Former Viking leaves ESPN

February 26th, 2008 – 4:51 PM by Judd Zulgad

On the same day former Vikings receiver Cris Carter joined ESPN, the network plans to announce ex-Vikings quarterback Sean Salisbury will be departing after a 12-year stay as an NFL analyst. Word is Salisbury’s contract was up and ESPN decided not to renew.

Here are the statements from both sides:

Sean Salisbury: “I want to thank ESPN for 12 great years of talking football on TV and the radio. I have grown as much as I can at ESPN and decided to expand my horizons. I have created a brand and it’s time to expand into other opportunities in TV, radio, Internet, publishing, movies and public speaking, among others. My resume speaks for itself as a football analyst, and I believe I can talk all sports with the best of them.”

ESPN’s statement: “Sean Salisbury has made many contributions to our efforts for the past 12 years. We thank him and wish him all the best.”

Grimmace. Which would be fitting, because I do grimmace quite often when I watch T-Jack execute the patented jump-no-pass, or skip a ball 3 yards short of the receiver, or overthrow them by 10 yards, or get blindsided because he has the pocket presence of pocket lint…

Briefly: Defensive end Darrion Scott said he is still open to re-signing with the Vikings but that he will test free agency.

Asked if he has spoken to the Vikings since learning that Kenechi Udeze has leukemia, Scott said, “A little bit, but not much.

“I’m pretty much waiting for free agency to open up and look at all my options,” he said.

Asked if he were open to returning to the Vikings, Scott said, “I’m still open to coming back.

“But I don’t know. We’ll see.”

Not a big fan of the “who we coulda picked game”, although I guess it is amusing. How many teams coulda picked Tom Brady 5 TIMES! And how far down was Montana? Just goes to show that drafting is a crap shoot, and where a player goes in the draft is often as important as when he goes.

Yeah high, I know Strahan has good numbers, even impressive. To me thats not the whole story - I’m just talking about how they go on and on and on about him - he’s they guy they gotta interview, blah, blah, blah. Just a personal thing with him I guess.

REDSKINS LOP LLOYD by Michael David Smith

The Washington Redskins have released wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, the team announced on its web site.

As Gary Fitzgerald accurately writes at Redskins.com, Lloyd’s two-year stint with the Redskins was a major disappointment after the Redskins traded two draft picks to the 49ers to acquire Lloyd and signed him to a new contract with $10 million guaranteed.

For that investment, the Redskins got 23 catches for 365 yards in 2006 and two catches for 14 yards in 2007. He never caught a touchdown pass as a Redskin.

Lloyd was a starter for Week 1 of the 2007 season but was demoted to a reserve role after that. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in a November practice.

So with Williamson Gone does that mean re-signing Ferguson is almost a gimme?

I think the FA’s the vikes will pursue as Far as WR, Would be Stallworth ( philly connection) and Booker the vikes might sign both if that is the case..later fergy

* please note this is who I think the vikes will pursue this does not mean that they are in any way endorsed by Monc*

Monctonvike says:

I think the vikings will try to sign Stallworth and or marty booker

There is an obvious Philly cheese connection with Stallworth and Brooker has been rumored

It was assumed that Ferguson would be back no matter what. I think if we signed both then Ferguson is the odd man out.

( please note that this is not an endorsed move by Monctonvike and in no way or the other is it my opinion of who we should sign…just a hunch)

Scout.com has confirmed the Minnesota Vikings will be trading former first-round pick Troy Williamson to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday. The selection is believed to be a second day selection in this year’s draft. It should be noted this year’s second day of the draft will feature rounds 3-7 instead of rounds 4-7 from previous years. The team gave David Canter, Williamson’s agent, the right to seek a trade.

A league source first told Scout.com at the NFL combine a few days ago that Williamson had veto rights in any deal meaning he could ultimately decide which team he wanted to play for. The trade will be announced on Friday which is the official start of free agency and league year.

The former University of South Carolina wide receiver had been a major disappointment for Minnesota since being selected as the seventh pick overall in the first round of the 2005 draft. But Williamson will get another chance to prove his worth. Jacksonville runs a deep vertical stretch passing game which is a good match for his deep speed.

Williamson will also get a chance to start for Jacksonville and he’ll be reunited with his former head coach, Mike Tice, who was involved in drafting the young wide out. Williamson also should get a chance to compete for the kickoff return job next season.

