It’s official: Vikings to open on Monday night

March 31st, 2008 – 10:38 AM by Judd Zulgad

The NFL announced this afternoon that the Vikings will play the Green Bay Packers in the Monday night opener at 6 p.m., Sept. 8 at Lambeau Field on ESPN. As has become the custom, it will be the first game of a Monday night doubleheader on the network. The game will be the first for the Packers in the post-Brett Favre era. (Do you think there will be a little talk about Favre that night? Guessing Aaron Rodgers will feel a bit of pressure.) The MNF nightcap that day will feature Denver at Oakland at 9:15 p.m. in an AFC West game.

ESPN’s top Monday night announcing team of Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski and Tony Kornheiser will call the early game at Lambeau Field. The crew for the second game will be announced later this offseason.

The Vikings also played on the opening Monday night of the 2006 season when they beat Washington in Brad Childress’ first game as head coach.

Last season, the Vikings made only one Monday night appearance. That came Dec. 17 at the Metrodome. Of course, the 2007 schedule was done long before Adrian Peterson proved himself to be one of the NFL’s top running backs and marquee attractions. Overall, the Vikings finished with two prime-time games last season. The Dec. 23 matchup against Washington was moved to Sunday night on NBC under the league’s flexible scheduling system.

For those of you who live in the Twin Cities area and don’t get ESPN, you don’t have to worry. Under NFL rules, the network must find a local station to simulcast the coverage. It’s likely that station will be KSTP (Ch. 5).

The NFL announced key dates associated with the opening week today at the league’s meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. As expected, the Super Bowl champion New York Giants will play host to Washington at 6 p.m. on Sept. 4 on NBC. Kickoff will be 90 minutes earlier than the start time of the traditional season opener due to the Republican National Convention, which NBC News will cover following the conclusion of the game.

Chicago and Indianapolis will play in the Sunday night primetime opener at 7:15 on NBC on Sept. 7. That will be the first regular-season game at the Colts’ new Lucas Oil Stadium.

The rest of the NFL schedule will be announced later this month.

This will be the sixth time the Vikings have opened against the Packers. A look at their previous meetings in season openers:

Sept. 16, 1962: Packers 34, Vikings 7 at Green Bay (Vikings finished 2-11-1)

Sept. 15, 1974: Vikings 32, Packers 17 at Green Bay (Vikings finished 10-4)

Sept. 6, 1992: Vikings 23, Packers 20, overtime, at Green Bay (Vikings finished 11-5 in Dennis Green’s first season)

Sept. 4, 1994: Packers 16, Vikings 10 at Green Bay (Vikings finished 10-6)

Sept. 7, 2003: Vikings 30, Packers 25 at Green Bay (Vikings finished 9-7)

Draft party: The Vikings draft party will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 26 at the team’s Winter Park headquarters. General admission tickets are $15 and go on sale Tuesday. They can be purchased at all Vikings Locker Room stores, by calling Ticketmaster at 651-989-5151 or by going to http://www.ticketmaster.com/. There will be interactive games as well as the chance to have your photo taken with Adrian Peterson’s MVP trophy from the Pro Bowl.

For those who want to spend more, a special section called the Red Zone will have reserved seating and provide a few benefits. Those tickets will cost $70. Owners of those tickets will receive a private autograph session with a current Vikings player and free food and beverage coupons.

Congratulations Aaron Rodgers, you get to play your first game as replacing BF on national television. You may be the QB, but we will hear Favre’s name more than yours. Oh, and don’t expect to run the ball either.

Ed Sharockman says:

Of course it will be at Lambush. Then everybody can cry about Brett Farvegnuegen. We’ll have to sit and watch those lame film clips through the whole damn game. He’ll be up there in the booth - the refs will be influenced by crowd and all of the nostalgia crap… F@#K.

Reposting a MOP answer.

2MT: You’re right about a 2nd being too much for Rosenfels given the Schaub deal. But in NO circumstance should the Vikes keep BB as T-Jack’s top backup.

In my humble opion: A, then d, then c.

Ed Sharockman says:

March 31st, 2008 at 11:10 am

Re-offer the 3rd and add a 6th (or maybe a 5th, but no more then that).

wisvike says:

March 31st, 2008 at 11:13 am

The reason I say a 3rd and a fifth is then we still have a pick in every round. That has to be a win win there. Opening Monday night means definitale putting my TV on SAP so I don’t have to hear, if Fa.gre was in there for that play he would have oden this or done that. He retired you idiots, stop talking about him.

