MANKATO — Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield isn’t afraid to offer an honest opinion and he did just that as he signed autographs for fans outside of Gage Center this evening. Asked about Packers quarterback Brett Favre playing for the Vikings, Winfield said: “I think it would be a great move for us, but I don’t know if Green Bay would trade him to a division rival.”
The Packers, in fact, have no interest in trading Favre within the NFC North and also have refused to grant him his release because they don’t want him signing with the Vikings — the team that apparently is his top choice. The Packers have filed a tampering charge against the Vikings for dealings with Favre. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday that cell phone records showed discussions between Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Favre as well Vikings coach Brad Childress and the quarterback.
Officials from the NFL were at Winter Park on Tuesday to question Vikings personnel on the matter. While many Vikings players have simply said that Tarvaris Jackson is their guy, Winfield admits the thought of adding Favre is tempting.
Winfield has played twice a season against Favre since joining the Vikings in 2004. “Favre is still a great player,” Winfield said. “That’s what you want to do in this league is add as many great players as you can. I think Tarvaris will do a great job for us if it doesn’t happen.”
Meanwhile, Childress was greeted by a group of reporters as he stepped out of his car. Asked about the Favre controversy, Childress said: “I’m not sure what controvery you’re talking about.” He later added that people should not “believe everything you read,” and that the situation is “an NFL matter.”
HAHA! Great Chili quote!
New favorite chili quote right there!
FAVRE IS WASHED UP!!!!!!
TJ WILL PUT UP BETTER #’S THAN E. RODGERS!!!!!
That is all.
Chili Fan, I’m assuming that drivel in the previous blog post comments was some sort of reference to the bouncer that McKinnie assaulted? It was already reported that the bouncer was 6′2/200lbs. Lets see…that means that McKinnie was afraid for his life because he was scared of a guy 150lbs lighter and 6 inches shorter than him. Yeah, that makes sense.
“According to reports, Bryant McKinnie (who is one of the highest paid offensive linemen in the NFL after signing a seven-year $48.5 million contract in 2006) became intoxicated at a local bar called Club Space. Bouncers asked the inebriated McKinnie to leave. He responded with a well aimed loogie to the face and several obscenities.
The bouncer, 32-year-old Eric Otero, agreed not to press charges against McKinnie if he would leave, which McKinnie did. He then went to one of the Miami-area’s lovely gentleman’s clubs to sooth his wounds with what one can only hope was at least the Sunday night B-squad of strippers.
It would seem that the local entertainment was not enough to make the 6-foot-8, 335-pound offensive tackle forget the bouncer who had rudely asked him to leave just because he was drunk and the bar is liable for his actions.
McKinnie returned to Club Space and confronted the bouncer. How you ask? Well, first McKinnie proceeded to (according to witness accounts) shove his camera phone in Otero’s face. When Otero pushed the camera away McKinnie Grabbed a metal bar that is used to hold the velvet ropes into the club and hit Otero in the face.”
King, Ha Ha! That is funny! I already bet a dumb Vikings fan $500 that Rodgers will put up better numbers and now he wants to back out of the bet. T-Jack’s best receiver wouldn’t even crack the Packers top 4 in the lineup.
His accuracy which has plagued him even back in Division II college ball will surely magically get better this year….
Oh and one more thing King. Favre is so washed up that the coaches of the guy you say will do better than Rodgers decided to tamper with and try to get Favre into a Vikings uniform. Meanwhile the Packers had enough confidence in handing over the reigns to Rodgers after the Favre retirement soap opera and stick with him even though Favre decided again in July that he wanted to come back to the Packers.
Are you really that dumb or do you just post what you want to believe vs. what is more logical and closer to the truth?
VS: BlahBlahBlah
Your best receiver this year will be Hardy and that ain’t sayin’ much. Rogers will be running for his life; good luck there. How come we haven’t heard from Double-D? Oh, that’s right; he got beat on his last route. If I was Brett I would want out, too. Wipe your nose and go back to school, boy. Your snot is green and the gold is outta reach.
