Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield is one of five finalists for the NFL Defensive Player of the Week honors. Winfield had an oustanding game Monday night at New Orleans finishing with eight tackles, getting a sack and forcing a fumble that he recovered to set up a touchdown and also returning a blocked field goal 59 yards for a touchdown.
The other finalists are:
– Indianapolis’ Gary Brackett, who made five tackles and recovered a fumble for a 68-yard fourth-quarter touchdown in the Colts’ 31-27 victory over the Houston Texans.
– Arizona’s Travis La Boy, who led the Cardinals with seven tackles and had two sacks in the Cardinals’ 41-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
– Houston’s Mario Williams, who made four tackles including two sacks in the Texans’ 31-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
– Pittsburgh’s La Marr Woodley, who led all Steelers with six solo tackles, two sacks, three tackles for losses and three quarterback hits helping to limit the Jaguars to 213 total yards on offense in the Steelers’ 26-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Shouldn’t Childress get this award? After all, it’s ChiliDipWad’s genius coaching that resulted in Winfield just standing there waiting for the blocked FG to batted into his hand. That was all Chili’s grand master design and masterful coaching — don’t believe me? Just look at ChiliDipWad’s comments from after the game last night:
“On Winfield’s touchdown return after a blocked field goal by Kevin Williams: “First of all we’ve spent a lot of time on that field-goal block unit. I think we’ve forced two misses so far to date. Obviously, we were able to block that one. We thought we saw something. It takes those guys at the end of a drive something to muster up to be able to attack that. I thought obviously Fred [Evans] and Pat [Williams] and Kevin [Williams] and Jared [Allen], all those guys who contribute on that inside push did a great job of changing the line of scrimmage, which is what you need to be able to do. And then Antoine really is the beneficiary of that block. He’s coming off looking for it.””
