Today’s inactives

October 12th, 2008 – 10:52 AM by Chip Scoggins

The Vikings just announced their inactives for today’s game. They are: wide receiver Sidney Rice, safety Madieu Williams, fullback Thomas Tapeh, offensive tackle Drew Radovich, offensive tackle Marcus Johnson, fullback Jeff Dugan and defensive tackle Letroy Guion. John David Booty is the No. 3 quarterback.

Rice has now missed three of the last four games after suffering a sprained PCL in his right knee. He was listed as questionable.

This is the fourth straight game Tapeh has been inactive. Dugan played last week for the first time but he is inactive again.

Cornerback Benny Sapp is back after being inactive last week.

Linebacker Erin Henderson was questionable after suffering a concussion last week but is able to play.

Williams was listed as doubtful this week as he works his way back from a neck injury.

Detroit’s key inactives are: quarterback Jon Kitna. Dan Orlovsky will get the start in his place.

Right guard Stephen Peterman (hand) is out and will be replaced by Manny Ramirez. On defense, cornerback Travis Fisher (knee) will be replaced by Brian Kelly.

Bones says, “GunslingerCA = idiot. Go buy “Football for Dummies” and learn something about the sport.”

This is coming from the same moron who keeps defending the Fake Buster!

Bones, go buy “Bloggers for Dummies” and see if your picture is posted in it.

Bones = Berrian “Revisionist History” fraud.

Gawd, the Lions are awful. Just AWFUL! Kitna is out so the Vikes better win by 15 points plus.

However, if they somehow manage to lose this game, Childress should be escorted off the field and straight to the airport……And let the Leslie Frasier era begin.

FIRE CHILDRESS NOW!!!!!

I’d say 28-10, vikes.

Anybody else thinks it cuold do some good for the Vikes to look at trading for Tony G?

RagnaroK says:

October 12th, 2008 at 11:53 am

No on Tony Gonzalez, too much for the vikes to give up after last offseason, they are old in some positions and cant afford to go another season without higher round draft picks…

cheeseweasel says:

October 12th, 2008 at 11:55 am

Shainco knows how to get open, if he starts catching the ball, were set at TE. That, or sign a FA next year. Gonzo at anything more than a late 4th is too expensive.

akvikesfan says:

October 12th, 2008 at 11:56 am

I think he’s worlds better than Shiancoe. He’s older, yeah, but there’s still three years left on his contract, which is not a real expensive contract.

According to PFT, the Chiefs are asking a 2nd and 5th, but willing to go lower. I think a 3rd a 7th is worth it, especially if the Pack and Giants keep sniffing around him.

[…] Sidney Rice’s second season in the NFL is turning into a disaster.  He’s inactive again this week, the third time in six games he has failed to make it onto the field.  The Vikings will dress four receivers for today’s game, and one of them, Robert Ferguson, is basically a special teams guy.  Only a Brad Childress team would be happy to go into each game with three viable wide receiver options. Fragile Fred Smoot says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:19 pm

Freds has a solution…put Tjax back in, let him do a 5 step drop, then run like a mad mans…when he gets injured put Feroooch back in..

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Let’s make TJ a receiver, use the single wing formation, and snap directly to TJ. That should completely confuse the Lions and TJ can then lateral to Peterson.

3) Gus Ferooch missed 3 more open receivers
4) Igor Oloshofsky looks like a Junior High passer.
5)No more shots of Clarissa the hottie.

Yawns.

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Don’t forget with Zygi watching from the box, there is no way he can be pleased with this “offensive scheme”. Someone has been sipping too much of something to seriously believe that the offense is creative (aka the flabbergasted head coach we have). What should really happen to maximize the exorbitant salary to Colonel Klink is to keep him on as a punter consultant. That way he can maximize his punter evaluations time every day of the year. Wouldn’t it have been meaningful time spent making an offensive game plan on a short week!!!!!????

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:38 pm

Them’s fightin words my old friend Stugels. Your ons!!!

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:43 pm

Lest we forget, no wins equals no new stadium for Colonel Klink to lose in. I would think that would be a motivating factor on Vikings ownership to pull the Klink plug sooner instead of later. If Orton can throw for a career day, then what is the problem with the Vikings? It is not from lack of talent. Could it be lack of coaching leadership and motivation? Maybe the players are committing mutiny to make a statement when favored to win by 13 1/2?

drradulescu says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:44 pm

Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. I feel ill. I volunteer to drive Childress to the state line and push him out. Which state do you think would take him? I may have drive all the way to Canada. Wilf, please wake up to the fact that the only thing Childress’ offensive has kicked has been your…….

drradulescu says:

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

Bleed purples, excellent points, howevers, there isn’t much talent on offense, let’s be honest my old pal

south-a-state says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

so the O-line has given up 4 sacks in a half, can’t open any holes for AD, and the defense has given up two huge plays and is dropping like a rock from the heights of the rushing defense standings.

anyone else think it looks like Chili has lost his team? (and that takes some doing coming off of an upset win and playing at home!)

joe_blow says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:48 pm

I love making rookies look good. I think we’ve made every rookie we’ve ever played against look like Tom Brady.