Interestingly, Jacksonville already has two other underachieving former first-round receivers in Matt Jones and Reggie Williams but neither player possesses Williamson’s speed.

Monctonvike says:

February 26th, 2008 at 7:08 pm

It is being reported by numerous sources, including Scout.com NFL Expert Adam Caplan, that the Jaguars have struck a deal with the Minnesota Vikings sending a conditional sixth-round pick to Minnesota for wide receiver Troy Williamson. Here is what we have been able to gather:

Williamson is a former first-round pick by the Vikings (seventh overall) who hasn’t yet lived up to his top 10 draft status.

Williamson is a 6′1″, 203 lb. wide receiver who was clocked in the high 4.2’s, low 4.3’s coming out of college. Getting open has never been a problem for Troy, as he routinely streaks past secondaries, but his hands have been what has kept his career from taking off. Williamson has routinely dropped passes in each of his first three seasons in the NFL. In three years playing with a very poor passing attack that has had an average ranking of 23rd in the league, Williamson has caught 79 passes for 1067 yards, with three touchdowns. To find out the inside scoop on what the Jaguars are getting in Williamson, JagNation asked Viking Update publisher Tim Yotter to give his scouting report on the speedy wide receiver, and here’s what he had to say–

“Williamson does have speed to burn, and that’s exactly what rocketed him up the Vikings’ draft board during the 2005 NFL Scouting Combine. Prior to that, many expected him to be a late first-round or even second-round pick. However, his Combine performance had the Vikings looking at him to replace Randy Moss, who they traded to the Oakland Raiders at the beginning of March.”

“Williamson has never looked very comfortable in his role, dropping numerous passes on what should be considered easily catchable throws. He has seemed to get better at his route-running the last couple of years and creating separation, but the dropped passes have held him out of staying a full-time starter. He has had some balls that he was trying to locate bounce off his helmet. The Vikings sent him to the Nike Vision Institute in Oregon this past offseason to try to rectify the vision or coordination issues. He worked very hard at getting better, but the sporadic drops continued. However, during the whole process, he showed a great deal of class by answering repeated questions about the process, his confidence and his emotions.”

“A change of scenery, especially being closer to his Mirimar residence, should be good for him. A reunion with Mike Tice, who was the head coach at the time Williamson was selected, could also help him.”

My take on the deal: It certainly seems like a low risk, possible high reward type of maneuver by the Jaguars. Williamson is just 24 years old, and his problems with catching the forward pass appear to be more mental than physical, and perhaps expectations were just too high for him in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

The Jaguars are giving up what is likely a sixth-round pick for a player who was deemed as a top10 talent just three years ago. If Williamson can finally figure out how to catch the ball, the Jaguars found the deep threat that the offense has been missing for years. If not, a sixth-round pick likely wouldn’t make the final 53-man roster anyway, so it isn’t a great loss.

As far as contract concerns, Williamson is due $910,000 in 2008, and approximately $1.4 million in 2009, the final year of his deal. Both salaries are moderate figures, especially considering what the team paid just a year ago for another questionable handed receiver in Dennis Northcutt (4yrs./$17.5M).

This move likely signifies the end of the line for Jaguars free agent wide receiver Ernest Wilford, at least in Jacksonville. Wilford is 29 years old, and many NFL experts believe that he has reached the peak of his potential.

actually they aren’t bad at all

They are Big…. I mean very Big they come ine handy on 3rd and 6th make great possesion catch and move the chains

the problem ….much like us they are a run first play some D kinda team they have a two headed Monster at RB and a QB that makes good decision moves the chains and is willing to run to get the 1st ( kinda what chilly hopes T-jax will be someday). Yet I degress the problem that Jags have is the same as us there is not a Deep threat on WR and thus the box is often very loaded up against these guys. They do very well against it anyway but would steam roll teams if one of their WR’s would command that double coverage

Look, he caught that one!

In what can only be described as an “eh…” move, the Jacksonville Jaguars preemptively began the 2008 off-season as word leaked about a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. The Jaguars, for better or for worse, have traded their 6th round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft for Troy Williamson.

