Today’s inactives

September 14th, 2008 – 10:43 AM by Chip Scoggins

The Vikings inactives for today’s game are safety Medieu Williams, cornerback Marcus McCauley, kick returner Maurice Hicks, offensive tackle Drew Radovich, linebacker Erin Henderson, fullback Jeff Dugan and defensive tackle Letroy Guion. John David Booty is the No. 3 quarterback.

Hicks had limited participation in practice this week because of a foot injury but will miss his second game.

Left tackle Artis Hicks, who suffered a right elbow injury last week, is active so we’ll see how much he can play.

For the Colts, center Jeff Saturday and tight end Dallas Clark are inactive. The others are guard Mike Pollak, wide receiver Roy Hall, tight end Jacob Tamme, defensive tackle Daniel Muir, defensive end Marcus Howard and defensive end Curtis Johnson.

It’s just as stupid to be blindly optimistic as it is to be blindly pessimistic, there is a middle ground called realistic. I criticize BC’s playcalling and free-agent pickups constantly. But idiots like SDH who drone on about how horrible Jared Allen is are not blindly optimistic or pessimistic, they’re just blind and moronic.

who do you start for a bonus player? Eli Manning @ St. Louis or Michael Turner @ Tampa Bay? Anybody?

RagnaroK says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:06 am

Anybody got predictions for the game today?

you can check out mine by clicking on my name and vote in the poll!

cheese - if you can play a QB as a bonus player you play Eli Manning. There is big potential for him to go off against St. Louis ala Donovan Mcnabb last week.

RagnaroK says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:08 am

and Michael Turner is gonna be a good back this year, But, he’s already had the best game he’ll get this season….

cheeseweasel says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:17 am

Prediction- it all comes down to T-Jack again. I give him a mulligan for last week due to lack of preseason work, same for Manning though. If Forte broke loose for 123 vs colts, Petersen could go wild for 3 hundo. Not likely but never know. Forte is not Petersen. Clark, Saturday, and DT Johnson(?) out are going to hurt.

RagnaroK says:

I got a question for all the fellow fantasy players out there…

I lost Marques Colston for awhile and have been trying to get another WR to replace him, I can’t believe the deals people have sent me back after I’ve offered them:

Derek Anderson
Joseph Addai
Joey Gallowary

or similar…

Am I wrong in thinking I should be able to get a pretty good WR - Anqaun Boldin is one I’ve gone after, Chad Johnson (who i don’t want) is another thats been offered to me - and a serviceable RB to cover the loss of Addai?

I think Addai should be worth more than any WR, sans maybe Moss and Owens, and Anderson is a upper echelon QB (I’ve also got Cutler).

anyway, I guess what I want to know is how would you value those 3 guys in a trade if someone offered you them for a #1 receiver and a #2 RB?

Ditka on ESPN making the point that Patriot have a system offense. ‘In this offense Matt Cassels really looks like Tom Brady’

Cris Carter, ‘Coach, you sleep in your garage tonite. In the morning tell me if you look like your car’

cheeseweasel says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:25 am

I guess I dont put too much value in Galloway. Especially this early in the season. In the next 2 weeks the “new guys” in FF will appear. My money waits on those guys and hold on to your draft picks.

RagnaroK says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:27 am

lost - i wish I would have seen that, I honestly laughed at the guys in my FFL that picked up Cassel, one is even starting him this week, i think the Pats are screwed.

Lost Viking says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:27 am

AD carries for 530 yards and we’re ahead by four points with 2 minutes remaining.

jay08 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:30 am

Rag this is a really hard game to pick. I thought after Week 1 we were double-cursed, Chicago caught the Clots at just the right time and there was no way Dungy would let them go 0-2. Which may turn out to be right.

But on the positive side, Indy is still nowhere near where they’re going to be in a few weeks, Saturday being out is a big plus, and their O-Line and interior D-Line is still a mess.

My predictions are that AD will go for over 150 yards, Indy won’t run at all and we’ll get at least 3-4 sacks, Eli will be much better, and SDH will never earn more than $50,000 a year in his life.

I’ll pick the Vikes but without much confidence.

RagnaroK says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:30 am

lost - i take it you read Bill Williamson article the other day?

RagnaroK says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:34 am

lost - I take it you read Bill Williamsons’ article a few days ago?