The again, the KAO has produced a whooping 2 points — and that’s the KAO defense.

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:49 pm

I cannot take it anymore. I think I will watch the Cowboys supposedly trounce the Arizona Cardinals instead. That game might be more relevant and entertaining. No need to waste time on the Packers saga. Holmgren will find a way to beat his former team in Seattle today.

south-a-state says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:50 pm

Hmm. Even the most pessimistic anti-bandwagon, anti-TJax folks here wouldn’t have believed it if I had said over the summer that the Lions would start Orlavsky, the Bears would start Orton, the Pack would start Rodgers - and the Vikes would have the worst QB’ing in the conference. . .

stugel says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:50 pm

Puntergate combined with comedown after wild and weird gift win from the Saints + typical Vikings ability to play down to opponents level + Childress coaching = wetting the bed against the Motor City Kitties.

Idle Hands says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:53 pm

Now we’re playing kickball Berrian?

bigjimmy007 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:53 pm

There is a reasonable amount of talent on offense - too bad Childress and Bevell don’t know how to use it. I’ve been supportive of Chili until this year - last week’s game was entertaining, but not the kind of stuff that shows they are a good football team. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt, and Zygi has given him the tools (the players, not the brains). But the play has been genuinely uninspired. If the Vikes crap out this week and bomb against the Bears next week, I say can both Chili and Bevell going into the bye week and make Frazier the coach. It would be a good audition for him, and if he can do what Chili couldn’t, retain him as head coach next season.

ScottStrohkirch says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:53 pm

Too bad they can’t list the Head Coach as inactive because of an inactive imagination.

Zygi, Fire Childress now and let Leslie Frazier run the team. I think it is worth the shot.

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

Ohh, I am not saying the KAO is loaded with receiver and offensive line talent compared to the rest of the team. However, if da Bares can walk all over the kittens, then the Vikings can do it too, when motivated, coached, and a real creative offense is employed during the game.

There is definitely something wrong with the defensive backfield when for years, every single rookie or castoff QB looks like the all world perfect passer.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

October 12th, 2008 at 1:55 pm

If Herman Munster doesn’t start about the “trap” game, Freds will fist fight him. It’s not a trap, the Vikings offense and Feroooch just stink

So, unless Winfield is able to score some points again today, not only will the point spread not be met, but the Vikings will lose. It starts at the top, and if Colonel Klink cannot take responsibility like he is supposed to, then the end of the Klink era is imminent. He certainly has done all possible to alienate the fan base……………..

drradulescu says:

south-a-state says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:02 pm

I agree that if we tank this one Chili should be gone at the Bye. But why Frazier? Isn’t it his D that has given up two huge plays today and, as BleedPurple notes, makes rec league QBs look like Pro Bowlers?

For the remainder of the season, bring in some retired caretaker if you must - Martyball, Cowher, whatever. But I’m not sold on Frazier. If we need a change, lets clean house and not keep anyone tainted by this excrutiatingly bad play.

woodog427 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

Wow… last series aside, this has been another snooze of a game. How can so much talent play so unenthusiastically? Is it really THAT hard to recover from a Monday night game? Other teams do it… We’ve given Detroit’s rookie QB his first TD, their D how many SACKS(?), their D’s first interception and possibly their first victory of the season.

south-a-state says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

Has a coach ever been fired mid-game? If not, Zygi should make history. Recent touchdown aside, this crap is getting more embarrassing by the week. The Minnesota Vikings should be beating the worst team in the NFL by about 25-30 points right now, based on talent available. But if your coach is a total buffoon (he is) then you will struggle to win even the easiest games.

C’mon, Zygi, go downstairs and fire him on TV. That would be AWESOME.

I’d go for 2 in ANY situation where I can tie the game and NOT put the game out of reach with a field goal, cause that would be COMMON SENSE.

October 12th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Impressive showing from your Vikings so far!

joe_blow says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

I disagree, you need the 2! What, are the lions going to get 2 field goals and the Vikings one touchdown?