Troy is a former first round pick (7th overall) from the University of South Carolina. Coincidentally, coming from the real USC might be the only thing I like about this trade. Ok, I’m not going to be that unfair to the guy. There has to be something of value there.

First off, he’s fast. How fast? He ran a 4.32 forty back in 2005. That kind of speed would be simply fantastic, if he could prove some sort of consistency in catching the ball.

Of course, that’s what everyone is going to say about this trade. That we got a guy who can’t catch the ball. And that’s fine, it looks like a fair criticism, but let’s remember one other thing about the situation Troy was in up in the great white north.

He’s never had a consistent quarterback situation or any real offensive power to be a part of. 2005 was the dream season of injured Daunte Culpepper and Brad Johnson, averaging a tremendous 20 passing attempts per game. 2006 was another great year for quarterbacks, this time Troy had Brad Johnson, Tavares Jackson and Brooks Bollinger. Finally, 2007, Jackson, Kelly Holcomb and Brooks Bollinger again. Not the most inspiring group of passers, to say the least. Let’s not forget also that the Vikings changed coaches during this young players career, adding some inconsistency on that side of things as well. Playing in Jacksonville with consistant coaches and a good offense should let him blossom into a good player.

VOICE OF REASON:
What are you talking about? The guy had Adrien Peterson eating up 15 men in the box and he still couldn’t get more than 18 receptions and 240 yards in 2007? And if changing coaches hurt his development, how is changing coaches again going to help. I don’t know how much Mike Tice is going to help him the second time around. And yeah, the Jaguars offense is better than the Vikings, but it’s still a run the ball first sort of thing, and he’s shown that HE CAN’T EVEN EARN THE STARTING JOB ON A TEAM WITH NO RECEIVERS. You’ll have to do a better job convincing yourself that this was a good idea than that…

Of course, what was I thinking. now I’ve turned into a Troy Williamson apologist. But if it’s this easy for my untrained eye to jump on the kids bandwagon, there must be SOMETHING there on that the Jaguars coaching staff must see. I should have guessed this was the direction we were going, especially when “young receiver that’s yet to show what he can do” was the description I received about our hunt for a WR. Troy is young, that’s nice. 2008 will be his 4th season in the league. And he’s cheap. 6th round pick. 6th freaking round. Besides, we have some compensatory picks coming in anyhow, so we’ll be fine. Worst case situation is that he is as bad as everyone tells me he is, and we cut him, no harm and no foul. There’s no way that Troy Williamson is our entire wide receiver solution, right? Maybe his stats will tell us something good:

Panthers General Manager Marty Hurney said today that the team is “very interested” in signing free agent receiver Muhsin Muhammad, who spent his first nine NFL seasons in Carolina before spending the last three in Chicago.

“It’s obvious we’re very interested in Moose and he is very interested in playing here,” Hurney said, per Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer. “So hopefully we can get something worked out soon.”

On Sunday we reported that the Panthers and Muhammad were close to a deal. Chandler reports that the deal could happen in the next day or two, and Muhammad’s agent, Joel Segal, says talks are progressing.

“We’re making significant progress,” Segal said. “We’ve talked today numerous times. We’re fighting through a few issues. Moose is looking forward to getting a deal done. That’s been the driving force.”

The 34-year-old Muhammad would most likely be the Panthers’ No. 2 receiver across the field from Steve Smith. Drew Carter and Keary Colbert, the Panthers’ second and third receivers last year, are unrestricted free agents, and Dwayne Jarrett caught just six passes as a rookie in 2007 and may not be ready for a spot in the starting lineup.

VILMA TO LIONS?

The New York Jets are shopping linebacker Jonathan Vilma, a 4-3 defender who has struggled in coach Eric Mangini’s 3-4 system.

A league source tells us that the current favorites to land Vilma are the Lions.

Another question mark regarding Vilma is a knee injury that significantly limited him in 2007. If healthy, he’s capable of creating real havoc.

MORE RUMORS FLY OF EARLY DEALS

One of the rumors making the rounds at the Scouting Combine is, as reported by Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, that the 49ers are negotiating (four days early) with defensive end Justin Smith.

Other players who, as the rumor mill goes, might already have deals include receiver Bernard Berrian, cornerback Drayton Florence, and receiver D.J. Hackett.

Then again, it could be that their agents are merely trying to drive up interest by spreading the word that a deal is done.