And in that trade Galloway is the best other receiver I have to throw in to cover the guy they lose, I’ve also added Colston there, but people don’t like that he’s injured, My thoughts are that a 1st Round RB and a top of the line QB are MORE than enough to get a #1 Receiver and a #2 Back. In any deal I make of this type I think I’m losing more, but what I’ve been offered back are deals that have been ridiculous that no fellow FF player in their right mind would accept, even if they’re desperate for WR help like me.

Is it just to early in the season to do a deal of this magnitude then?

jay08 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 11:41 am

Rag, how many times do you get to vote on your poll about who will pass for most yards?

Bones says:

Yet another great run by #28 that results in a field goal Great job T-Joke! What a loser…

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

3 passes competed, all to the running back. The KAO is running at full speed!

Lost Viking says:

September 14th, 2008 at 12:28 pm

What are we watching on Minnesota offesnse? Is thsi KAO or is it T-Jax typically slow start? Why does this QB need the first quarter to warm up every week?

Also, watch to see if he’s in three step or five step drop mode

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 12:30 pm

The frustrating thing is we’ve been given a short field 3 times now and have 3 points to show for it.

The last thing Tarvaris needs is a couple of guys who can’t catch.

cheeseweasel says:

September 14th, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Shaincoe is a double agent sent to kill every Vikings game. And hes good at it. no other explanation…

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Consider this:

1). We’ve held one of the greatest QBs ever to play the game to 18 yards.

2). We’ve been given a short field every time we’ve had the ball.

3). Our star running back is chewing their defense to pieces.

4). We have scored six points. The only ass this offense kicks is its own…

matty927 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 12:38 pm

couldn’t the vikes just use Mills and Kliensasser…i agree, Shainko needs to go…he’s proved what he can do…hands like TWill

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 12:39 pm

That’s why you don’t pay top $$$ to a guy who has never been higher than #2 on the depth chart and expect him to be your star TE.

Take A Risk says:

I wonder if we can put AP in as the teams best QB? Couldn’t be any worse than T-Jac

hey Joe, is your middle name “Job”

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:03 pm

If the stupid offensive coordinator would get a clue, the vikings O will rush for over 400 yards today. No more sweeps and reverses, just hard nose running.

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:06 pm

At some point the KAO needs to learn to pass the ball. Too much hard nose running = injury to AP at some point in the season.

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:06 pm

I know, I know. Lets take a wide receiver and make him run! That will trick them — since AP can’t even get outside.

Lol, do you know a Joe Job Blow?

Lost Viking says:

joe_blow says:

Bones says:

joe_blow says:

I’m glad in situations like this, we have proven ourselves against the pass.

Take A Risk says:

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:13 pm

Someone on the CBS pregame show mentioned how the Vikings are going about their offense backwards and that they should come out throwing to open up the run game. The problem is, I honestly don’t think the coaches have any confidence in the passing game at this point. And who can blame them?

Matty: Good call on taking Peterson #1 overall so far…

Lost Viking says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:14 pm

So we’ve had 5 third down and short and we’re zero and five

Is that play calling or execution. I guess if Coach calls it execution its not him

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:15 pm

tenthreeleader says:

Say, if I put aluminum foil on the rabbit ears may that will help?

Brutal.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:58 pm

so now TJ needs confidence…I thought it was experience….WR….a TE…a coach…TJ blows

Ole1 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 1:59 pm

TAR, I predict five more FG’s and one safety this game

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

I have another Tear.

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Wow…

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Oh. My. God.

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Absolutely un-frickin believable. To have this be an eight point game at this point borders on tragic.

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Look, Indy scored a TD. What a novelty. This game should be 31-7 not 15-7, thank you chilly for your kick-ass offense.

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Well, it’s not a touchdown and Gonzalez was down when he made the lateral. Two things to choose from here.

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Wayne better get credit or the touchdown!

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Knee down?

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

TD

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Sorry, Bones.

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

This is going to take a few more field goals.

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

I hope Dan now realizes why the crowd was booing.

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

Spot it at the one.

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

Well, better order up 3 more field goals.

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:06 pm

Still the wrong call. Gonzalez was down outside the ten. But for once replay goes at least a little bit the Vikings’ way.

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

NO. No touchdown

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

We can clearly see that it is not a TD, but that means the refs will call it a td.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Chilli is a littel free with that red flag

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Absolutely brutal. Between this and last week in Green Bay with Shiancoe there is no point in having replay.

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Am I surprise the refs made a bad call on the replay? Hell no.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

do we only get 2 Challenges per half?

