Report: McKinnie likely to get four games

August 14th, 2008 – 3:38 PM by Judd Zulgad

MANKATO — Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie had little reaction this afternoon to a report by Sirius NFL Radio that he is likely to be suspended for four games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

“I don’t know about that,” McKinnie said as he walked off the practice field. McKinnie is subject to possible disciplinary action by the NFL as a repeat offender of the league’s conduct policy. He met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in early June.

Although we don’t get Sirius NFL Radio here in Mankato, a reader put a comment on an earlier Access Vikings blog about the report. We checked with a spokesman from Sirius and he confirmed the station has been reporting the McKinnie information on its updates.

McKinnie’s latest off-the-field incident occured in February when he got into a brawl outside a Miami nightclub. He faces four charges from that incident, including one felony. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 24 in Miami-Dade County Court.

A Vikings official said the team can’t comment on the matter and that any statement would have to come from the NFL. We’re awaiting a return e-mail on the matter from the league.

UPDATE: An NFL spokesman responded to our e-mail saying the report by Sirius is speculation and that the league has made no announcements.

What an idiot. Average player that held out his rookie year, can’t stay out of trouble, and is costing us a ton of money on top of all that.

Why would Sirius have the info before anyone else? No one esle is reporting this. Not even NFL.com

Go figure…the media reports hear say and others follow suit….Now that it’s on the blog, it’ll be deemed official news by KSTP TV.

I’m surprisingly hurt by that. Much of my personal identity and sense of self worth is wrapped up in the approval of bloggers such as yourself.

After I finish weeping in a fetal position, I shall try to please you and gain your approval.

In any case, Tombstone was a great show.

Vikings’ offensive line takes hit, loses Bryant McKinnie suspended four games says:

[…] According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Minnesota Vikings’ offensive tackle Bryant “Mount” McKinnie will be suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. “I don’t know about that,” McKinnie said as he walked off the practice field. I was the one who posted the news on the McKinnie suspension earlier today. I heard the story twice this morning on Sirius NFL. Once on the “2 minute drill” and again on the “The Sirius Blitz.” It wasn’t like it was just a comment they made in passing. It was a news update.

[…] And again - it’s a report, it’s not yet fact. Could anyone on our roster currently step in and perform as well as McKinnie? If there is, then adios. His performance from day one hasn’t absolutely astonished me.

Why is it taking so long for the NFL to make a decision? They stepped in on Favre immediately, they’ve had this since June.

Chase Johnson didn’t look too good against the S.Hawks. Radovich looked better, but with the injury he’s probably headed for the practice squad. Roll right TJ, roll right, roll right faster TJ, oh darn

Ca_Viking says:

August 14th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

As a Viking fan, thank you NFL! That could have been 16 games and hurt us.

As a man, a father, and a human . . . McKinnie should be ashamed, apologize, and be banned for a year. Then he’ll get the message.

What was McKinnie thinking? Love Boat, now hitting a man which could have killed him.

But if an all-star linebacker for the Ravens can help kill a man, lie about it, get defended by other team members, then get voted Super Bowl MVP. . .

kennyrogers says:

Enough bad publicity for Minnesota for one season. Now let’s move on. Replay of Seattle game on FSN right now, if anyone’s interested.

…yes, and the daily Favre update is also on the Strib’s Vike link if anyone’s interested.

So…the AV says that there is a “report” from a radio station that BMac is “likely” to get a four game suspension, and the station has “confirmed” that they are indeed “reporting” that “likely” 4-game suspension. The league says that the “report” is “specualtion.”

My question: Is there any “news” here?

B. Grant says:

August 15th, 2008 at 8:03 am

Yeah, get serious, Sirius. Free radio seems to be more reliable than pay radio.

All that said, 4 games probably will wind up being the penalty, since someone must have somehow leaked something based on something from someone at some time somewhere.

kennyrogers says:

August 15th, 2008 at 8:07 am

So if the four game suspension is merely “speculation”, it could be more?
Like maybe suspended for all 16 games?
I don’t like the fact that they are taking so long making a decision on this. Pacman Jones is fully reinstated, in training camp, and on the Cowboy’s roster. Make a decision, Roger. I would rather give up a worthless draft choice for tampering than lose a starter for any number of games.