For any players who have not been released by their current teams, discussion between new teams and the players (or their agents) constitute tampering. Virtually everyone does it, primarily because no one ever gets caught.

kennyrogers says:

MOSS STAYING PUT?

At a time when rumors are revving up about the possibility of receiver Randy Moss jumping to a new team, Sean Jenson writes in an AOL item that Moss is expected to sign a long-term deal to remain with the Patriots.

Jensen cites two unnamed sources in support of his report.

Moss is one of the most attractive free agents who’ll hit the market on Friday. There are rumors that the Cowboys could make a run at him.

But the Randy show might not play well in towns other than Foxborough. With the Pats, he has strong leadership on the sidelines and in the huddle. And because the team wins far more often than it doesn’t, Moss is less likely to get frustrated or discouraged there.

Elsewhere he’d be paid well, but at the same time he’d be far more likely to eventually erupt.

With all that said, we’d actually love to see Moss back in purple and gold. The Vikings have an improving defense, an exciting young running back, and a gradually improving quarterback who can throw a very good deep ball. They could be instantly competitive with Moss back on the team. And with the franchise lacking much sizzle since Moss was traded to Oakland three years ago, bringing Randy back would guarantee another string of sellouts.

Well, the good news is that veteran receiver Eddie Kennison is a free agent.

The Chiefs cut Kennison on Tuesday, giving him an early crack at free agency and creating some in cap space.

Kennison was signed through 2008, at a base salary this season of $2.5 million.

He entered the league in 1996 with the Rams, and has played for the Saints, Bears, and Broncos. He signed with the Chiefs during the 2001 season after essentially quitting in Denver.

Last year, Kennison caught only 13 passes in eight games.

Kiffin was in Indianapolis, theoretically still the Raiders coach. Though he kept a low profile, he was spotted a few times, notably not wearing Raiders gear. One writer saw him out at a local nightspot dancing. Was Kiffin dancing on his own grave? Speculation continues to rage that Kiffin’s time with the Raiders might be measured in mere weeks. Al Davis always likes to test the NFL’s limits: so can he field a team without a head coach? This bizarre Raiders crisis has been festering for more than a month. The reports have been astonishing, even by the Raiders’ peculiar standards. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was fired, except that he wasn’t. Kiffin was asked to resign and he didn’t. Kiffin has been stripped of his power, either all or part. James Lofton was hired, perhaps to be a backup coach, another Davis innovation. — Monterey County Herald

On the defensive line, players the Broncos are believed to be interested in include Cincinnati’s Justin Smith, San Francisco’s Marques Douglas and Oakland’s Tommy Kelly. At linebacker, Detroit’s Boss Bailey, Atlanta’s DeMorrio Williams and Pittsburgh’s Clark Haggans might be attractive. At safety, the Giants’ Gibril Wilson and Carolina’s Marquand Manuel could be possibilities. The free-agent class at wide receiver is thin, but expensive. Brian Billick said yesterday that he still has never been given an explanation for why he was fired as Ravens coach by owner Steve Bisciotti on Dec. 31, a day after the Ravens finished their 5-11 season. In his first expansive local interviews since being fired, Billick told two Baltimore radio stations - WBAL and ESPN 1300 - “it was a shock” to be dismissed because he got a commitment from the team that he would return for the 2008 season. “It did change, and it changed in a day,” Billick said. “Don’t know why. Haven’t had that conversation, and don’t know that I ever will. But I certainly respect that Steve Bisciotti has that right, and it did catch me off-guard because of what had been said before both privately and publicly. But I will very much understand that that is the right of an owner, and he’s doing what he thinks is in the best interest of the organization.” The Ravens gave him indications he would come back even during the days leading up to the final game, Billick said. But a day after the season ended, Billick said he recognized “what was going on.” His final meeting with Bisciotti was “relatively short.” — Baltimore Sun