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

That was a look out block, but Artis forgot to say “Look Out!”

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

Oh if we only had a QB HA HA HA

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

Yay, the game is over. Indy will win.

Ole1 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:17 pm

I think we all should laugh for thinking 5 field goals would be enough.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:17 pm

Im right here laughing HA HA HA TJ for president!!

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:18 pm

Goddamn T-Joke…

vikson says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:18 pm

The fumble is on Hicks, he didn’t even block. And the only reason you don;t like the replay call is cause you are a Vikings fan, objectivity says it was the right call, cause he was NOT clearly short, to over turn it has to be 100% irrefutable and it was not. Don;t be such a homer

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

You can see the ball didn’t break the plane, you anti-homer

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:20 pm

Vikson = correct. Objectivity rules.

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:20 pm

Honked the kick! Dag!

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:21 pm

Gatty: It wasn’t 100% clear that Addai did not break the plane. Don’t forget that referees don’t have access to the same replays that the TV crew does. If it hadn’t been called a TD and Dungy had challenged he would’ve lost.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:22 pm

Check Hicks stats after the game and see if he gets credit for that fumble…TJ blows

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

It was the wrong call by the line judge, but it was the right call on replay.

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Looked to me like the ball touched the plane on Addai’s run. If there hadn’t been a TD call on the field, we’d be good.

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

No play is ever 100% clear.

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

The rules on replay doomed the challenge from the start. No argument there. Childress had no option but to throw the flag and hope for a correct call that he didn’t get.

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:24 pm

Sounds like the home crowd has had enough of the Tarvaris Jackson Experiment…

RagnaroK says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:26 pm

I agree with the the announcers, everyone needs to quit booing t-jack.

I think playcalling is the biggest problem, and T-jack is never going to realize any potential someone might think he has if he can’t get some confidence from fans…

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:26 pm

Get used to a lot of field goal attempts this year…it will completely demoralize this team if they can’t find a way to score a few TD’s here and there….because the defense can only be so good for so long, one or two big plays and like the Colts today you can get right back in it, which is even more demoralizing when you have dominated 95% of the game. Need to find ways to score TD’s.

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:26 pm

I love the announcers, “the crowd doesn’t seem to remember he threw the perfect slant pass.” I guess all you have to do in a game is throw 12/20 and be really crappy on third down.

vikson says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:27 pm

T-Jax should have been able to make the sack on that play and then intercepted the pass

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:27 pm

True gatty, but if the replay system is to work (and in my opinion, it has up to this point) there needs to be clear and concise rules that are consistently followed. That irrefutable evidence is required to overturn the call on the field at least guarantees some degree of consistency…

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

The crowd isn’t booing, their pumping the boos in from speakers behind the benches…HAHAHA

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Main point being, though, that this shouldn’t be a close game at this point. Offensive execution should have ended this as a competitive game at halftime.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

the experiment is a failure and its time to pull the plug, even the most optomistic fan has to have doubts after this brilliant running by AD has been elimated by the ineffectiveness of the starting QB

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Pick!

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Interception, THAT is what this team needed!

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Come on T-Jack, I know you can do it!

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

I’m guessing…..DRAW play, just to get rid of some of the predictability.

matty927 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

set yourself up for disappointment…thats what I do when we hope that Tjax will come through…cuz he hasn’t in the past

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

T-Jack hands the ball off like no other. He truly is gifted.

vikson says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

would be fun to see AD try a half-back pass

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:33 pm

girl scouts could find a way to stop the run when you know your opponent is going to do it 9 of 10 plays.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:33 pm

can we get a FG out of this…lol

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:33 pm

Gad, AD gets through the hole fast!

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

matty927 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

hey at least you will be happy if you drafted Longwell in your league. should kick about 475 field this year……ah, nevermind. Perfect set-up for another let down though!

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

Yes, bring out the boos on the really poor play calling. Yep, take peterson out and run the ball on a 3&5. Get real whoever is calling the plays and throw the ball down field.

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

No pass attempts this possession. Chili getting jittery about his project?

Dang, wide left. This is way too close for how dominant the D has been.

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:36 pm

Because our coaching staff has no imagination or confidence in their quarterback. I can’t blame them for the latter.

Ole1 says:

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Wow, indy can throw the ball down field. Memo to chilly: you BLEW the game.

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Don’t worry, Indy will score, get the 2. T-Jack will have the game in his hand with … 6 minutes left!