Vikings South says:

March 31st, 2008 at 11:13 am

Two more things about Rosencrantz:

1. I keep hearing he was 4-1 as a starter last year. True. But it’s also true that Houston was 4-5 when he played. Just saying…

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5557

2. Aren’t he and Guildenstern dead?

Frosted Flake says:

March 31st, 2008 at 11:15 am

… sometimes, you end up paying more than you should for something because you did something stupid in the past. So, while a 2nd is too much to pay for Rosepetals, it may be the cost you have to pay for having a QB teaching genius as your coach …

2Minute Tommy says:

March 31st, 2008 at 11:17 am

wisvike - when did the Vikings get a 2nd 5th round pick? We have 2 3rd’s and 2 6th’s.

i3endy says:

March 31st, 2008 at 11:21 am

This is a must win for Childress and TJack as losing this would make 5 straight losses to the pack. If Brad goes 0-6 against the pack in his first 3 years hes done for sure.

And in Vikings news, I watched Wrestlemania with some Broward County Assistant Prosecutors last night and got the lowdown on Randy Moss and his run in down here. Apparently Moss decided to show that woman how strong his pimp hand really is. Boo to Moss for hitting women.

My first time here. I have read many comments. I don’t play professional football, but…nor do any here I imagine. Buster Rhymes, hmmmm your problem is deep. The Vikings, in my humble opinion has an above average starting QB ( compare stats w/ Farve, Peyton Brady and even Fran ) he’ s above the curve. The proof is after a season, this is very promising coming up. especially w/ TJ. If he isn’t the difference then I will be here to eat my words. Will you Buster?

highonfire says:

March 31st, 2008 at 2:12 pm

MiamiViking says:

If the Vikings win the SB it will be solely because of ADAP. TJax better not screw it up.

Sorry wisvike, tis true.

B. Grant says:

As your governor, I will approve a new Viking stadium. It will be paid for by doubling the out-of-state fishing and hunting licenses, and charging a 40% ticket tax on Vikes games tix purchased by anyone with a Wisconsin address. I will also declare Fishing Opener to be on a Friday, and deem it a mandatory paid holiday for all Minnesotans who purchase a fishing license.

wisvike says:

March 31st, 2008 at 2:17 pm

Miami - I said to win the SB. That means he did it, with his plays. Not, just not losing it. You’re right, if the VIkings win the SB it will be solely because of AD. Lets just cut the rest of the team and put him on the field by himself that way we can pay him 50 mil a year for ten years and we don’t ever have to worry about losing.

TJ career high in yards is 249…along with 3 INT’s and 0 TD’s, 2nd best is 220 with 2INT’s 1TD, the more yards he throws for…the more picks…so if he threw for 300+ that would be 3, 4 even 5 INT’s??

MudHenVikeFan says:

March 31st, 2008 at 2:24 pm

I don’t care if T-Jax never tops the 300 mark…but more consistent production and establishing that he can make a defense pay for mistakes are absolutely necessary. I believe most 300 yard games are on the losing side. If we’re playing to our strengths, T-Jax won’t have to get anywhere near 300 (but yes, I agree, it would be nice to know he could without throwing 5 INTs).

KingKC uhda TC says:

March 31st, 2008 at 2:27 pm

W’s are the only stat that matters.

Take A Risk says:

low-rick?

I think that has something to do with Spielman.

wisvike says:

March 31st, 2008 at 2:27 pm

Also, to the 300 yard games means the running game isn’t working. Like that will ever happen with AD and CT back there. Like Mud said, if T-Jax can make the defense be honest than the running game will work and T-Jax will rarely throw for more than 250. That is if he doesn’t disappoint and not step up his game.

bettinonvikes says:

March 31st, 2008 at 2:30 pm

OK, Int’s = Brett. I admire even as a die Viking fan. Wanna win, what an attitude, hmmmmm Don’t forget all the game winners that mostly came late in Bretts career. But… dues were paid by Brett and the Packer faithful, with support at first I will add. Give TJ a real chance w/ some receivers…..

highonfire says:

We still have a baseball team?

Thx J

The Vikes are a 10 win team no matter who we add or subtract at this point. T-Jax will be just Ok but still has a long way to go. But he will do enough to win 10 games. That should win the division. The question will be how are we build for the playoffs? QBs decide wins in the post season and I’m not sure he can lead in that way. Look at the lack of success teams like the Chargers have had with stud running backs and just OK QBs. Our best hope is a draft day trade for one of the stud DEs and the addition of Williams at safety making a huge difference on third and passing yards.

