The latest word is that the Vikings and second-round pick Tyrell Johnson are very close to a contract agreement and could have it finalized Wednesday morning.
Indications are that contracts for sixth-round pick John Sullivan and fifth-rounder John David Booty also could be finalized tomorrow.
A reminder that we’ll have our training camp preview in the paper and the website tomorrow. We’ll check in from Mankato in the afternoon or in the morning if the contracts get done.
Good I was worried, considering Jared Allen was our draft…… TJohnson from what has been written is a very nice consolation prize as is JDB….. but whatever.. TJoke blows & Chilli is a dumb ass..

GO FAVRE !!!!!!!!
FIRE CHILDRESS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!
First(non-Retsub division)!
This is good news.
On the not-so-good news front: Favre and Chili talking on a Packers-owned cell phone doesn’t look great. Funny that conversations with Chili weren’t mentioned in earlier reports, if this is what the tampering charge was based on.
And as others have pointed out, Favre calling Chili wouldn’t exactly be tampering. But if Chili ever called back (i.e., if he’s as dumb as Retsub thinks), we can say goodbye to next year’s fourth-rounder.
Camp tomorrow — FINALLY! Let’s get on the field and talk about that. Something other than the mundane FFF. Judd and Chip - congratulations on back-to-back blog stories about the Vikings. Its a nice change.
Yeah, there will be denials galore, South. I just hope they get it resolved soon, tell us the results, and lets get on with the season!
Chili probably figured that if he held an IHOP menu between his mouth and the cell phone then the call couldn’t be traced. If Chili and or Bevell ever do get fired, hopefully one of the interview questions for the next coach will be “What would you do if the other team constantly puts 8 or 9 in the box?”
Booty’s gonna look really good, he came from a pro-style offense and he’s been groomed to play pretty much from the womb. I hope he gets a decent amount of reps.
Judd,
Why does the media expect the Vikings to comment on the supposed tampering, when the Packers also have taken the position of not commenting?
Ed
nice beat down of Vikesuck today. Can you exterminate some Flaxton next?
Taking out Retsub might be too much to ask
I think that Chip should put an R in his last name. Scroggins just sounds more….Fun.. lets you roll the Rrrr off the tongue. Anyways that was my stupid comment of the night. Cant wait for Thursday and Friday. Ill be sitting on the bleachers sipping down two or three $3.00 Gatoraid’s Eating a half dozen $2.00 Cookies while standing in line two hours to get autographs. Not to mention the $5.00 Per day parking. I love Training camp. I have more reasons to complain. I promise I will take notes and give updates.
Is there a practice thursday? or is everyone still reporting.
I think you might have another day to wait, cliff, until the first practice.
In the meantime…a few more IHOP menu jokes and we should be warmed up and ready to get this thing rolling.
This may be off topic, why does does it require a different login to comment on a story? I comment on this blog with no problem, but it doesn’t recognize me when I try to comment on a story.
Why does the Strib require separate registrations to comment on stories?
The whole “But Favre called Chili, not the other way around” argument doesn’t exactly hold water. If the reports are correct and there ends up being 5-10 calls from Favre to Coach we’re screwed. In today’s age of called ID, Chili should have been able to identify the number and simply stop picking up the phone. There shouldn’t have been more than one call necessary for Bradley to simply tell Favre that he couldn’t speak to him about bringing #4 to Minnesota.
We ARE going to lose draft picks over this. I swear to God that there is a black cloud hanging over this franchise…
Another potential storyline is that if Chili was participating in conversations with Favre regarding him being the Vikings QB for 2008, what does that say about his confidence in T-Joke? Has Chili finally seen what the rest of us has? That his “piece of clay” hasn’t exactly been molded into an NFL-caliber starter? So much for all the votes of confidence from his coaches and teammates…
My question\comment is, how stupid is Favre for using a cell Phone the Pukers provided him? Why not run to the local Pamida in MS, buy a disposable phone and make your phone calls to the Vikings from that?
This is all a conspiracy of Favre and the Pukers. They knew the Vikings were making progress in being the top team in the NFC Central. And this is a way to level the playing field.
*(insert sarcasm on the conspiracy comment)
Tommy: There are several people out there who would buy into that conspiracy theory. Chili is even stupider for accepting the calls on his home phone…
Someone on a previous blog argued that the Vikes couldn’t be found guilty of tampering with an ex/retired player, but Favre never filed his retirement papers, or did he?
Bones - Chili’s caller ID wasn’t working and he thought it was a call from the National Republican Convention Headquarters wondering if they could get his support when they’re in town next month.
That convention is gonna make my life hell. St. Paul is going to be very difficult to get around in…
Chili still believes that caller ID is a fad and will be gone within the year. He doesn’t believe it is worth the $5.99 per month…
It is really going to sting if we get hit with a penalty AND Favre returns to the Packers. The Sconnies will never let us hear the end of it…
Good Morning, all. We just cannot avoid the YKW talk can we? I guess it is one more “mess” we are blessed with. This appears to be a compettion of “Who was Dumber?” between YKW and The Chill. Who nominates which?
Tommy, two posts before 9:00? You know what they say!!!
Is there going to be another blog video from Mankato? Last year’s suspenseful “Find Judd” had me on the edge of my seat! I honestly didn’t know until the last minute whether or not Seifert would actually find Judd. That is good film making…
I don’t think Favre actually filed his retirement papers.
Mr. Bones, maybe you should try using the ToddTodd navigation system. It works wonders for the Flaxton clan on Sundays trying to get to Denny’s for lunch while navigating the always busy post-church traffic
When in Rome???
Those TomTom GPS things are not trustworthy 100% of the time.
Ole- Beat down of me? I’d say if anyone got beat down it was Sharockman. I proved that his comments were wrong and made no sense. People should really do their homework with regards to what tampering is and what past teams who got punished for this did. If anything the case is much stronger than the charges against the 49ers in which they were penalized.
Bones- It’s been awhile. What happened to you? I’m impressed. You actually post comments that are logical and make sense. That black cloud you mentioned was what I was speaking of months ago. You’re finally admitting it now. Nice to see you take off the purple blinders for a second and step into a world of reality. History has a funny way of not being able to lie.
Mr Tommy. When in Rome, make sure to check out all the historical sites. Ronald really enjoyed going to the Colliseum on our last trip to the Vatican. Quite educational.
Yours in God

