Jackson not expected to play

August 22nd, 2008 – 6:21 PM by Judd Zulgad

This should come as no surprise but don’t expect quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to play in Saturday night’s preseason game against Pittsburgh. Jackson sprained his right medial collateral ligament against Baltimore in the first quarter last Saturday. He took part in individual drills in practice this week but did not take part in 11-on-11 drills. Jackson could be out until the regular-season opener Sept. 8 at Green Bay.

Meanwhile, the Vikings, like the rest of NFL teams hosting games this weekend, will observe a moment of silence in memory longtime NFL union head Gene Upshaw before Saturday night’s preseason game against Pittsburgh. Upshaw, 63, died Wednesday night of pancreatic cancer.