Then again, do we really think there are a whole lot of QBs in the NFC that you would consider a stud? Manning? Really?

highonfire says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:11 pm

We may win in spite of TJ, but to all of the sudden be able win 10 games…you forget we have 14 wins in 2 seasons and sometimes a QB CAN actually lose a game…

VikingJ says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:15 pm

after this upcoming season, that will be 33 wins in 3 years.

marshall70 says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:17 pm

high - QBs can loose the game but I don’t think he will be put in that position very often. We are still not built to come from behind and the KAO does not provide for a QB to “Go Off”… ever. He will make mistakes but just like the last couple of years the games we lose will be because of mulitple issues… I will give you this though… my predoction is based on Chilli getting better at managing the game himself. At the risk of going against conventional wisdom (at least on this blog) I don’t think he’s that bad. 10 wins, 1 playoff win. That’s my story…

marshall70 says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:18 pm

BTW - “all of a sudden”? 10 wins would be a 2 game improvement over last year… not exactly a worst to first scenario…

highonfire says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:20 pm

after the upcoming present future we will be still living in the past just like we are now….

Ive already done the things I forgot to do that are behind and haven’t been done yet…the past is now and the future was then and now were going to be 33 “W’s” in 3 years…is that right J? Im confused

B. Grant says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:26 pm

From 8 wins to 10 is not “all of the sudden”, IMHO. From TWill to Berrian is a huge upgrade alone. TJax is not as much of a concern factor as the positions of OL and DE. If we can protect him better, and get off the field more often on D, I think “Tarwar” will be adequate.

highonfire says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:27 pm

highonfire says:

I think we could get a very optomistic 5 wins in the 8 games in our division, the we play The Manning Bro’s, the Jags, Houston?, and who else, those are four losses right there with 3 in the division so…thats 7 losses already…I say 9-7 optomistically…

MudHenVikeFan says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:44 pm

Fargo - first, I posed it as a question; second, in 2007 there were 81 300-yard games during the regular season…

…W-L record of 43-38…not much of an advantage for throwing over 300 yards.

BTW, there were only 4, 400-yard games…W-L of 1-3. The break point appears to be about 330 yards…very few wins beyond that mark.

With our run/run D strengths, I’ll be plenty happy with a bunch of 225-yard, 2 TD games out of T-Jax.

Gotta go for the night.

highonfire says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:47 pm

wait we only have 6 division games…so 4 wins 2 losses, then the 5 losses out of the div at least…still 9-7

B. Grant says:

March 31st, 2008 at 3:50 pm

Brady and Manning CAN throw for 300+, but their teams are not necessarily at their best when they have to achieve those numbers. Along with TJ not being their caliber, however, is the fact that that neither is our receiving corps of their caliber.

On the other side, our RB fleet is superior to either of theirs, and is the focus of the KAO. Additionally, our OL blocks much better for the run than in pass protection.

Predicting the results of a schedule can be very unfruitful. How many thought we would win AT NYG in 07? or throttle SDiego? or beat the previous Super Bowl CHI Bears twice? Did we expect to lose at DET, or at home to SKINS, or to the Pukers twice? Who knows, we may play the game of our lives, get a couple breaks, and beat the Colts. Even “strength of scheudle” can be very unpredictable between now and next fall.

None for us again this year!

Fifteen teams received a total of 32 compensatory draft picks today when the NFL revealed the final tally at the league meetings in Palm Beach, Florida.

Compensatory draft picks are extra picks in the third through seventh rounds, and they go to teams that lost more or better free agents than they acquired, based on a complex formula. The maximum number of compensatory picks any team can receive is four, which the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals got this year.

The Bears, Colts, Eagles and Redskins got three compensatory picks apiece. The Bills, Panthers and Dolphins got two each, and the Falcons, Packers, Giants, Rams, Chargers and Titans each got one.

The most valuable compensatory picks are the third-rounders, which were awarded to the Redskins, Bengals, Falcons and Ravens. In past years those would have been the last four picks of the first day of the draft; this year the third round is on the second day.

Fourth-round compensatory picks went to the Eagles, Bills, Ravens, Titans and Packers. Only one team, the Chargers, got a fifth-round compensatory pick.

