Childress: Jackson’s knee bruised

August 16th, 2008 – 7:21 PM by Judd Zulgad

BALTIMORE — Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is done for the night after injuring his right knee on Minnesota’s second drive of the game.

Jackson had a brace-like sleeve on his knee as he left the field after the first half. He was definitely limping. Coach Brad Childress told KSTP at halftime: “He’s fine. He’s got a bump on the knee. We’re keeping him in at half to get some ice on it. He’s got a contusion.”

Jackson was injured on a second-and-10 play from the Vikings 48 when he scrambled for a 9-yard gain and was hit by Ravens linebacker Antwan Barnes and then safety Dawan Landry at the end of the run. Jackson was limping as he got up but stayed in the game.

Adrian Peterson gained 2 yards on third-and-1. On the next play, Jackson threw a 12-yard pass to Sidney Rice. The quarterback then hobbled toward the Vikings bench before laying down on the field. He was eventually helped to the bench area and examined by Vikings head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman and team doctor Joel Boyd.

Jackson, who missed three games last season because of injury, was replaced by Gus Frerotte.

I’m here in DC and the tape of the play on MASN seemed to indicate a hyperextension or maybe bruise. I’d be surprised if it were worse than that. And btw, Sidney Rice got both feet inbounds on that catch in the endzone but Chili didn’t appeal.

Gus looks real good. Just tossed a td to Ferguson.

Not because of Tjack but this team looks very poised to have a very injury proned season.

I hear chilly took it easy on the team in camp this year.

are they stretching properly or in the right shape

Besides LB on D every position has a starter missing

berrian banged up Rice is not 100%

If Tjack is done for the year. I know it won’t happen but maybe we should bring daunte in to back up Gus

shaping up to be a 6-10 type of season.

Surely if that is how we finish for jeff’s sakes that should be enough to send bevell and chilly packing

they could make Frazier HC then promote Dunbap or pagic to D-CO and bring someone in to run the offence like Brian Billick. Maybe we could get him a real QB via the draft or FA.

oh ya p.s Trying to run over ray lewis in a meaningless game WTF that is worst then the jump pass ints. He could have gone out of bounds

T-jack hurt again!!!!!!!!!! even if he is only out for the pre-season the guy until proven otherwise is injury prone

HOPPY says:

August 16th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Buster, you better pay attention to the 4th quarter. That’s when your guys come in. You know the guys that might make the team for 2 years and then end up in Canada.

Monctonvike says:

I live in New Brunswick so obviously there is no home team here. So when people ask who my favorite team is. I say Vikings of course and I dunno what is worse when they say ” that Adrian Peterson is awsome, but who is there QB again? or they just Laugh and say the words ” Man Tarvaris Jackson suuucks! when are they gonna get a real QB” ……and these are bills,dolphines,giants,puker,rams,49ners,chiefs,pats,giant,steeler,broncos fans. I have met two Vikings fans in person in my life. No word of a lie I swear to Jeff

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Talk about an overreaction. Take it easy Monc. Christ, it’s the second preseason game and you’re getting the vapors like some old woman. If Jackson had a serious knee injury he wouldn’t be standing around on the sidelines. I don’t think they even took him into the lockerroom.

With Olympics and Seahawgs we’re shut out here tonight.

Brooks Bollinger started slow in pre season last year. Which is why Coach Chili went out and spent the 6th rounder on Howcome. Then BB turns out to be a tremendous relief pitcher. The Twin should be so lucky.

Don’t sell BB short. In fact don’t mention short and BB in same sentence.

The4Norsemen says:

you guys are pathetic and you call yourselves vikings fans. why can’t you be positive on TJ? He played very good against Seattle and he did a great job tonight until he got hurt. in 2 quarters he is 15 of 22, almost 200 yds, and 2 TDs. looks more mature and poised (the same can’t be said for you TJ bashers). plus his QB rating is near perfect. what the hell is wrong with you??? oh and ummm he was 8-4 as a starter last year, neither Favre, Marino or Montana had a winning record in their first two years.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (AP) — Officers have arrested about 20 pro-sovereignty activists after the second takeover this year of the grounds of a Honolulu palace.

State law officers climbed a fence and made the arrests Friday at the historic Iolani Palace.

About a dozen men had locked the palace gates Friday evening and posted signs saying: “Property of the Kingdom of Hawaiian Trust.”

Hawaiian activists have long used the palace as a location for protests against U.S. occupation of the islands. A different group occupied the palace grounds in April.

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Jackson looked very, very good before bruising his knee. Good checkdowns and good accuracy. Much improved over last year.

What concerns me more is the first team defense’s softness against the run. Kevin Williams, typical for him, doesn’t look to be in the best of shape. On one early run he got pushed a good four yards off the ball. Greenway too got out of position on several runs although to be fair on one I’m sure he was expecting inside help but Sharper was sneaking up to the line. Tyrrell Johnson has generally looked good for a rookie. Nice job closing on Ray Rice with a nice angle in the first qtr. to prevent a Ravens td.

HOPPY says:

August 16th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

Even our old Buddy Hank “the tank” Baskett could average 3.92 yards/reception and have the same yards as Buster.