Mike Wahle might turn out to be the Green Bay Packers’ best option to improve at guard in 2008 but they didn’t even give him a contract proposal. Three days after being released by the Carolina Panthers for salary-cap reasons, Wahle signed a five-year, $20 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 14 that contained a modest signing bonus of $3.5 million and just $5.5 million in guaranteed money. Wahle said his only contact with the Packers was one or two telephone conversations with personnel analyst John Schneider. “I’m not going to get into it with you,” coach Mike McCarthy said over the weekend. “I’m not going to comment on players going other places. “I’ll just say this. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell earned $6.5 million in the first seven months he had the job, according to the league’s tax return filed on Feb. 15. Prorated over 12 months, Goodell’s pay would be $11.2 million annually. His predecessor, Paul Tagliabue, earned more than that only twice in his 18-year tenure, and not by much. The two years in which Tagliabue topped Goodell’s prorated $11.2 million were the 12-month periods ending March 31 of 2003 ($11.6 million) and 2004 ($11.3 million). — Sports Business Journal

Monc, are you sure we would like to see Randy in purple? Talent yes, but baggage to go along, and I think the experience in NE was a rare location for him to succeed. I’m not convinced he would be a good addition (not that there is much of any chance it could happen anyway.)

Vikings+Moss= instant playoff contention

reasons it won’t happen

1) Kao would mean huge drop in production

2) Childress fears WR’s

3) Kao mostly about route running for all things Moss is a super route runner he is not ( not that it should matter in his case)

4) even thought the former front office is gone Moss will never set foot inside the building again unless it is to play against the vikes or possibly retire (only if he doesn’t win a SB with NE)

5) we would never pay the ransom required for his services

Monctonvike says:

Childress last year when asked about Moss childress said…I am almost quoting him word for word.

” he is not on our Radar right now…he would probobly cost an arm and a leg to get”

what bothered me and still does to this day:

1) One he said probobly likely meaning the vikes never even so much as inquired about him

2) He was had for what a 6th round draft pick

Why Moss would be good

1) well because he is Moss Is he likely on the decline. I imagine he is but 85% of randy Moss is better than 100% of our current wr core

2) open up the game Randy would rightfully be double and triple covered which opens the running game

3) He would also help the rest of the Passing Game for the starting QB and for the other WR’s

He might take an angry tiff ok. Should he be proffessional sure. Look at how McCombs ran this team and the Raiders were when he was there. People play there whole lives and don’t wanna play for a joke of a team. Mike Tice’s regime although we won more than we do now was a joke

Art shell should not be coaching a highschool teaM

Brad Childress Might be all over next year If we sign Moss to a two or 3 year deal then we can take a real shot at the superbowl after. Or childress can prove some optimists right and do something

B. Grant says:

My view is that Randy doesn’t function well when he is the focus of the team. Fine when he came in as a rookie, then a pain when he rose to the #1 Vike. Didn’t work well in Oakland when he was seen as the guy that could change their fortunes. Came to NE as a star among stars already in place - it worked well. If he is here, the focus turns back onto him, and he gets dumb in those scenes.

B. Grant says:

No qeustion that his talent could be greatly beneficial to casing problems in the defending of our offense. Absolutely! Just wonder what else would come along. Not gonna happen, so not worth much discussion. That said, I feel #WR and DE are so critical for us to take the next step.

Clarke struggled as the replacement for Pete Kendall, starting 14 games at left guard for the Jets last season. The Jets plugged in Clarke, who was signed before last season after two years with Philadelphia.

He may have sealed his fate when he was beaten by Richard Seymour on Clemens’ first pass attempt against New England in Week 14. Clemens was intercepted on the play missed the rest of the game and the following week with a rib injury. Clarke was inactive the last two games’

In the world of NFL politics this can only be seen as mistake.

Tried to post something on the shaky NFL politics of the trade to the Jaguar. Of all teams Chili must have known the Jaguar could bring the most Trouble. That’s capital ‘T’ as in Tice.

If Williamson hangs onto a few catches in Jacksonville it will be due to supporting coach building his confidence. If he continues the Mr Magoo w/o the glue preformance what does Tice have to lose. He’s already on record saying he didn’t want to draft him. Tice is in a no lose position at the cost of a 6th (who cares) rounder

Lost Viking says:

Back to Coach Chili. Is he blind to the consequences of the trade or is he just cocksure that nothing can come from this guy? Why didn’t he say now way to TWILL trade to Jag unless he got a Matt Jones or Reggie Williams in return as part of a bigger package?

And why trade TWILL on request to a team his Agent selects for him. Like we owe this guy anything?