Sixth-round compensatory picks were awarded, in order, to the Giants, Eagles, Colts, Colts, Eagles, Dolphins, Colts, Ravens and Bengals. The rest of the compensatory picks are seventh-rounders.

17. Minnesota Vikings 8 8 .504
Calais Campbell, DE, Miami. The Vikings would probably prefer to see Derrick Harvey fall to this spot because he would be the ideal pass rusher for the Vikings system, but with Harvey gone, the next best option is Campbell. At more than 6-7, Campbell is a huge base end who has as much upside as any of the defensive ends available at this point in the draft. His numbers dropped as a junior last year when the Hurricanes underwent a coaching change, but the Vikings would be an ideal place for him to harness his raw talent and become the great player so many believed he was going to be after a breakout sophomore season. His blend of speed and size is rare and he has the potential to be a difference-maker at a position the Vikings need to improve at desperately. With Kenechi Udeze’s future up in the air as a result of being diagnosed with leukemia and the future being just as cloudy for Erasmus James after three surgeries on the same knee in the last 12 months, help at this position has to take precedence. Phillip Merling of Clemson could be another viable option because of his ability to play inside or outside, but Campbell’s talent and his potential to be a Pro Bowl DE if the coaching staff can light a fire under him makes him a logical choice for the first-round pick this year.

I just read a story about Rosenfels in the Tribune site. Someone posted this comment. He wants to trade for Brett Favre.
“Come on!! Let’s just see. Can you imagine the craziness at Domeland if Longwell, Sharper, & Ferguson could do it. Don’t tell me I’m the only one thinking a 45 yr old Farve would be better than T-Jack.”

I bet the Vikes would get the 9:00 Monday Night game if that happened!

I find the Redskin QB situation interesting. Collins had some late season success, yet did not look good in their playoff loss and doesn’t seem like a logical #1. Campbell showed signs of success at times, yet might be seen as a TJax type in skin land due to some irratic play. What are we to make of the Redskins QB position?

kennyrogers says:

March 31st, 2008 at 5:58 pm

‘Skins have problems. Collins is 54 years old or something and Campbell is coming off the injury. They lucked out big time last year and the playoff showed “they were who we thought they were.”*

A late response to the question of the day. Sign Gus, use the 2 for a QB, cut BB (after camp of course). Sage had a good half year, but the rest of his career has been forgettable. Even so, Sage might be better than TJ but Chili won’t let Sage or anyone else start. So, get a decent QB with the #2 and be ready for 09 with a new QB and new coach.

I think Campbell is up and coming he is the starter. Not sure that he is ready for the opener. He looked solid towards the end of last year. Lots of games over 300 hundred yards with multiple TD’s at the end of the year. Prior to him getting hurt.

The funny thing is he doesn’t seem to do well connecting with santana Moss. Collins steped in and Moss was a factor again. i know moss was hurt that year but still. I think if there is more of the same this upcoming season I would look for the skins to be Moving Moss. Might even be able to get him cheaper whoever goes after him if he doesn’t have a great year

B. Grant says:

March 31st, 2008 at 7:09 pm

I watched Campbell in person vs. Pukers at Lambut this year (a favor to a friend who is a season tix holder there). He looks athletic and seems a potential, but also missed receivers and reads in some key situations. Reminded me of TJax. He liked their TE (name escapes me) as his #1 receiver, that was clear

Few teams in the NFL have proven as adept at snatching gut-wrenching failure from the jaws of seemingly inevitable victory as the Minnesota Vikings. So as the team retools this offseason, here are five ways the wheels could come off in 2008.

1. The most obvious: Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson doesn’t grow, continues to turn the ball over and can’t do enough to take pressure off the team’s running game.

With a viable passing attack, Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor could both rush for 1,000 yards this upcoming season. Without one, the Viking offense will once again struggle to sustain drives and score points. The team was 15th in the league last year in scoring at 22.8 points per game.

But that includes eight defensive touchdowns, which, when subtracted from the total, would drop Minnesota to 21st.

The lack of receiving talent, combined with the relative inexperience of several players, contributed to last season’s anemic passing attack. But Jackson should have the tools around him he needs to produce results in 2008. If he doesn’t make it work this year, his career as a starter, and Minnesota’s season, will likely be over.

2. Suspension takes its toll: It’s hard to envision a scenario in which left tackle Bryant McKinnie doesn’t get suspended for at least two games, and more likely four, thanks to his February arrest in Miami. When that happens, the Vikings are going to have a big hole to fill at a vital position on the offensive line.