Vikings South says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Argh. Here comes the 2-pt try

tenthreeleader says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Look at that. A quarterback who throws downfield and it”s in the end zone.

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Indy has broke the plane three times today. The vikings: zero. That is how you lose a game.

Ole1 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

thanks Joe, I feel much better now

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

vikson says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

Sorry all you T-Jax haters, this cannot be blamed on him, he doesn’t play defense and he doesn’t call the plays, I’m finally fed up with this coaching staff and with RAGNAR,,he did this to us!

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

am I watching the Twins? No, the Wolves, no, the Wild, no….this just is not like our Minnesota teams at all. I don’t understand this?
I’m guessing 2 runs that go for like 3 yards then an imcomplete pass that eats like 1 minute off the clock. Colts drive with ease and win with a FG. Would anyone bet against me?

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

If Chilly and his O Coordinator can’t produce a winning season with this team, they should never be allowed to hold those positions EVER again. This game is over with any sense of good play calling.

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

I cant help but think that if we would have scored TD’s instead all those FG’s we might win this game…0 - 2

south-a-state says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

So lets see, last year we were essentially #1 rush D, #1 rush O and last place pass D and pass O. That didn’t work out so well, so we went out and spent the GNP of several small countries on Allen, Williams, Berrian and Tapeh. . . and we look exactly like last year! No passing O, no pass D.

When it doesn’t matter who the players are or what year it is, at some point just maybe doesn’t it become the coaches’ fault?

matty927 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

no way the vikes pull this out…too many chances in the first half to put this game away…everyone is on their heels…well except for AP…but you get the idea…childress is looking in his Coach Klien(WaterBoy) playbook for inspiration…wow

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

A valid point, we may not like T-Jack, but the play calling has really neutered his ability (I think he had some?)

Take A Risk says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:45 pm

There is no way Berrian shouldn’t have kept running and caught that.

Come on, Dude!

highonfire says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

I dont like TJ or Chilli or the playcalling…so there…

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Can’t blame Longwell, if Gardy was the Vikes coach he would have pulled him to rest his leg. The Vikes are so predictable. I remember my 7th grade offense being more complex. Not only game over, year over. Period.

gatty790 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

This is THE worst play calling I have ever seen. You need a first down and you throw it deep for which your QB has never been good at. The coaches, not the players have lost this game. This is unbelievable.

vikson says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:47 pm

I am on the Buster band wagon, Steve Mariucci wants to coach again, there is too much talent on this team for this to be happening, I don’t believe in mid-saeson firings but it is clear Childress is not a coach, I’m pissed! And I still like T-Jax, a real coach might be able to get him there

joe_blow says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:49 pm

Tear

south-a-state says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

Take A Risk says:

September 14th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

Playcalling was unacceptable in this game and nobody besides the coaching staff lost this one.

Bones says:

Screw you Dierdorf. You can critique us all you want about why we boo this offense because you haven’t had to stomach it for the last 34 games…

zethlyn says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Agreed. It’s the Coach’s fault. Zigi should fire Childress immediately. When you settle for a field goal attempt every time because you don’t trust the QB you’ve picked, then it’s time for you to go.

Jackson is NOT the problem, the play calling is.. I’m not saying he is great but he did not cause this loss. You notice Vishanko or how ever the hell you spell his name didn’t get much attention after he dropped a TD pass, But Childress and his former student Bevell are not NFL caliber, I was Steve Mariucci or someone like that who is proven and has credibility.

All offensive players should be going out of their way to avoid the defense in the locker room. Amazing effort on one side of the ball, not so much on the other.

Why did we pay Berrian all that money and yet we throw to him 2-3 times a game? Good God our offensive coaching is pathetic!

matty927 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

whoa whoa whoa…you guys are gorgetting that both these losses have come against playoff teams from a year ago…and how many people expected us to be 2-0 or even 1-1?? any of you guys?? the vikes have lost two close games to playoff teams by a combined 8pts…thats got to say something for how far they’ve come in a year?? doesn’t it??

but chilli should be fired…this is sad…Tice was 9-7 w/ a garbage team…chilli is a failure

Dickie62 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

sorb I wish you were correct but I think that Zigi won’t do anything and as long as Chillie is here we are stuck with T-JOKE

Bevell is clearly out of his mind, some of those play calls were inexcusable.

south-a-state says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

correction, Bones - the RUN defense was dominant. Our defense still gives up several big pass plays per game, week in and week out, that every other decent team in the league would stop. This loss, while mainly chili’s, falls on the pass D almost as much as on the offensive passing, er, passing offense.