Its the biggest mystery of this trade..

highonfire says:

February 27th, 2008 at 1:16 am

a minumum of 4 games and I am pretty confident with that guess. And to answer the trade q’s, can you imagine being T-Wills agent?? How the hell do you sell this guy?? This guy could sell ice to an Escimo! He traded one of the biggest draft bust we’ve had, for a guy who will come in here and desperately try to make this team, T-Will showed this year he doesn’t want to be here, he doesn’t deserve to be here and he just does not love the game of football, PERIOD! Moss has the ability to make an average QB look way overated, much like our passing def does, TWill has the abilty to make a below average QB look worse. 2 negatives cannot make a positive, get rid of one and maybe just maybe TJ’s completion % goes up 2..3%. And thats about as positive as I get when it comes to TJ…LOL

Lost - coaches aren’t nearly as interested in the “politics” of a trade as bloggers are. So what - as to what the future holds for TWill? The point is to get what you can, and everyone knew that Twill had little trade value. The fact the Vikes got anything from anyone is the real story here (was it Kevin or Judd who said “a sucker born every day”). Give Chili credit for that alone. He made someone believe there is some value in TWill. All of us here are saying we are glad he is gone, would have taken a case of beer, etc., but then we wanted more when we at least got a draft pick. There really is little (no) concern about the Tice-comparison politics.

hey, hows everyone doin? its been awhile, but since the ‘08 Free Agency period is looming, I figured I’d jump on and try to see what people are saying about it and what they think the Vikes should do.

I think the vikes top priorities this year are WR, DE, S, and TE.

Some potential names I’d like to see in purple at these positions include:

WR’s - Bernard Berrian, Javon Walker(if and when he gets released), and Jerry Porter. Nobody else really intrigues me as they’d be similar to what we already have, and we need to dramatically IMPROVE here, not remain stagnant, maybe Brandon Lloyd too, but I think Berrian would be nice, Porter might get vetoed because of past problems, and Walker has been injured but I think still could play at a higher level than what we’ve got.

DE - I would have loved to see Jared Allen in purple, hell I wouldn’t be against still offering him a deal even though we’d lose 2 1st rounders. I think a dominant DE would help the defense get to that next level, maybe even dominant. But the best Pass Rushers all got tagged and that leaves names like Justin Smith, Antwon Odom, and Chris Canty. Of that group, I only really like Odom and think he’d be a pretty good signing and would help some on the pass rushing front, plus he’s young. Justin Smith would have been nice 2 years ago but his production has dropped significantly. No one else out there would add anything to improve in my opinion.

S - There isn’t much here, but the group the vikings have could definitely be improved. I hear the vikes have interest in Madieu Williams, but I don’t think he’s an improvement. I would love to see them go hard after Ken Hamlin, big hitter and playmaker, or Gibril Wilson, they might not get the chance though and this might end up their #1 pick in the draft because Sharper isn’t getting any younger even though he still manages to play at a relatively high level.

TE - Visante Shianc-who? wow, what a waste of cap room. unfortunately, there isn’t much out there for FA’s, but there are guys who are improvements. Alge Crumpler, Ben Utecht, and injury prone Eric Johnson come to mind. I think Crumpler would be a good addition as he thrived playing for Vick, and we have a slightly less talented version of him playing QB for us, I think it’d be a good fit.

What do you guys think? I also think they could use some help on the o-line, particularly G, but who knows with the Mckinnie thing we may need a T as well, and there are some good names out there (Faneca, Gross, Adams). The best position on the FA market in my opinion is LB, this isn’t a need position, but there are some guys who could be difference makers (Briggs, Boley).

Anyway, I hope they jump in and spend a lot of money, but not on guys like they got last year.

B. Grant says:

February 27th, 2008 at 8:24 am

TE’s must be able to block for the Vikes - not as pretty for the fans, but necessary for AP/Chester.

Man pijin….. If you are going to bore us at least make it exciting…. :)

Bucky Scribner says:

I’ll tell you what, in my opion, we’d be doing our ballclub a service by drafting Tom Zbikowski, the safety out of Notre Dame with our second pick of the 3rd round….that man is a beast!!! Had an impressive showing at the combine…AND he’s a boxer….that’s the kind of cat you want roaming the secondary!!!

RandomThoughtsGuy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 8:57 am

… is it fiery furnace season already? Dang, and I don’t have my decorations up yet!

