Vikings issue injury report

September 3rd, 2008 – 4:35 PM by Judd Zulgad

The Vikings did not practice today but still had to issue their first injury report for Monday night’s game at Green Bay. The four players on the report were quarterback Tarvaris Jackson (knee); running back Maurice Hicks (foot); wide receiver Robert Ferguson (ankle); and safety Madieu Williams (neck).

Jackson, who missed the final two preseason games after suffering a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, has said he definitely will play Monday. Hicks did not practice Tuesday and coach Brad Childress declined to say why at the time. You have to wonder if a foot problem will keep Hicks from returning kicks against the Packers. That job most likely will go to receiver Aundrae Allison if Hicks isn’t available.

Ferguson was hurt in the third preseason game. Media was allowed to watch through a portion of the individual drills in Tuesday’s practice and at that time Ferguson was on the field.

Williams, meanwhile, is expected to miss the first three games of the season because of his neck injury. He will be replaced by rookie Tyrell Johnson.

Remember, the expected status for players (out, doubtful, questionable, probable) will not be listed until the final injury report.

The Packers also did not practice Tuesday. Here is Green Bay’s injury report: S Atari Bigby (ankle); T Chad Clifton (knees/chest); DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee); RB Ryan Grant (hamstring); LB A.J. Hawk (chest); WR James Jones (knee); S Charlie Peprah (hamstring); G Josh Sitton (knee); DE Jeremy Thompson (groin); C Scott Wells (back); LB Tracy White (ankle).

My groin got hurt once - I was told to stop pulling it…

It’s possible T-Jax doesn’t even start the game. If he was hurt worse than they’re saying no-one would find out till the last minute.

Are you saying that the Vikings have such a huge lead that Jackson is pulled out of the game so Frerotte can perform mop up duties?

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 5:17 pm

vikingsuperfan, if TJ finishes the game you owe everyone on AV $10.

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 5:18 pm

Even Judd and Chip.

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 5:19 pm

And if they’re not allowed to take it their share gets divided up between the rest of us.

I can’t wait until the season starts so this blog can get interesting.

What’s gonna be interesting is gonna be what the moaning pessimists say if the Vikes win and TJ plays well.

jay08 says:

I will admit that Bill Gates might pick up the offense faster than TJ but he doesn’t have TJ’s natural athletic ability.

I would hate to see Bones vs Hoppy in a gum chewing contest

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 7:54 pm

Wow, ESPN’s Week 1 rankings has TJ ranked 29th, ahead of only Brody Croyle, Kyle Orton and Joe Flacco. And they have Aron Rodgers ranked 18. I now officially hate ESPN.

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 7:57 pm

But they do have the Vikes D ranked 3rd and the Fockers D ranked 5th. But I still hate them.

matty927 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:03 pm

i’m a little surprised that Sullivan is ranked higher than Jackson…that should be embarrasing to him…and what about Russell? what in the world has he done to be rated higher than Jackson…
how come Peter King has Jackson rated higher than all these so called experts on ESPN…I’ve been reading stuff f/ King since I could page through an SI magazine…ESPN is crap!! I’m outraged…this whole ranking thing is ridonkulous

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:05 pm

And how crazy is this, they have Visthane Shiancoe ranked 9th at TE.

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Matty, yeah, how does JT Sullivan get ranked higher than TJ?

matty927 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:11 pm

and Matt Ryan WTF?? the Falcons are going to be TERRIBLE this year

Ole1 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:13 pm

I blame retsuB semyhR for T-Hacks low QB ranking

matty927 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Jay08…Shanko was the 29th TE…

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:15 pm

Matty, made you look!

matty927 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:17 pm

so now I read a little more on ESPN and find out that this is all based on their week 1 opponents respectively…and if TJack and beat the Packers man coverage he’ll be fine, but if the packers can cover and not give our guys room to get open Tjack could have a tough night…not to mention not having McKinnie on his blind side

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Made you look though.

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:24 pm

But I promise I won’t do any more made you looks.

matty927 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm

yep…go w/ that jay

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:45 pm

But back to ESPN and this is for reals they’ve got Brian Westbrook ahead of AP.

matty927 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:49 pm

thats the difference in the first week opponent

jay08 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm

Why? Just because of who they play?

matty927 says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:59 pm

yeah…philly plays the vaunted run defense of the rams…the vikes play the fairly stout Packers D…thats my guess

Bones says:

September 4th, 2008 at 9:13 am

Vikings 63, Packers 10. We will get jobbed by the officials a bunch of times or else we would get the shutout.

We have the best pass rush. We have the best linebackers. Our secondary is arguably the best in NFL history. Griffin & McCauley are awesome and were both steals in their respective drafts. Both would’ve been first-rounders if only (insert typical Homer excuse).

Aaron Rodgers is a terrible quarterback and is terrified of facing Jared Allen. T-Jax is at 100% and is 13-14 times better than Rodgers.

The Packers defensive backs will be diving out of the way of Adrian Peterson because they are scared to tackle him.

The Packers are a horrible team despite the fact they went 13-3 and won the NFC North and basically lost nobody except Favre. As the Homers tell us, #4 wasn’t really that good anyways, certainly not as good as T-Jack.

KingKC uhda TC says:

September 4th, 2008 at 9:14 am

Bones is scared to play me in Madden…..