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

You can’t get mad at Berrian when the offense throws the ball like 10 times, 5 of them floated 15 yards past the receiver and 5 were bad rollout plays that college teams run when they don’t have a QB that can throw. I honestly, can not stand MN nice crap, Childress needs to get fired. If at my job I needed to complete 100 widgets a day and day after day, year after year only completed 40…I WOULD GET FIRED, and I’m not making millions of dollars to suck!

joe_blow says:

joe_blow says:

Just think, to make the playoffs, we can only loose 4 or 5 more games.

budgrantstears says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:21 pm

Every play–the whole offense is designed to protect the QB. We did not try to stretch the defense on one play. Not one legitimate play. Childress chose to lose this game.

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:22 pm

Matty927, it isn’t that they’ve lost 2 games against former playoff teams. It’s the fact that your coach keeps, year after year, praising his QB, and then his playcalling shows us that he doesn’t believe in him anymore than we do. I could coach us to 2 loses to start the year, but you can’t explain to people that we didn’t lose because of coaching, but in fact it was because we played superior teams.

jay08 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:22 pm

The only smart thing Chili has done as a coach was to convince Zygi that if he didn’t hire him before he went to interview with GB, GB was going to hire him.

Bones says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:29 pm

This loss rests solely on the shoulders of the coaching staff. You got a great effort out of your defense and your running back went for a buck-sixty yet you still lost the game. How many times have we heard about successful teams are:

a). good against the run
b). have a strong running game

The fact that we are so good in these two categories yet continue to lose shows just how pathetic our passing game is!

I agree that this loss is less about Jackson than it is about the play calling, but who hand-picked #7 to be his “piece of clay” quarterback? None other than Brad Childress. And I’m sorry, but the QB cupboard is completely bare at Winter Park. Gus is on his last legs and Booty did nothing to convince Viking fans that he can be the guy in the future. Yeah, he’s just a rookie but remember how great T-Joke looked in his rookie preseason? Booty showed NOTHING in his!

We’ve got big problems here guys. And don’t bother reminding me that the season is only two games old, I already know that. In both those games the opponent handed us the game on a silver platter and we completely f’d it away.

Apparently we didn’t learn from overpaying Stonehands Shiancoe last offseason because we did it again this year with Bernard Berrian.

Lost Viking says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

I turned the channel to Curse of the Viking Grave and it got real interesting. About how this old warrior it trapped and outnumbered. And he loses his shield and then its hopeless. He’s completely outnumbered but decides to try to fight his way out of a cave against all odds.

And then I guess I must have nodded off there. So, we were up 15-0 and completely dominating.

How much did we win by?

matty 927 you are wrong and don’t know what you’re talking about. we WERE supposed to be a playoff team as well this year and go deep into the playoffs. we should stack up against any team in the NFC with our roster. and we should MOST CERTAINLY be 1-1 right now if not 2-0. we have allen, peterson, the williams boys, greenway, so much more. unfortunately we have jackson and childress as well.

jay08 says:

How many times did we just need one 1st down to at worst send the game to OT? You gotta love that 3rd and short or whatever where Chili calls for a long TD pass.

ebster2112 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:36 pm

As much as much of you on here have like to ping on Jackson during the off- and pre-season, the truth is this: he has done what’s been asked of him. Whatever happened to this mindset Coach Childress (from your 1st press conference as head coach): “We will be like Vikings. We’re going go ashore, burn the boats and never look back. We are never looking back. Today we go ashore.” I for one am tired of the lame and conservative play-callng–if we’re going to go down, let’s at least go down fighting, geesh!!! It’s fast approaching time for the “Childress / Bevell / Shiancoe” experiemnts to end…

binksysue says:

bink, you’re a moron…this is the nfl and good teams find ways to win close games…obviously the vikes are not as good as everyone thought. hopefully these early losses will help turn into late season wins. coaching is suppose to be the difference in close games…lets take a look shall we:
McCarthy 5-0 against Childress
Tony Dungy superbowl Champion
Brad Childress: Terrible Vikes 0-2

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:39 pm

The hardest part of being a MN sports fan is the MN nice here. We do things, or don’t do them just because it wouldn’t be nice. Don’t hurt Childress’ feelings. I guarantee you that another week will pass with no talk of firing Childress, and how he is a good coach and blah blah blah. Next week we’ll be in the game on the leg of 4 or 5 more field goals just to play another 4th quarter trying not to lose instead of playing to win, and then lose again as devastatingly to the teams moral as possible. How do I know? Is there any other way?

