008 – 6:23 PM by Judd Zulgad

Former Vikings Cris Carter Chris Doleman, Randall McDaniel and John Randle are among 25 semifinalists who will be considered for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Hall’s board of selectors chose the semifinalists from a list of 133 preliminary nominees. Running back Roger Craig, who was a standout for the San Francisco 49ers and spent the 1992 and ’93 with the Vikings, also is on the list.

The list of semifinalists will be reduced to 15 modern-era candidates. That list increases to 17 finalist nominees with Bob Hayes and Claude Humphrey having been recommended by the Hall’s Seniors Committee. The Class of 2009 will be determined at the Selection Committee’s annual meeting on Jan. 31, 2009 in Tampa, Fla., the day before the Super Bowl.

Randle, a defensive lineman who is in his first year of eligibility, will be honored by the Vikings on Sunday night when he’s inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor. Other first-year eligible candidates for the Hall include Shannon Sharpe, Bruce Smith and Rod Woodson.