B. Grant says:

Inferno Viking says:

Matty - that would be 38 hours, 2 minutes…….. excuse me, my therapist is calling…..

wisvike says:

February 27th, 2008 at 8:59 am

I think G. Mills will be a good, if not great TE. I don’t see the TE position being a necessity to fix.

RandomThoughtsGuy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 8:59 am

… is saying ‘Good Morning’ to Bucky a form of brown nosing? I’ll need a ruling before I can continue.

Bucky Scribner says:

February 27th, 2008 at 8:59 am

OMG…I have to agree with wisvike. ;-)

2Minute Tommy says:

2Minute Tommy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:01 am

Bucky, it happens, every once in a while it happens.

RagnaroK says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:01 am

B. Grant - I agree with your TE statement BUT, I said those names because we got ZERO production in the passing game from our TE’s. Shiancoe is a decent blocker, and Kleinsasser is forgotten but in my opinion the most underrated aspect of the vikings ground game due to his blocking prowess, the guy is a mauler, probably a top 3 blocking TE in the NFL, go back and watch him if you can, he is a very large part of why the Viking running game was successful, so I’m not underrating that aspect, but with that said, I’d say we’re pretty set on ‘blocking’ TE’s, we need to improve on the receiving aspect at that position.

wisvike says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:02 am

LOL, I also will have to agree with Bucky on Tom Z. He sounds like he is a beast, putting up good numbers at the combine.

B. Grant says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:04 am

You’re dating yourself Tommy. You just sent half this blog into internet research mode.

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:04 am

Fedoruk, Boogaard and Simon…….yep, I want them representing me.

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:05 am

They’d be similar to Reggie Bush’s attorneys……and their bodyguards.

B. Grant says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:07 am

“Prowess” has been used twice this morning already. What a literate bunch of bloggers! (No offense intended Buster) :-)

KatoVikesFan says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:09 am

Welcome back, RagnaroK. Long time no blog. What the heck happened at NDSU yesterday?

2Minute Tommy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:09 am

How can any Wild fan cheer for Simon? The guy takes being an enforcer too far.

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:11 am

I don’t cheer for any one person. I cheer for the team.

2Minute Tommy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:11 am

Huey, Dewey and Louie

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:12 am

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:12 am

JUST WIN BABY!!!!!!!

RagnaroK says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:13 am

hey Kato, ya its been awhile, I’ve been extremely busy adapting to the new job and had some health issues, but I’m still alive and kickin and doin well now.

I haven’t heard what happened at NDSU? what did you hear?

2Minute Tommy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:14 am

It is a big deal when you stomp on a player with your skate or you swing your stick and hit an opponents neck.

2Minute Tommy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:15 am

I don’t think Simon improved the Wild at all. So the Just Win Baby is a meaningless statement.

Inferno Viking says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:15 am

I can cheer for Simon. Now Paula on the other hand, needs to sober up before the shows….

RagnaroK says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:16 am

oh, it looks like some jack@ss brought a gun onto campus and got caught by custodians cleaning it in a bathroom… a pellet gun, wow.

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:17 am

Your opion is just as meaningless…. :D

KatoVikesFan says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:18 am

I heard something about a gunman at one of the downtown Fargo campus, but nothing actually happened. They had the buildings locked all day after that, though. Turned out to be not so serious… the guy had a pellet gun. I just found the article… here it is:

http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/ndsu/main/campusupdates/campus.update.pdf

I thought you were a student there so I thought you knew more about it….

B. Grant says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:18 am

Tommy’s right King. Say you’re sorry.

“you’re sorry”

That’s better!

Viking Queen says:

FargoVikesFan says:

Kato, some moron brought a pellet gun onto the downtown campus.

here’s the story from the Forum…

http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=193078&section=news

2Minute Tommy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:20 am

At least we agree on something King! :D

Coach, mind your own business…

RagnaroK says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:20 am

guy sounds like a real asset to society as well. got out of prison six weeks ago after serving 9 years for aggravated robbery and burglary. Also had over 90 incidents that required discipline while in Prison, including punishments that sound like he was thrown in the solitary ‘hole’..

matty927 says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:21 am

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:21 am

Yeah! Who asked you? :D

FargoVikesFan says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:21 am

And Randy needs to quit calling everybody and their dog “DOG”

RagnaroK says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:22 am

Kato, ya I just read that same article, I was a student there, but I’m back down in the Cities, I’ll have to call some buddies…

FargoVikesFan says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:22 am

Does the Slow Down Cowboy have any trade value? maybe we can get a 5th rounder for him…

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:23 am

A good crosscheck to Simon’s spine should help….