VIKESUCK:
Access Vikings bloggers are not dumb. What is posted here is the truth. And it is the consensus here that you can’t handle the truth. Now go back to your own blog with this advice credited to Mr. Brad Childress, Coach of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings:
” people should not “believe everything you read,”
Hey VS,
Just because you get pushed around and bullied all day and aren’t man enough to do anything about it, doesn’t mean you have to come here under the anonymity of the internet and try to be tough.
When you graduate high school you’ll realize there are more important things for you to spend your energy on then anger and hate.
Let it go, young Skywalker.
i am a fan of how winfield used to play I hope he plays like that this year instead of how he did last year>
Skrooge, you mean the Double-D who was busy playing in the pro bowl last year? How does a wide receiver get beat on his route? What’s laughable is that many NFL analysts across multiple sports sites said that Jennings should have made it to the Pro Bowl as well.
I don’t recall reading on fox sports, cbs.sportsline, espn or sporting news anyone thinking that Barnyard Berrian was snubbed. Oh wait, he’s never even had over 1000yd receiving in his career. What you say, that’s because his QB is crap? Good thing he’s now the 4th highest paid receiver yet has never even finished in the top 30 amongst receivers and is playing with an even worse QB than Wrecks Grossman. Yeah, this is going to work out well….
Pushed around and bullied all day jasonave6413? Are you kidding me!?!? I’ve been handing it to you losers all day and can actually back up the stuff that I post. Any outsider who came in and read my posts and the responses would come to that conclusion, unless you look through purple tinted glasses. The facts speak for themselves. I deal in reality, most of the other people here deal in fantasy or what they hope would be true.
Yeah, whatever, V-suck.
On an entirely different note, I would like to know what those phone conversations were like! Maybe:
“Uh…Coach Childress?…It’s Brett…Brett Favre…Can I play for the Vikings?”
“Well, Mr. Farve, I can’t conjecture what transpires down in the hinterland, and I’m not sure what controvery you’re talking about, but don’t believe everything you read about an NFL matter.”
Cell phone records can’t show “discussions”, only calls made or received. You can’t tell by the length of the call if it was a voicemail message or not. Stop inventing $hit, Judd. I’m surprised at you, dude…
Is English your second language Kenny? “I can’t conjecture what transpires?” What the hell is that? Back to 2nd grade for you.
As was reported earlier today, there were many phone calls both TO and FROM Childress to Favre. They have no prior relationship whatsoever. Wouldn’t one phone call be enough to tell Brett he can’t talk about the matter as it would be tampering? Given the timing, it’s quite obvious what they were talking about, especially since it came after the Packers telling him they’ve moved on after he asked to come back.
One would think after 2 years of the Chilly-Willy you would realize that he tries to talk smarter than he is and it always comes back to haunt him by sounding dumb.
“It’s a kick ass offense”
I can call McCain or Obama 5 times each over the next few days. But just because I do hardly means they are offering me the vice presidency.
Hey V-suck, you may be getting a rise out of people here due to your comments, but why don’t you come back here after the season starts and lets compare statistics on the teams and on quarterbacks. You have very cute pseudo-names for various players in the NFC North, but why don’t you put that 3rd chicken pot pie down, try and push your mass away from your computer, and go do something constructive with your time. This is a chat board for people interested in discussing stories about our team, the Vikings. Go to JSOnline, or the GB Gazette- you will be amongst friends.

[…] Most Viking veterans are saying the right things about the Brett Favre speculation…and then there’s Antoine Winfield, who has officially endorsed the idea of the Purple adding old number 4, and essentially thrown Tarvaris Jackson under the bus at the same time. Said Antoine: I think [getting Favre] would be a great move for us, but I don’t know if Green Bay would trade him to a division rival. […]
