More from Brainerd

May 15th, 2008 – 4:28 PM by Judd Zulgad

A few odds and ends from the visit by Vikings owner Zygi Wilf and running back Adrian Peterson today in Brainerd.

– Peterson on the expectations for the season and winning the NFC North: “I feel like anything is possible. That’s definitely our goal is to win the North division and we have made some good moves this offseason. Zygi with all the moves he has made with Bernard Berrian, Jared Allen. Some of the additions we have brought to the Vikings in different positions. I feel like as committed as we are, he is also committed and given us the best chance to go for the ultimate goal. I feel like we have all the tools and this is all about being prepared when our time comes. If I have anything to do with it, and I do, we are definitely going to be prepared. I’m just ready to get things going.”

– Peterson on giving back to the community by making appearances at various functions: “It’s very important to me. God has blessed me to be in this position to be able to reach out and talk to the youth and the kids in the community. I realize that and coming from the small town that I came from we really didn’t have that a lot. Now I’m in a position where I can reach out to younger kids and inspire them to do better and be [even] better than me. Whatever they set their minds to do. It feels good to go out and interact with the community.”

– Wilf on the excitement level for the team: “We’ve got excitement from everybody throughout the state. The Minnesota Vikings are part of everybody’s being here in Minnesota, more than anywhere else that I’ve seen for any other team throughout any community. The enthusiasm is great. I’ve encouraged the fans to keep on supporting our team, coming out and rooting for our team because the proudest thing we can do is bring them a team not only that we can be proud of both on and off the field but to bring a championship and many championships to Minnesota.”

I must say, I’m excited to see AD try to accomplish his goals… should be fun!

2,000 yards rushing (plus prolly another 700 out of CT and 250 out of TJ) can tire down defenses pretty quick, and makes sure that our Defense gets plenty of rest. A lack of a real rushing threat is a BIG reason why our pass defense has been so bad the last 12 years. With yards like that, and Jared Allen making plays… the D should be a monster this year.

I like Zygi’s style. He seems like he’s having FUN. It’s fun to win, and he wants to have more fun, and doesn’t let stadium talks get in his way. Zygi has added three superstars in three years… Hutchison, Peterson, and now Allen. Not too shabby… those playmakers are how a team succeeds.

Now, choices of head choach ont he other hand…

Our biggest enemy this season is suspensions and injuries… if we could stay clean on those two things, we’d be Super Bowl contenders.

don’t forget QB, although if he’d chosen another head coach, we wouldn’t have the QB issue we do now.

Although we do have Booty! (thats still humorous no matter how many times its said)

T-Jack should be better. Think about it his weapons:

Bernard Berrian: A speedster who can stretch the field AND catch… he’s beat DB’s in our division time and time again.

Sidney Rice: Showed tons of promise as a big, acrobatic reciever. Should be better in his second year in the league.

Bobby Wade: He’ll have year of the Vikes system under his belt and be able to return back to the slot where he is most natural.

Visanthe Shiancoe: His first year as a starter was terrible, so he can really only move towards improvement.

AD: As stated, he’s working on his pass-catching, which’ll give TJ high percantage compeltion options.

There are also a bunch of other players (i.e. Ferguson, Mills) who’ll be entering their second year in the system and can compete for starting jobs. Even if TJack doesn’t improve himself (which I think he will) then his surrounding cast should be able to help make him look good. And if not, I know they can make Frerotte look good :)

akvikesfan says:

I feel (and hope) that the Vikes can become a consistent and methodical offense. With the exception of AD, there are no real game breakers on the offense. However, with the guys they do have, it seems that they should be able to slowly pick away at opposing defenses, 5 yards at a time. Witht he occasional 80 yard bolt from AD, of course. But seriously, I feel like any QB could gain five yards per play with this offense.

This gives us a chance to keep our D fresh and healthy. And that’s dangerous considering the talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Let’s all hope TJack comes into his own, McKinnie somehow ends up not being a pain in the you know what, AD actually carries the ball more than 9 times a game, we can expect to see the other team get sacked more than once per game, everyone stays healthy, and Chili invites Bill Cowher in as a guest play-caller every weekend.

I was running a 2 minute drill with my TJack & Garrett Mills action figures last night along with my sock puppet coach Childress. On the third play of the 2 minute drill TJack was picked off again my my Master action figure. It really wasn’t TJack’s fault though. He has only been in 12 games so he is still a rookie and is still learning how to read signals from my stained sock puppet Coach Childress. Again Tjack showed great if not incredible arm strength, because on the interception he over threw the Garrett Mills action figure by 20 yards!

I am going to reinact the attack because from what I have heard Bryant is innocent. Plus I can tape my reinactment and give it to Bryants attorney therefore proving that Bryant is innocent. Without my 100% correct reinactment I am sure Bryant would be found guilty.

The cost of a retractable roof for the MetroDome plus sprucing up the place would probably be in the range $ 100 million. The ‘Dome has a smaller footprint than the facility below

www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/westcoastnews/story.html?id=76616382-ec84-4ee4-b90c-c39f74d7c899

What’s the current value of the ‘Dome w/o a Vike lease? Maybe in the $20 M range? In this economy I would look for Metropolitan Sports Commission and Zygi to make a deal involving a retractable roof along with downtown redevelopment. Zygi could buy or at least control the ‘Dome outright as part of the overall plan. Public officials will soon be under pressure to generate jobs and investment rather than secure ownership of a soon-to-be empty building