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:24 am

I thinks the fact that Tom Z can Box, should bring him from the 5th round to the 1st!!!

matty927 says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:24 am

inferNO!! i was only a couple hours off!!j/k…anyway a few of you TE lovers out here have forgotten the prowess of Jeff Dugan…Kleinsasserbadankles has stayed in MN by not saying anything and avoiding people that matter…shows up on gameday, puts on an old jersey and gets in the game through coaches muscle memory to grab the guy next to him and put him in the game when someone screws up LOL…sometimes…I tell you…ramble on and just go…

wisvike says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:26 am

Jeff Dugan is more of a full back than a TE.

Bucky Scribner says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:27 am

Here’s my opion…every time a person brings a gun to school, that person should be executed no questions asked, moved right to the head of the line…shot in the head..who cares how, just executed. That would put a stop to that…unless the person is mentally ill of course, then that won’t do a thing…as a matter of fact, never mind…

matty927 says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:28 am

maybe the fact that Tom Z can box would get him on the wing at excel energy center…maybe risebrough will try to sign him before the draft

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:28 am

It will ensure that person never does it again.

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:29 am

Survival of the fittest. Natural selection. Mercy is for the weak. No surrender. No retreat….yadayadayada.

wisvike says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:30 am

Here is an idea with kids and other people acting out stupidly, more for bad kids: Let the kid get spanked and smacked around a little by there parents when it is deserved and maybe the kid would listen and wise up a little. Now, you lay a finger on the kid you get arrested. There is no control over kids anymore because the law protects them from discipline.

Fragile Fred Smoot says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:30 am

I wish Tom Z was here right now, so he could Box with Buckys….

RagnaroK says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:31 am

sad part about your execution suggestion…most if not all of those people go through with their actions with the intention of dying themselves or committing suicide after, I don’t think that’d stop ‘em.

KingKC uhda TC says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:32 am

That way the parent gets locked up and later on in life so does the child.

prison = big business = big $$$

matty927 says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:32 am

or maybe the respective governors should start putting nat’l guardsmen in everyschool, armed to the teeth, to include hand grenades and claymores…kids would stop messing around if they thought, “around this corner could be a claymore”

if in doubt, the claymore is pointed towards you!

wisvike says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:33 am

Why do we need more clay?

Viking Queen says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:34 am

Did you see the Red Lake is suing the company that developed their emergency plan?

Bucky Scribner says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:39 am

Good point RagnaroK…that’s what I thought about when I said that about them being mentally ill…

I have to agree with wisvike again…DAMMIT…I never spare the rod when it comes to my two boys…you screw up, you get a couple of swats..that’s why they are well behaved, and very well mannered boys…my dad beat my but when I needed it, and look how I turned out….wait, never mind again.

RandomThoughtsGuy says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:39 am

… hopefully, they did a better job crafting their own emergency plan in the event they did a poor job planning for someone else. Looks like they’re going to need it …

KatoVikesFan says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:41 am

matty927 says:

Viking Queen says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:45 am

CDH lost to Forest Lake. Ha!

wisvike says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:49 am

Alright Bucky, we actually have agreed on many things, the only real disagreement I know of is Joe Buck. So why is it so bad to agree with me? (Buster’s Comments not necessary.)

February 27th, 2008 at 9:54 am

[…] So, while a pap of a story on one of ESPN’s many NCAA Hoops analysts, Doug Gottlieb, is featured in USA Today, the news of Sean Salibury’s sudden exit from the NFL crew is relegated to newspapers like the Minneapolis Star-Tribune sportswriter’s blog section; and the only reason why it’s there is because former Minnesota Vikings wideout and 2009 Hall of Fame inductee Chris Carter was just signed by the Big Sports Machine (no pun on the first and baddest late-night tv-ised sports show ever, “George Michael’s Sports Machine” that graced the Washington, D.C. Metro area for decades). […]

Inferno Viking says:

February 27th, 2008 at 9:57 am
