McKinnie to stand trial March 16

November 18th, 2008 – 11:12 AM by Judd Zulgad

Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie is scheduled to stand trial March 16 on four charges he faces from a fight outside a Miami nightclub last February. The trial date was set today by a Florida judge, according to a Miami-Dade County website.

McKinnie, who was not required to attend today’s hearing, has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, including a felony for battery. McKinnie already has been punished by the league for the incident, drawing a four-game suspension to open the season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

McKinnie’s attorney, Larry Kerr, is hoping his client won’t end up going to trial. Kerr has been in talks with the prosecutor about getting McKinnie into a pre-trial diversion program, meaning all charges could be dropped if he meets certain conditions. “Those discussions are still ongoing and nothing at all has been foreclosed,” Kerr said.

If an agreement to get McKinnie into a pretrail diversion program isn’t agreed upon, there will be a status conference March 5 and the trial will follow. If that happens, Kerr said: “I’m confident and comfortable with our case.”

I wonder if chillidumbdumb ever thought of it this way: If you had your BEST player on the field actually getting the ball maybe just maybe you could have held the ball for more than 2 min 26 seconds…. what a dumb ass…

Who cares about mckinnie???

I’m just tired of the long history of being a laughingstock NFL team. It seems like it’s been decades since we’ve had any respect on and off the field. It’s always something….year in and year out. If it’s not the play, then it’s stupid things like getting your pole smoked in a stairwell or Love Boat Scandals. Enough is enough!

Tice got the blame for all the crap and Childress came in to supposedly clean it up with Zygi’s new code of conduct. What a joke that’s been….

Has Childress come out and defended McKinnie like he did Edwards? I can hear it now”

“Bryant had no choice but to defend himself by beating that man over the head with a pole. He’s obviously not a big/strong person, so he felt compelled to use any means necessary to protect himself…even though he initiated the beating. You could compare it to those journalists who come down from the mountains to kill the wounded.”

Does anyone know what the maximum penalty is for McKinnie? Sounds to me like he could do some prison time on felony assault based on those mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines they have in Florida when it comes to assault with a deadly weapon.

Who signed this buffoon to an extension anyways? He’s not that good to begin with and they paid him like a top tier tackle. If he’s in jail, now we have to find a new LT which don’t come cheap. Plus, they can’t cut McKinnie due to the salary cap ramifications and dead money that would count towards the cap. Genius!

I’m not sure what the maximum penalties are, but I read somewhere that it was good that his felony assault happened in Florida rather than MN due to the fact that he already has a criminal record in MN.

We should start a pool to bet on which Viking player gets in trouble next and track it. Put me down for the future single season sack record holder Ray Edwards! LOL

In response to Childress’ coments to the ‘Anonymous’ post, and “shooting the wounded”:

Brad Childress, I hope you read this, because I don’t care if you use my name on National Televison, or in talk with your friends, my name is Michael, and I, like 90% of the world think YOU SHOULD BE FIRED! Thanks for ruining our seaseon once again by leaving Peterson on the bench, not trading for Garcia when you could have, and were advised to by Andy Reid, and still starting the penalty prone Ryan Cook, you sir are a pathetic coach, an I do not care who reads it, I have my ownopinon outside of the press, and I’m sure almost everyone does, andif you can not hear the people chanting “Fire Childress”, then hear this, “FIRE CHILDRESS!”. I have nothing against you as a person, although it was kind of obvious that Ray Edwards had a late hit, and you were sad enough to look for a penalty that favors your coaching status, while Garcia is nearly knoced out, and needing stiches, I still can not belive that. Please RESIGN, and be a man and admit that you hav ruined this team, and if you do not leave/get fired soon, you may ruin Adrian Peterson’s career too, by making him your personal bench warmer in key situations. I remeber last week when Peterson personally saved this team and your job, so if you really don’t want to play him, please leave now! I’ve been a Vikings fan for a very long time, and I have never been more frusterated with a coach as bad as you. Give me one reason you did not trade for Garcia, and I do not want some Brad excuse either, I’m as sick of them as anyone. “Peterson did not fit the game plan” um, seems to me like other teams have their Pro Bowl RB’s on the field as much as possible. The Chargers, Cowboys, Redskins, Eagles, and just about everyone else have a smart enough coach to put their great RB’s on the field as long as they are not hurt, but you would probably fire back saying AD was Nicked up or some bull. Please just leave this team, and do something you are good at.

6 more games till the end of the Brad Childress era. We close out with Arizona, Atlanta, and the Giants, probably without the Wall playing for some of these games, the other players will know Chili’s gone and some of them will just mail in the rest of the games. If we can’t get rid of Chili can you imagine how the players feel? Zygi has to hear about not just unhappy fans but national writers making fun of him, scouts saying they’re glad Chili’s the coach because it gives them at least 1 game a year they don’t have to worry about… He can’t afford to bring Chili back and there is 0 chance he will. For god’s sake Zygi start by getting a proven football guy to run the team like Holmgren.

B. Childress says:

November 18th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

Dear Daunte,
I can appreciate your frustration with the current record of the team. Our men are giving everything they have and I will take full responsibility for the losses. The situation and how the Tampa Defense was defending us called for us to pass the ball rather than run the ball, so I predicated , pontificated and dedicated my play calling with that in mind. Have you not ever heard of the KAO?

Thanks for your support!

Brad

Ps. Please take an English and while your at it a spelling class. It was extremely painful for even a genius like me to comprehend your grammar and spelling errors.

Remember all the predictions for the Vikes at the start of the season? Dr. Z at SI even had them as his pick to win the SB. I wonder if any coach in the NFL has ever squandered so much talent before. You let him talk you into hiring him though Zygi with his “Quick, hire me before Ted Thompson does!” BS, then you let them talk you into their Triangle of Authority instead of doing what the 1-15 Dolphins did, actually hiring the best football mind available to run the team. The same Dolphins that have a better record than your Vikings right now, even after all the $$$ you spent on FAs. You got what you wanted Zygi. How could you even have the balls to ask for a new stadium after this embarrassment you’ve put together.

jay says:

November 18th, 2008 at 1:55 pm

It wouldn’t surprise me if Zygi names Sid as his new GM.

kennyrogers says:

Brad, I don’t care how many wounded columnists you have to kill to climb a mountain, when Daunte said, “if you can not hear the people chanting “Fire Childress”, then hear this, “FIRE CHILDRESS!”, if you didn’t understand that, well, you’re not very smart.

jay says:

November 18th, 2008 at 1:59 pm

And how hard would it be for just ONE local sports writer to ask him “If it didn’t make sense to play AP at the end of the TB game, why did it make sense to play him at the end of the GB game?”

If Zygi’s giving Chili a gameball for GB missing a FG, he’s as big a tool as Chili.