The good news is that the team has all offseason to prepare for that eventuality. The bad news is that there is currently nobody on the roster who seems capable of adequately filling in.

If the Vikings decide McKinnie will remain with the team and try to muddle through in his absence, the club might be in for a slow start in 2008. And that won’t please owner Zygi Wilf as he tries to build momentum for a new stadium.

The Vikings narrowly avoided local television blackouts for several games in 2007. If those blackouts become a reality in 2008, things could get very ugly in a hurry.

3. Pass defense continues its swoon: The Vikings were dead last in pass defense in 2007, allowing nearly 264.1 yards per game. The addition of safety Madieu Williams, whose coverage skills are the strongest part of his game, should help. But the loss of Kenechi Udeze and Erasmus James will hurt a pass rush that wasn’t outstanding to begin with.

Cornerback Antoine Winfield will be another year older (31) when the season starts, and 2007’s other starter at that position, Cedric Griffin, will need to rebound from sophomore slump.

As things stand right now, the Vikings still need more significant additions than cornerback Benny Sapp (signed Tuesday) if they expect to greatly improve their pass defense.

4. The wrong player gets hurt: All teams have players they can’t afford to lose. The Vikings are no exception.

Peterson’s injury concerns are well documented, and Taylor can carry the load if need be. But what if Jackson gets hurt? Raw as he is, the Vikings starter has much more talent and potential than backup Brooks Bollinger, who currently has nobody backing him up.

Remove free-agent acquisition Bernard Berrian from the mix, and the Vikings are in even worse shape than last year at receiver — unless you view the loss of Troy Williamson as addition by subtraction, as some fans no doubt do.

And if either Steve Hutchinson or Matt Birk were to go down, the offensive line would be a patchwork of journeymen and unproven youth, especially given McKinnie’s situation.

5. A poor draft: The franchise’s mantra is build through the draft. You horde draft picks, then make them count. The team did a great job of this in 2007 as several rookies played significant roles during the season.

The 2008 rookie class is, it seems, already being counted on to have a similar impact and shore up significant areas of weakness, given Minnesota’s moves in free agency thus far.

How the rookies fare will undoubtedly have a great deal to do with how the Vikings fare in 2008.

The Vikes were “on the clock” today on ESPN. While I am not often in agreement with Mort, Kiper and crew, it was noteworthy that one of them referred to the Vikes roster as “strong”. They mentioned Harvey as our first draft pick, and it seems to be a forgone choice IF he is still available, which I doubt.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft addressed for the first time the February 2 bombshell allegations from the Boston Herald regarding allegations that the team he owns cheated in the Super Bowl six years ago.

“A newspaper made a damaging allegation about the so-called Matt Walsh affair,” Kraft said on Monday. “I believe it’s something that never happened. If so, why wouldn’t — two months later – anything have come out? But we live in a society where people can make any kind of allegations. But then, it has to be substantiated.”

Though Kraft didn’t tiptoe onto the next stone of logic, an inability by the Herald to substantiate the allegations could expose the newspaper to a lawsuit from the organization.

But that’s for another day, if ever. For now, the focus remains on Walsh. Said Kraft: “[H]e never signed any confidentiality statement with us, so as far as I’m concerned, I don’t know why he doesn’t just come out and speak.”

Let’s repeat that. “[H]e never signed any confidentiality agreement.”

The supposed existence of a confidentiality agreement is what kept Walsh from spilling the beans to the New York Times on January 31, two days before Super Bowl XLII. But there isn’t one.

The non-existence of a confidentiality agreement previously was buried in a marginally-related article by Mike Fish of ESPN.com, and the non-existence of said confidentiality agreement was ignored by the rest of the media.

It shouldn’t be. If there’s no confidentiality agreement, there’s no reason for Walsh not to talk. So if he’s not talking, he’s not talking for other reasons.

So what the hell are they?

We have a feeling that we’re more likely to find out the number of licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop.

It might have to but that draft the best guy availble mentality to the test

B. Grant says:

We might be in better position to say what positions the Vikes will NOT draft in the first round. Other than linebacker, QB (not in the first round!) and running back, any posiiton is in play for that first pick in the BPA mentality.

Monctonvike says:

B. Grant says:

March 31st, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Ok, I suppose even QB would be an option as well, although I think it would mean ignoring a couple glaring needs elsewhere. I’m a firm believer in being in control on the line, and let the rest take care of itself. Protect your QB and pressure theirs, run the ball and stop the run, that is the essence of FB, and all that starts on the line. We are good in the run dept., not so in the other aspect.

