Rice expects to play

October 17th, 2008 – 2:08 PM by Chip Scoggins

UPDATE: Just got the injury report and linebacker David Herron is out because of a hip injury.

Safety Madieu Williams (neck) is listed as questionable after being listed as doubtful last week. Williams got clearance for full contact in practice this week and Childress said Friday that Williams has experienced no setbacks in that regards.

Players who were listed as questionable were: Bernard Berrian (knee), Erin Henderson (knee) and Sidney Rice (knee).

Wide receiver Sidney Rice said Friday he “definitely” will play on Sunday after missing three of the past four games because of sprained PCL in his right knee.

“I was close [the last few weeks] but it was coach’s decision, him deciding on what he really needed out there,” Rice said. “He needed a couple extra special-teams players. That was fine with me. I know I wasn’t 100 percent. Anything to help the team. I wasn’t upset or anything.”

Rice, who has battled an stomach virus and knee injury this season, has only three catches for 37 yards and one touchdown.

– Safety Darren Sharper was not fined for his big hit that knocked Calvin Johnson out of the game. An NFL spokesperson said Johnson had established possession and was a runner when Sharper made contact. Once he is a runner he is not considered a defenseless player.

– Dontarrious Thomas said he, Napoleon Harris and Vinny Ciurciu have split reps at middle linebacker the past two days. Thomas said he’s also getting reps in all four phases of special teams.