nj2032 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:45 pm

Get rid of Childress hands down…he is a hypocrite! He has hyped up Jackson for years now as his man, but if he’s your man why do you game after game call plays like your scared of the outcome of letting him throw the ball? If he’s the man then let him throw it and if nothing else make the defense second guess a draw play for the next 3 plays.

gr8scot says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

Hopefully after spending all that money Zygi will get as disappointed as I am and fire Chili. It’s sad when Chili’s major accomplishment as a coach is to make Tice look like a genius. At least they didn’t trade away their #1 pick. It’s looking like a good one. Not mentioned in above comments is how Cedrick gets burned so often. You’d think eventually they’d learn that a CB with Safety speed is not going to cut it.

jay08 says:

Hey, is that a muledeer over there, no seriously, I’m hungry, could go for some hard boiled eggs right now. What’s that? Where the $&%@ am I? Can someone walk me home, mommie! Reporter: Well, there you have it, that made as much sense as his playcalling since taking over as coach.

gatty790 says:

Didn’t we all know that the 15 points - all on FG’s - were not nearly enough for Manning. We needed TD’s and all we do is run the same offense (which is VERY offensive).
I am so sick of this… this coaching staff will make any new “talent” look bad.
Childress - YOU SUCK!
Zygi, PLEASE do us all a favor…FIRE THIS EMBASOL to preserve this supposed talent…he is wasting it!!!

jay08 says:

CenTex … it’s “imbecile”. But I agree with your sentiment. Just trying to help. :D

matty927 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:56 pm

the good news is that there are going to be a couple good teams that are 0-2 after this week and somehow the vikes are going to have to find a way to get back to 500 before week 6…3-3 or 4-4…the vikes just have to learn how to win ball games period…doesn’t matter who the coach is…who the QB is. Jackson could audible out of bad plays if he thought they were bad…he could audible out of a run if he sees something in the D that would get them downfield. this team could still make the playoffs, but this ship ;) has to be turned around soon!

jay08 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 3:57 pm

I know everyone will get mad at this comment, but if nothing changes, I seriously hope that Peterson signs with a good team when his contract is up. It was so tiring watching Garnett for so many years suck it up with horrible front office moves and bad coaching. I would rather him have a chance at being the best back in NFL history with another team, than a mediocre one here. He would seriously average 200+ rushing yards for a team like the Cowboys that can throw.

I wish he’d burst into tears in his press conference, I wish he’d literally lie on his stomach crying and pounding the floor with his stupid little fists. It would be a change at least.

CenTexVike says:

Did you watch the same game I did? Jackson made two poor throws total. You do know that he cannot catch the football for that fumblefingered overpaid Skankho and a tripping over his own feet Bernard Berrian don’t you? Nor overcome an idiot offensive coordinator and head coach who make no pretense of even trying to get a first down on a crucial third and five in Colts territory with the game on the line.

expodis says:

September 14th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

Cant really put the blame on TJack in this one. He missed a couple of passes but 14 for 24 isnt horrible. The two passes to Berrian and Wade should have been Pass Interference but oh well. AP kept them marching down the field. Good job by the run D, as usual, and not so good by the pass D, as usual. But in this game, the big difference was the playcalling. How can you give Manning that much time and that kind of field position. We figured TJack would roll out on that last 3rd down. The announcers figured it too. So anything think that Dungy wasnt expecting that? Really gave TJack nothing to do except that dump off. The front 4 did a great job applying pressure but the secondary couldnt keep the tight coverage. But its hard to win a game relying on FGs. Got to punch it into the end zone. Very disapointing and now we get to face a dangerous Panthers team with an elite receiver coming back. Just a damn shame

FIRE CHILDRESS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill Harrison says:

September 14th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

One thing about the pass rush. Allen and Edwards are doing a great job getting the pressure on from the outside but there’s no push from either Williams up front and Manning was simply stepping up to throw it. Kevin Williams has a reputation for being out of shape early in the season and he looks it. Other than the one long throw which looked to me like a rookie mistake by Tyrell Johnson not getting over to cover deep, the pass d played adequately.

Hard to belive almost 400 posts here, and only one comment about cedric griffin. This second year player for Indy, Gonzalez, had a career day against Griffin, who is the weakest link in our pass defense.
FIRE GRIFFIN NOW!