Jaswany says:

Zygi is waiting in the locker room to fire Childress

akvikesfan says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

After waht we just saw from the O-Line, there is abspolutley no reason to think that a 2 point conversion is likely.

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

BTW, the last I checked it is not common practice in the NFL to not attempt two before the 4th quarter. But what do I know? More likely it is the “brilliant” head coach not having any faith whatsoever in the offense to make it. Orrrrrrrrrr, this same guy totally neglected to practice two point conversions this week due to punter evaluation time instead.

sdviking99 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

The odds are against you in converting a two point conversion. So the odds say you will be down 10-8. Another Lions touchdown then makes it a two possession game at 17-8. Go for the two later and let the game develop now. You all are assuming a two point conversion is a gimme. It isn’t. I’m not defending Childress. In fact I want him fired right now. But you don’t go for two in the third quarter unless your down by 24 or more.

Go Gophers says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

We fired Tice for this.

chilly has Wilf’s ear since he has been here and has given everything chilly has wanted, including a free agent signing who has not been active for the past two weeks.

I just can’t believe that the owner still buys into this guys credentials as a coach. Get rid of Chilly now! Bevell also must go… he must have trained under the Gary Q of offense play calling

Let this thing die and start over again. Mike Grant could do better than this mess!

and another thing. . . could McCauley be any worse at coverage than Griffin? Really? Can’t we at least give it a try and find out? I love watching Ced pop runners; he’s a great hitter, but there is a reason every coach so far this year has game planned picking on him in the passing game.

woodog427 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

Why do the fans show up to the games week after week? I know that the season ticket holders are screwed (they’ve already forked over their money), but what about the walk up business? Losing money is apparently the ONLY thing that will force a change in management… All our collective complaining over Childress’ ineptness falls on deaf ears.

joe_blow says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

I’ve never understood the logic of going for 2 later. Wouldn’t you rather know what you absolutely need? I’d rather take the risk with ticks on the clock left.

I see you’re guys logic on the 2 pt conversion, but I still say in THIS GAME and how its gone that going for 2 there was the right call, what will you say if we lose 10-9? That would mean Chili blew the only chance we had to tie it, and he HAD the chance too.

I know its not a gimme, but nothing about the score and being able to change it with a field goal afterword changes from 9 to 8 points

woodog427 says:

If this were any other business, including other NFL teams, the ownership closely watches everything and performs a cost benefit analysis. Also, the quest for a new stadium is added into that analysis. The end results dictate what happens next from the ownership.

I hope and pray that Zygi is waiting in Colonel Klink’s office right as the team walks into the locker room and does not allow anybody to leave until ownership has a little unplanned conference with first Colonel Klink, explaining how many boxes are to be used for the KAO as it is packed up and burned. Second, to explain to the rest of the employees (remaining coaching staff and players) exactly how the future of each and every one of them is directly dependent on winning and playing like every game is your last with the organization. Maybe that will properly motivate everyone to stop screwing around.

sdviking99 says:

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

So, here is what I see occurring before the day is over. The KAO eats up two or three more possessions. The flabbergasted head coach does not know whether to go for a touchdown or a FG to win the game with fifteen seconds remaining at the kitties 1 yard line. With three timeouts still to burn, two are used to the call the “perfect” play that the kitties will never ever see coming (AP up the middle with Tahi blocking instead of Kleinsasser). Right after the four yard loss, Longwell comes in with two seconds left on the clock. This time the whole offensive FG team line has been replaced to fool the kitties even more. As the center snaps the ball, Longwell winds up to kick it right into the hands of the kitten who roars, and the ball game for a 95 yard blocked return for a TD with zero time remaining. How is that for Colonel Klink fortune torture telling????

joe_blow says:

October 12th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

tenthreeleader says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Let’s be honest. This was a brutally bad football game between two substandard teams, one of which is handcuffed by the worst offensive coaching and playcalling in the NFL. For the second straight week, a huge officials’ call has been instrumental in a last second win. If Childress thinks this is a springboard to anything, he needs to think again.

Take A Risk says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Can we find out how much practice time Chili is now working on the top secret downfield pass interference play? His got to be putting a lot of time into this new brilliant play of his.

my message to Zygi Wilf on my site after the Saints game applies Ten fold after this one…

Congrats on pulling out the victory, but the Vikes did not 1 single hundredth of a percentage point deserve to win this game. I place that blame ALL on the HEAD COACH. The only thing Brad Childress has shown me as a coach is his Uber-ability to make his team play mediocre. Fire this man right now, because I don’t want to have keep talking about how bad he is for the rest of the season. The vikes may be tied now for NFC north supremacy, but to me it feels like we are battling for the #1 pick, this is a sign that your coach should be FIRED.