Vikings South says:

August 15th, 2008 at 8:39 am

Gambler: Pacman hasn’t been reinstated yet; he just Wednesday night sent in his letter to Goodell asking to be reinstated.

B. Grant says:

August 15th, 2008 at 8:48 am

If Pacman gets reinstated, he may gather up a few friends and do some serious “celebrating”.

Too bad McKinnie can’t be as tough keeping DE’s off TJ as he is with night club patrons and bouncers. Maybe its the pipe that makes the difference.

kennyrogers says:

August 15th, 2008 at 8:48 am

Goodell is just dragging this out, something bad is coming down. I thought we were caught red-handed with the tampering charges. Phone records, public knowledge, everything pointed that way. He let the Vikes off the hook this time. Then Goodell lets the Jets have a few weeks to check with Brett about playing there. That’s not tampering? He’s catering to the Cowboys, a New York team, and the Packers.

The darlings of the NFL. I expect him to drop the big one on the Vikes.

FIRE CHILDRESS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vikings South says:

August 15th, 2008 at 8:58 am

I had heard speculation (aka idiotic bullsh!t: caveat emptor) that Goodell was going to hold off on reinstating Pacman until the last minute. That way he wouldn’t have to re-un-instate him if he “made it rain” again before the regular season started.

ESPN radio, television, dot com, and the magazine. They take stories and run with them. Skip over kennyrogers posts if you want.

B. Grant says:

Yes, Kenny, you should post more concrete and factual stuff, like who blows, who should get fired, who is brown nosing, identify potential homers, etc. :-)

Andy Moss says:

Adrian Peterson talking about his so-so performances late in the season last year:

“I studied the film and I was always amazed on a lot of plays, it was really me,” Peterson said. “It wasn’t the offensive line not getting a block or anything like that, or anything they were doing really. It was really me kind of hurting myself.”

After watching the film, Peterson concluded he simply needed to be more patient and be in sync with the offensive line.

“I was able to take a lot from those tapes,” he said. “Just being more patient and learning to play up the gut more.”

He’s right, he does need to learn to be more patient. But this could be an attempt to get in the heads of opponents to get them thinking that he will run inside more, therefore giving him more room to run on the outside. Brilliant, I say, brilliant!

I read a couple other good ones. A top Chinese gymnast is only thirteen years old and the rules state you must be sixteen. The Chinese like that age because they aren’t fat like American girls and do flips better. They must not sell Juicy Lucy’s in China.

Vikings South says:

August 15th, 2008 at 9:37 am

Kenny, that one is pretty solid, reported by the New York Times. There are a number of official Chinese Web sites (now blocked in China) that show the birthdates of three Chinese gymnasts as being underage. The Chinese government said, “No, they’re legal. See? Here are the passports we created for them.” IOC said, “Good enough for us, host-country-we-don’t-want-to-offend.” Wimps.

Don’t know about Juicy Lucys, but when your team averages 77 pounds, it’s a pretty safe bet they’ve never seen one.

kennyrogers says:

August 15th, 2008 at 9:44 am

Here’s another “juicy” story. Democratic hopeful John Edward’s girlfriend is the daughter of a guy who got nailed for putting down expensive show horses. He would electrocute them for the owners so they could collect the life insurance. He got caught on one insured for $150,000.

People Fred is really sick of.

1) Brent Farve - Even in N.Y. Fred hates him.
2) Bobs Costa - Arrogant runt. Ruining Fred’s olympics.
3)McLoven - the guy that did play by plays durin the last Viking game. Dude was really bads.
4)Who ever the idiot is that does the Vikings game on the radios. He thinks if he yells, it makes it good. Listen when an exciting play is going on…he doesn’t describe it so the listener has any clues what’s going on…he stinks.
5) Flipper - the guy who has won 78 golds so far. He seems nice, but tired of him, nothing personal.

Fred is cranky.