Monctonvike says:

According to both Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and Pro Football Talk, the Vikings’ opener has been determined.

The NFL will announce this afternoon that the Vikings will play the Green Bay Packers in the Monday night opener at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 on ESPN, according to an industry source. As has become the custom, it will be the first game of a Monday night doubleheader on the network. The game is expected to be played at Lambeau Field and will be the first for the Packers in the post-Brett Favre era.
Wonderful. . .the Vikings get to travel to Lambeau on a night where it’s guaranteed that nobody will shut up for two seconds about Brett Favre. Ah, well, after the Vikings’ victory that night, that’s pretty much all anyone from Wisconsin will have to talk about.

In tribute to Favre, look for Aaron Rodgers to complete four passes to Vikings defenders that night and get totally outplayed by the better quarterback.

More on this later today. Continue enjoying your Monday, folks!

There’s an interesting item from Armando Salguero in his Miami Herald blog (i.e., the place where he posts all the crap that isn’t good enough for the fish wrap).

The Miami Dolphins, per Salguero, locked in their draft board last week. Thus, if they don’t trade out of the top spot in the draft, they know the name of the player whom they’ll pick, if they don’t trade down.

But that doesn’t mean that they’ll ultimately pick the person currently at the top of the board. The next step for the Fins presumably will be to launch contract negotiations with the first two or three players on their board, in the hopes of working out in advance of the draft a contract with the man who’ll be the No. 1 overall selection.

In such circumstances, it’s possible that the Fins would move on to the player currently at No. 2 or No. 3, if that guy will take a deal that the team regards as sufficiently favorable.

Last year, the Oakland Raiders didn’t do that with quarterback JaMarcus Russell, and as a result didn’t sign him until September. And there were strong rumors in April that the Raiders had made a lowball (as No. 1 overall picks go) for Brady Quinn.

In hindsight, accepting a lowball offer to be the No. 1 overall pick would have been a far more desirable outcome for Quinn, who plunged past No. 20 and will only play in 2008 if one or more pieces of Derek Anderson’s body parts tear, break, and/or shatter.

In considering the QB draft matter…

While there are the Peyton Mannings, Dan Marinos and John Elways coming out of the first round, the later rounds have been productive in the NFL. A semi-complete list of 3+ round draft choices, and their Pro Bowl appearances:

Derek Anderson – 6th round, 1 Pro Bowl
Kenny Anderson – 3rd round, 4 Pro Bowls
Steve Beuerlein – 4th round, 1 Pro Bowl
Jake Delhomme – undrafted FA, 1 Pro Bowl
Lynn Dickey – 3rd round, 1 Pro Bowl
Doug Flutie – 11th round, 1 Pro Bowl
Dan Fouts – 3rd round, 6 Pro Bowls
Rich Gannon – 4th round, 4 Pro Bowls
Jeff Garcia – undrafted FA – 4 Pro Bowls
Trent Green – 8th round, 2 Pro Bowls
Joe Montana – 3rd round, 8 Pro Bowls
Warren Moon – undrafted FA, 9 Pro Bowls
Tom Brady – 6th round, 4 Pro Bowls
Pat Haden – 7th round, 1 Pro Bowl
Matt Hassleback – 6th round, 3 Pro Bowls
Jeff Hostettler – 3rd round, 1 Pro Bowl
Daryl Lamonica – 12th round, 5 Pro Bowls
Don Majkowski – 10th round, 1 Pro Bowl
Don Meridith – 3rd round, 3 Pro Bowls
Tony Romo – Undrafted FA, 2 Pro Bowls
Mark Rypien – 6th round, 2 Pro Bowls
Jay Schroeder – 3rd round, 1 Pro Bowl
Bart Starr – 17th round, 4 Pro Bowls
Roger Staubach – 10th round, 6 Pro Bowls
Fran Tarkenton – 3rd Round, 9 Pro Bowls
Joe Theismann – 4th round, 2 Pro Bowls
Johnny Unitas – 9th round, 10 Pro Bowls
Danny White – 3rd round, 1 Pro Bowl
Wade Wilson – 8th round, 1 Pro Bowl
Jim Zorn – undrafted FA, 1 Pro Bowl

The list of first round QB choices who have never been in a Pro Bowl would be longer than this.