Bones says:

According to the die-hard Homers, Griffin is a future Pro-Bowler. Then again, they said that about McCauley, who by the way has been inactive for both games. The Homers really know their football!

Jackson was the cause of the loss, period, end of story!

Childress had a great game plan, asexampled by the plays that freed AP and the last drive before half, great job by Childress.

But Jackson was so inconsistant that we died in the red zone. He threw behind his recievers, and missed recievers horribly on some plays.

In the end Childress, if that was his pick, should be blamed.

Either way, 8-8 at best, dump the piece of sh*t Tavaris Jackson, and re-start next year.

Tavaris Jackson should be hung in effegy and run out of town on a rail, he’s a LOOOSER.

let’s see … what great off season signings … a DB who has yet to play .. a WR who did not catch a pass today and has 3 total in 2 games, besides being the 4th highest paid WR in football .. and the BEST DE in football..EVER..was all over the field today with 1 tackle and an assist..who happened to do nothing on MONDAY night .. and got his sack today when he was lined up against the 3rd string TE for the Colts.. a team who offensive line is ravaged by injuries and even lost their starting left OT .. and he is the highest paid DL in all of football .. then mix in a lot of Chili and a horrible QB who can only throw the little dinks and dunks and you have a real bad mix for a football team

Bill Harrison says:

September 14th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Look Bones, the Colts did nothing offensively for three qtrs and change or did you watch the damn game?

The Vikings weren’t blitzing on the long pass where Griffin was beaten and Tyrell Johnson was slow coming over the top. That’s on Johnson in a cover 2 scheme. Until the Vikings are able to generate a consistent push from the tackles to keep the qb from stepping up the deep slants are always going to be open in this style coverage and with linebackers who aren’t anywhere close to Tampa’s in their drops and abilities to react.

SO frustrating to be a Vikings fan. How can you NOT boo this team’s offensive production.

Bill Harrison says:

I’ve definitely had enough of Childress and Bevell. On that I think we can all agree. I think Wilf would have fired him last year without the streak before the end. Hopefully he does this year. He was completely outcoached by Joe Gibbs when it counted last year and again today by Dungy and Tom Moore with a beat up Colts team.

Dickie62 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

sdh13 6:22 post you are correct about the signings. However the HC should have a game plan that calls for more than just run and Dink & Dunk, but when you have retard for QB that make anything but dink & dunk and still misses most of them. The D is on the field too long to keep up the pressure they did in the first 2.5 qrtrs. Chillie needs to go and T-Joke can go with him!!!!!!!!!!!

sdh13 says:

September 14th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

his game plan is such because he has no faith in his little qb project .. it is quite obvious .. and we also saw why he kept laffy taffy on the roster .. 2 catches for -2 yards .. why would you even throw to this guy when you have someone named AP on your team

bengraved says:

September 14th, 2008 at 6:50 pm

Just, a fan, but think a shutdown corner, signing in the offseason, like, Asante Samuel, who was available, for a whole lot less then what we paid Jared Allen would have helped out our total pass defense, more than what J. Allen a defensive end, has helped us.

Sorry to dirvert from the TJ-Chili love fest, but I either have to find another team or spend all fall doing yard work.

Bones says:

Bill Harrison says:

Heh. Maybe we shouldn’t have given up on J.T. O’Sullivan:

San Francisco (1-1) overcame eight sacks of J.T. O’Sullivan to beat the Seahawks for just the third time in 11 games, in the first overtime game of the 19-game series between the two teams.

O’Sullivan was 20-for-31 for 321 yards and one touchdown in the second start of his six-year career. Seattle’s Patrick Kerney and rookie top pick Lawrence Jackson sacked him two times each, but the journeyman passer kept coming back.

Bill Harrison says:

Pro bowl cb’s with today’s rules are made by the four guys up front. The so-called “shutdown” corner is a modern NFL myth and has been for some time (probably since Deion’s prime). Champ Bailey’s the best going now and even he gets beat deep from time to time. Tyree beat Samuels for a td in the Super Bowl.

The defense didn’t lose this game anymore than they lost the Puker game. When you get two picks off Manning and zero points and cannot convert even one redzone possession for a t.d. you’re looking at where the blame lies. And Visanthe Skanho should be cut tomorrow for dropping a perfectly thrown ball in the endzone that wins this game long before the last-quarter comeback by the Colts.

