Allen fined; Cook demoted

November 19th, 2008 – 12:03 PM by Judd Zulgad

Jared Allen won’t be suspended by the NFL, but was fined $25,000. Allen had been fined $50,000 for two low hits on Houston quarterback Matt Schaub, then got a roughing-the-passer penalty against Aaron Rodgers of the Packers. The league called Allen in for a chit-chat yesterday, and issued the fine. And presumably a stern warning.

Also, right tackle Ryan Cook has lost his starting job to Artis Hicks.

We’ll update with details on all the news after locker room access.

Think Mr Hicks can remember the snap count? Time will tell. Maybe Cook can play center, at least HE would then never get a false start penalty, maybe.

Go Vikes

[…] It finally happened - Brad Childress got fed up with Ryan Cook’s penalties and whiffs on pass-rushers and benched the right tackle.  Gosh Brad, what sealed the deal for you?  Gus Frerotte getting turned into a human tackling dummy the last couple of weeks, largely because Cook doesn’t get off the ball worth a damn?  Stephen Hawking has faster reflexes than Cook.  Now Artis Hicks will start at right tackle.  He was the starting left tackle when Bryant McKinnie was suspended so I doubt he’ll have much trouble sliding right in.  This doesn’t fix all our offensive line issues obviously, but it goes a long way toward shoring up the right side.  And there should be a noticeable reduction in the number of bad penalties. Artis Hicks was more than respectable standing in for McKinnie.

Hopefully that human turnstile Cook doesn’t let his petit mal seizures catch on like staph in Cleveland’s locker room.

I don’t blame this on Cook at all. Cook was a center in college if I remember correctly. Another example of Chilly’s system. Hey, this guy is a center, but my system is so good, we are going to make him into a tackle/guard.

My grandma beat Ryan Cook. No fancy moves or anything, just a straight up bull-rush. Then Cook false-started on the next play because he was scared.

I’m sick of all these fines. This is the NFL. Not the sissie league!