I think I am going to plan for no longer torturing myself with the current KAO master plan of defensive pass interference to win a game. Instead, I am going to spend time ogling beautiful women on Sundays. I get way more fun from that, instead of this Twilight Zone Head Coach Fiasco. I have never seen or thought that my fictitious prediction above would be so close to reality. If only I had predicted the pass interference call play, I could go to Vegas and be very well off right now from the gambling winnings. Colonel Klink does not deserve any credit for this “keeping things close” KAO mess. It is absolutely screwy and I am tired of it.

BleedPurple says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

Got me how Reusse could possibly defend this win like last week’s. I cannot remember any Grant coached team playing like this one today. I wonder what Grant thinks of today’s effort? I wonder if Zygi is meeting with Colonel Klink behind a closed door again?

Something else to consider, this morning before the games started, the ESPN radio guy was postulating that today may not go so well for Washington and Minnesota. Makes me wonder what the guy knew from rumor mill land. Both games were exceedingly close and Washington lost by two. The Vikings were not even close to making spread, even though a win occurred in spite of the Twilight Zone Head Coach.

MDVikes says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:36 pm

What! We won without an Antoine Winfield TD? Can we count that as progress? Oops, forgot about that safety…margin of victory.

Well after today I will never listen to anyone whine about the refs evere again, they single handedly won us the game this week and sure helped us last week…Childress is a retard.

MDVikes says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:43 pm

Was PO’d at sloppy play. Peterson not taking care of the ball, OL bad run blocking, too many holding penalties. Was about to send signed letter of protest to Zygi but then realized I have it good this week. Neighbor Ravens fans - crushed by old Indy team. Proud Skins fans - actually lost at home to Lions equivalent in St. Louis.

Vikings’ goats:

OL (they look old, slow, sloppy)
Coaches: way to go for TD’s (not!)
AP: I know, sacrilege, but Mr. Crushing Handshake can’t hold on to the ball right now.

Heroes:

Berrian
Frerotte (like aggressive mindset)
Longwell

meshrodes says:

The Vikings win again! All you nay sayers have something to complain about for another week! Let’s face the facts, the receiving core is terrible at best. Our only hope is pass interference calls. If you watch the game again you will see that the receivers can’t separate from hopeless players like Dwight Smith. Did you see Frerotte’s frustration? The receivers were no where to be found. You can’t blame Childress for an inexperienced/underperforming receiving core. My guess is that Wilf will open his check book to sign a big name receiver in the coming offseason to upgrade the receiving core.

FargoVikesFan says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:50 pm

Berrian is FINALLY starting to earn his money.

CHILDRESS NEEDS TO BE FIRED BEFORE THE DAY IS OVER…

sdh13 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:52 pm

highonfire..correct…Chili’s still in their locker room blowing them all so it will be awhile til his post agme press conference

sdh13 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:56 pm

the only thing making Berrian look good now is the horrible competition…he has had the luck of going against 2 of the worst defenses in the NFL to pad his stats here for a couple weeks

MDVikes says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

I agree, Childress is overwhelmed and doesn’t belong on an NFL sideline. What do the realists say? We can scream in CAPS all we want, Wilf will not fire him in-season unless they totally tank.

AP becoming fumble-prone. Will Sidney Rice ever play? Injury-prone.

Jared Allen is not beating one-on-one blocking. He got the money up front. Berrian starting to come through.

sdh13 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

sdh13 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

I’m trying to figure out how Allen gets credit for a sack when the dumb ass QB steps out of the end zone without being touched…to get credit for a sack on that is super lame…MDVikes ..correct on the point of Allen not beating one on one blocking even… his move is to try the speed rush all the time and if he actually does get past the tackle on it….he ends up 10 yards behind the QB

sdh13 says:

October 12th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

all 3 of the Bears losses have come at the end of the game..just think if they had CHILI”S luck

Jake says:

October 12th, 2008 at 4:14 pm

Wait . . . are you guys saying the Vikes still aren’t awesome even though they overpowered the mighty Lions today?

meshrodes says:

October 12th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

Vikings win, Lions lose, Bears lose, Green Bay is losing. Its a weak conference and a long season! The team is starting to gel. We don’t have Red McCombs as an owner, Williamson is nowhere to be found and the beer is still cold in Minnesota! Things could be worse…

Jake says:

October 12th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

And it seems like some of you think head coach Brad Childress didn’t know what he was doing when he called for the old pass interference play to Aundrae what-is-separation-anyway Allison. That was the perfect call after the always popular Ryan Cook holding play.