The4Norsemen says:

I think the D will be ok, we are only showing 15-20% of our packages and schemes. They were much better in the 2nd and 3rd qtr. Allen’s two sacks flustered the Raven’s offense and they punted both times after his sacks.

JACKSON OUT WITH KNEE INJURY
Posted by Mike Florio on August 16, 2008, 8:43 p.m.
As some of you might have noticed in the comments to an earlier post, Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson left the team’s preseason game against the Ravens with a knee injury.

Jackson was hit by multiple Ravens, including Ray Lewis, while scrambling with the ball.

The third-year quarterback was replaced by Gus Frerotte, who threw a touchdown pass on his first full drive.

And the ultimate irony would be, if Jackson’s knee injury is serious, a return to Minnesota by former starter Daunte Culpepper.

We wouldn’t bet on it. Coach Brad Childress would be more likely to bring back Fran Tarkenton before re-signing Culpepper.

The4Norsemen says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:02 pm

you are probably right Monc on Tark over Pepper

Lost Viking says:

Bill Harrison says:

One other thing that should not go unremarked upon about TJ’s performance tonight is that he took the Vikings on long drives entirely on his back and that of the receivers as the running game was doing very little against the Ravens first team D. That says a lot. Sidney Rice has made tremendous strides in the offseason with a couple of toe drag catches that would do either Moss or C. Carter proud.

The4Norsemen says:

you’re exactly right Bill!!!

Monctonvike says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

aaron rodgers so far this preseaon has been sacked 4 times?

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

Is that a sieve or an offensive line poor Booty’s playing behind?

The4Norsemen says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

what the hell? is BB paying the current O-Line off to get Booty sacked 2 times in a row??

Ole1 says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Monc, Rodgers is getting hit hard tonight. The packer defense looks weak against a below average QB (O’Sullivan)

Monctonvike says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

LOL Jamie Dukes said they should but a brace on Tjax’s head instead of his knee

Bones says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Sumrall is on a mission tonight.

The4Norsemen says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

so is Grigsby!! 2 sacks and a FF

Lost Viking says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

WisVike, that’s pretty low calling Buster an irrelevant banker…

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Grigsby’s had a great camp. Jaymar Johnson might also be a very good return man in the MeMo mode.

The4Norsemen says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Dammit another frickin injury… this time Artis Hicks !#@$

Monctonvike says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Lost if u have NFLN they are playing the vikes game in about an 10 min or …thats what the guide says

Ole1 says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Bones, check your mail

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

Norse, my guess is we won’t see TJ at all next week. It’ll be Gus, BB and Booty and probably Booty playing with something other than an O line full of guys who’ll be working as titty bar bouncers three weeks hence.

The4Norsemen says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:27 pm

LOL Bill you are right there!! I would like to see how Booty does behind the 1st or second team

The4Norsemen says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Man Erin Henderson is having another really good game! 5 tackles and 1 assist so far…check that 6 tackles… if the front office is smart they will keep this kid!

Monctonvike says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

I can’t believe vishacoe caught one

Lost Viking says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Can’t get NFL N here. So I asked barman if they had it.

Got the blank stare back. OK, nevermind.

The4Norsemen says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

A good night for a preseason win, but a bad night for injuries…hope they all aren’t serious….Good night all..until next game night…

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Skankho actually caught a couple of good balls and miracle of miracles didn’t fumble them after the catch.

As I said earlier I think Chili’s gonna have to think about keeping this Hauschka kid for his k.o. depth alone. Short k.o.’s by Longwell last year hurt us bad in a couple of games.

Bones says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Can’t afford to carry two kickers. You’ve gotta fill that roster with WRs, CBs, LBs, etc.

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

On a Fave-ra note I watched his two series before the Vikes game started and he looked good — 5-of-6 for 48 yards and a td.

Bill Harrison says:

August 16th, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Bones, I know that but at minimum Hauschka’s worth keeping on the practice squad. He was very good last year kicking at NC State after he used up his eligibility at Middlebury.

Cris80 says:

August 16th, 2008 at 10:33 pm

Jackson looked pretty good in there, and I just hope he’s not hurt too bad.

1st team D is apparantly alergic to Vanilla. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come.

Ed Sharockman says:

August 16th, 2008 at 10:52 pm

Watching a replay of the game on NFL Network and it’s a Ravens production. Man, it makes the KSTP game look like High School kids are in charge. Are KSTP’s cameras located on the light poles at the top of the stadium? And how about the low quality picture? Nice to see the game from a perspective closer than the nose-bleed section.

T-Jack and Gus looked good. 1st team O-Line looked good too. Fun game to watch… what you could see of it, that is.

vikson says:

August 16th, 2008 at 11:19 pm

so montovike you are claiming to be a more knowledgeable expert on football the Viking hiarchy,,,,funny how it never occurs to you that if you knew as much as you think you do, some team would be calling you….DUH

BillyBob says:

August 17th, 2008 at 9:20 am

Buster….Retsub…..what the hell ever your name is….why not give TJack a break…leave him alone…better yet, leave us all alone with your negative comments….I have been reading this blog for over a year now, and this is my first response….in that entire year, I cannot remember one positive comment coming from you…..what a way to go through life……

Good Luck to TJack and the rest of the Vikes….I have been a fan of yours since the 60’s, and am hoping for a return to the glory years and hopefully a Super Bowl!!!!