I vote for Chili as the dumber one. How can you scold your players for breaking the code of conduct when the team’s leader does something this idiotic…
You’re one weird dude Flaxton…
Mr. Moss, you are correct, the TomTom is not very trustworthy. However, the ToddTodd is 100% effective almost 90% of the time. Made by Flaxton Industries, you know the quality is top notch.
Mr. Bones, I prefer to consider myself eclectic. Few people understand the genius that pours through the veins of the Flaxton Clan. Much like Coach Childress, who I believe to have been the victim of a dispicable plot by the hated Green Bay Packers. Naming your team after the homosexual lifestyle is a sure way to punch your ticket to hell.

As of right now these are just accusations being made by a desperate franchise who knows the balance of power in the NFC North is shifting away from them. How many of you have seen the evidence with your own eyes?
There are so many things that “they” say - it is hard to keep track.
From reading between the lines in Chip’s article today, I don’t get the impression that the Vikes want YKW for a “this is the year” mindset. Zigi and company are taking a very long range view on their expectations and personnel. They have spent big money, but not really any “one year” money.
Zigi: “And I think working together as we have been over the last few years and having the staff work together with the team, we’re at a point right now that we expect great things to come forward in the next couple of years and many years to come.”
Whether we like it or not, this year would have to be a TOTAL disaster for any changes that some people (Retsub, for one) might want.
I have seen the evidence.
Mr. Suck, please leave this blog immediately. There is no place for your type of scoundrel here in the Access Vikings blog.
Sincerely,
~T
I also have seen evidence of Mrs. King sleepin’ around.
Toad Flaxton,
Thank you for your request. After careful consideration, I have decided to deny your request at this time.
Sincerely,
V
[…] Second-round pick Tyrell Johnson could sign with the Vikings as early as this morning says Chip Scoggins of the Star-Tribune. 5th round QB John David Booty and 6th round offensive lineman John Sullivan could also ink today. Sorry, but it’s hard to get that interested in these draftee signings when they’re not really name guys, and when the whole off-season has been full of exciting stories like the Jared Allen trade and the Brett Favre speculation. It’s all just formality now. Hopefully training camp will bring some big news, not of the injury or behind-the-scenes tension variety. Mainly, I want to hear that Tarvaris Jackson is developing chemistry with his receivers, that the defensive line is gelling and that Adrian Peterson is sitting on the sideline in a lawn chair sipping a cool beverage and listening to his iPod. We have an open relationship.
King, it doesn’t matter if he filed retirement papers or not. He is still property of the Pack until 2010.
If that was the case, all a player would have to do to get out of his contract would be to declare he was retiring, sign the papers and re-sign on another team.
Retired or not, the Pukers have rights to him.
I guess Favre and the Pack…..do not.
VikesSuck..the evidence may in your mind be stronger..however there is a big difference in talking to a player and calling his agent. You only call his agent for one reason.
Tickets to Shakira?
AFVikeHawaii, you need to use your head a bit. Childress and Favre had NO personal relationship whatsoever. This has been well documented. If it was just Bevell, they could argue that they were just two buddies keeping in touch given that they are friends from the days he was his QB coach. You could have gotten away with that one as it would have been hard to prove anything.
Your agent theory doesn’t hold much water either. An agent usually represents players on many teams. If Favre’s agent called, who is to say he doesn’t also represent a current player on the Queens and was discussing that player?
Chili did it. We’re going to lose a pick or two. We’ll survive.
I don’t agree that this season would have to be a total disaster for Chili to get his walking papers. I think another 8-8 or 9-7 with no playoffs will have Zygi plenty miffed, especially when coupled with this latest embarrassment.
Also, it doesn’t matter that Favre initiated the calls.
If the length of the call was any longer than it would take Childress to say “I can’t talk to you, goodbye” the Vikings are probably screwed.
Then again, the way Childress talks, that could take like 20 minutes.
Like I said before, I do not feel comfortable with Childress’ ’soap opera/tampering’ answer from a week or so ago. That was way too slick and Childress thinks he is much smarter than he actually is.
This whole tampering thing makes the previous head coach scalping Super Bowl tickets pretty tame, doesn’t it?
Not only that, but it undermines the supposed vote of confidence that he recently gave T-Joke as being the guy, doesn’t it?
Miami is correct. All Chili needed to do was tell Favre on the FIRST call that he couldn’t speak on this matter, wish him the best of luck, and NOT ANSWER THE PHONE ANYMORE WHEN THAT NUMBER CAME UP!
I prefer to wait and see what the facts actually are. I think we have a shortage of info to be making such conclusive assertions.
And VS, I think the Pukers have a significant enough mess of their own right now, where the “retired” QB, apparent new QB, coach and GM are all quoting over one another to save butt. We will move beyone this issue far sooner than the Pukes can move beyond theirs.
and apparently the NFL now wants this resolved and they aren’t going to just let the Packers try and force him to stay retired….