MDVikes says:

September 14th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

Feeling the pain here in MD, wasted another 3 hrs. Yup, Childress is the main problem, major egomaniac with no accomplishments, thinks he is a scientist with his own lab. I doubt Zygi will fire him…but he can pressure him to fire or “bench” Bevell (sorry) and take over the offense himself like the other egomaniac, Billick late of Baltimore. All of us hard workers know that we’re accountable for the things we manage directly. Let’s see what the “genius” can do when he manages the offense directly. I don’t think T-Jack is NFL-caliber, but I’d rather condemn him for failing to run an offense that throws the ball downfield. Let the chips fall where they may, we’re not winning with this offense, which is more antiquated than the old Nebraska power-I. I feel bad for our D today…

Does anybody else think this is all a part of Wilf’s master plan to act as though he is trying to build a winning team ? He is letting Childress and Jackson run the team into the ground intentionally so there is no way in hell they can get a stadium. Then he can move the team to LA and say “I did everything I could to put a winning football team in Minnesota, but they just didn’t want us there”. I mean it has to be obvious that he hired the wrong guy who then traded-up to choose the wrong guy in the draft who now is becoming very adept at throwing at peoples feet. If he really wanted a stadium here he would get rid of the moron he put in charge and that would take care of the QB situation. There isn’t another football coach in America that would allow this incompetent buffoon to run the team. “I have one of the 32 best football teams in the world, so I’m gonna make the 800 millionth best QB in the world my starter”. Brilliant!

That wasn’t a cover 2 defense , moron. That is what we call “cover 3″ where each man who is playing deep is responsible for one-third of the field deep. You can tell pretty easily when you see one safety go deep, as Johnson did, and one come up to play short like Sharper did. That was all Griffin on that play. Johnson could have helped out, but it was most certainly not his job in that scheme. I guess we should expect those types of nuggets from the guy here defending Jackson because he is just so damn good.

I thought I would never write/think this but I think I want them to lose now. If we pull off a couple games is because of AP (like last year), Ziggy can not be this blind. I disagree with the approach that if we change HCoach in the middle of the season things go to hell, do we truly beleive we are going somewhere? Really… Get Leslie the head job and kick this clown out of the team. I now it is a radical move but haven’t we seen enough? Leslie will have a hard time the first few games but eventually he can develop his own thing, prepare for his own draft and we can move on. I just can’t take it anymore, gee, if I see Childress on the street I would pound the hell out of him, well, maybe not. But I do not blame him for his limitations (Hello Ziggy!!!!, hiring the fist guy that filled your ear with BS) but of his arrogance and inability to admit mistakes (ie: the joke of Shiancoe, his call play, he is just not a head coach). Beleive me, AP will win some game for us and this clown will thump his chest as if he won them, and stupid Ziggy will beleive this. We are so close yet so far. So sad, so so sad.

The D WILL be fine?! It’s better than fine right now. I can only imagine how demoralizing it is for them to play the way they did today and lose because your QB is incapable of leading the team to the end-zone. Do you guys remember 2 years ago when we had what was the best run defense ever through the 1st 15 games and then in the final game got gashed for like 180 yards by the Rams because the defense obviously could not have cared any less? If not, don’t worry. We are gonna get to see it again, just a whole hell of a lot sooner if Jackson is the QB much longer. We have Carolina coming in here. The same Carolina team that went 2-0 without Steve Smith. The thing is, Smith is gonna be back this week! Yes! I cannot wait. It is just so depressing to buy into all of the hype only to have your heart broken by this team year after year.

Sage Rosenfels of Houston.

It doesn’t matter. Gus can definitely throw a more accurate downfield pass than T-Jax. But Childress’ ego is too big to admit colossal mistakes. You think they’d actually let Gus, Rosenfels, Garcia throw the ball?

I saw an offense like this once in my life. Chicago, late 70’s, early 80’s, pre-McMahon. Payton right, Payton left, incomplete on third down, punt due to incompetent QB, no creativity on offense. Hall of Famer’s talent wasted until the end of his career. Deja vu for me now, it’s just the Vikes

See Seifert’s blog on ESPN today, Bevell complains that we aren’t throwing the ball well. uh, dude, aren’t you the o-coordinator?

Demote Bevell and make Coach Egomaniac run his precious offense himself. Then maybe, just maybe Zygi will see that Chili is all hot air, no results. No wonder TO couldn’t stand him!
