Working the room here at the NFL Scouting Combine we’ve come up with a partial list of the teams that appear to be interested in Vikings receiver Troy Williamson. The Vikings have given Williamson’s representative permission to shop the seventh-overall pick in the 2005 draft. Among the teams that might be in line to make a bid for Williamson are Miami, Jacksonville, Oakland, San Francisco, Seattle and Tennessee.
The Jaguars are an interesting candidate because Mike Tice is on the Jaguars’ coaching staff. Tice, of course, was the Vikings head coach when the team drafted Williamson. James Harris, the Jaguars’ vice president of player personnel, said this afternoon that he has not talked to the Vikings about Williamson.
“We haven’t had that conversation yet, so I really wouldn’t want to speak on it,” Harris said. “That’s another team’s player and you’re not supposed to speak on that.”
first? that’s twice today!!
thanks beef writter
HALL WANTS OUT OT ATLANTA
After making himself into a pain in the butt for the Falcons for much of the past year, cornerback DeAngelo Hall is now livid over the fact that the team would consider moving the chronic malcontent.
Hall says he feels “betrayed” and “stabbed in the back” by the Falcons, who reportedly are entertaining trade offers for the four-year veteran.
“I don’t want to stay there,” Hall said on Friday, adding that his chances of returning to the Falcons in 2008 are “slim and none.”
Hall, a first-round pick in 2004, is signed through 2008. He previously has said that he intends to give free agency a try when his contract expires.
( Hall for twill ?)
you gonna improve on the 40 this year Judd?
Juggzy must have been reading your posts, 2MT
well, its been fun, but gotta run.
off to pick up my daughter and go to the Home and Garden show…
Blog Ya later!
Vikes better hope none of these other teams have access to YouTube. TWill has quite a nice little lowlight reel collection over there.
Could be gr8scot? I’m not sure, but I thought it was Tice because he needed someone to replace Moss….neither here nor there.
I think the Vikings chances of DeAngelo Hall wearing a Vikings uniform is zero. He’s got the attitude Chili doesn’t like.
Lost - it was a combination of FVF and mine that Judd stole the ideas from.
Judd = Crook!!
LOL Jake!!!!
He also dislikes #`1 caliber WR’s emotion and People
SDC, male or female, doesn’t matter - because if ‘it’ attempted to kiss my arse I’d give ‘it’ a roundhouse kick in the mush…
Judd I thought I was in charge of the copy and paiste department? LOL
I’d take a used pair of cleats for Williamson…..
GPG - how is your roundhouse kick these days?
Bye Gargo! Have fun dreaming!
Bucky = SOLD!!!!!!
Mornin’ err afternoon Bucky!!
Yeah, evidently Hall wants to win and doesn’t tolerate fools well. Two strikes
Thank Jeff the Packers are NOT listed as interested in Paddle Hands Williamson.
2MT - it’s very swift and very strong, thank you for asking
How is yours?
Not good GPG, if I tried I think I’d pull a hammy!
Afternoon 2MT!!! What in the world could we possibly get for Williamson….a 3rd round pick AT BEST?!?! Oakland are idiots, maybe they’d give up their 2nd….
SEAHAWKS WON’T COMMENT ON ALEXANDER RUMORS
Well, we’re already stirring up trouble in Indianapolis. And we’re not even in Indiana.
In response to rumors we’ve heard from multiple folks at the Scouting Combine that Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander might soon be shoved into the Pacific Ocean, the team has declined comment.
Per Clare Farnsworth of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the team said that the rumor “doesn’t deserve a response.”
But what Farnsworth wrote next makes us wonder whether the ‘Hawks are protesting too much, if Farnsworth is parroting something he was told by the club: “If he is released, it would likely come after June 1 to spread the cap hit on the remaining proration of his signing bonuses over the next two years.”
Wrong. Under the current CBA, two players per team can be cut before June 1, and the transactions can be processed as post-June 1 moves.
The better argument against releasing Alexander now is that the team would have more leverage to squeeze Alexander to take a lower salary if he’d be cut at a time after the bulk of the free-agency money has flowed. It’s another reason why agents negotiating these long-term, big-money deals need to shift some of the salary money to roster bonus payments due in late February or early March. Such terms force teams to decide sooner rather than later whether a change should be made.
( we vould try him at safety or DE?) Maybe Shawn could be our number one WR?
I just pulled my hammy THINKING about doing one.
8-10 teams interested in TWill…find that hard to believe…must be the 8-10 teams we haven’t played since he’s been in the league
Bucky - Good question, I think a 5th or 6th round pick would be a place to start, if that’s not a viable option a 7th rd pick or left overs from a Scandinavian Smorgesbord?
Have a great weekend!!
Peace All!
“Don’t call yourself a Realist if you’re Wishy Washy”
c-ya my man
this website says that Twill stinks
Sorry I missed so much good stuff again (dang work)…a few responses / retorts:
If (when?
) I ever join the dark side it will immediately become the Light!
RTG - no to 10 TDs and 11 INTs; let’s say +6 in the TD to INT spread = acceptable for year 3 (hoping for even better)
Based on preseason predictions, I think it’s fair to say the “Optimists” have at least an equal claim to the title of “Realists” as the “Pessimists.”
Back to DE
INDIANAPOLIS — Like the rest of the organization, Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman was blindsided recently by the news that defensive end Kenechi Udeze had been diagnosed with a form of leukemia.
From a strictly football standpoint, though, Spielman said it didn’t force a major reshuffling of the team’s offseason plan.
Defensive end might be a higher priority now than it was a few weeks ago, but Spielman said the Vikings’ philosophy is to aggressively scout every position, regardless of need.
“That’s why you try to be as thorough as you can when you’re going through the process,” he said. “You never know what happens. We always try to take the approach that every position’s a need and do the same amount of work that you do on a position that maybe seems like more of a need. Because you just don’t know.”
Like coach Brad Childress, Spielman extended his thoughts and prayers to Udeze, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatments at Fairview Southdale Hospital and whose real-life battle obviously outweighs any football concerns.
With Udeze expected to miss at least this season, though, Spielman acknowledged that defensive end is a top offseason priority.
“Understanding what KU’s situation is, you’re definitely going to have to look to see where you address that,” he said. “Whether that’s in the draft or free agency, that’s something that we’ll have to definitely look at.”
Cincinnati’s Justin Smith is the class of a thin

free-agent crop, but this is a good draft for defensive ends, with Florida’s Derrick Harvey and Calais Campbell of Miami (Fla.) two players who could be available to the Vikings with the 17th overall selection.
Campbell is considered a more complete end than Harvey, a speed pass rusher who isn’t as strong against the run. But an outside rush man would seem to be just what the Vikings’ defense needs.
“Everybody would love to have speed edge rushers,” Spielman said, “and if there’s an opportunity we could add to that. But we also have a lot of confidence in our guys. (Brian) Robison is going to be a good pass rusher. Ray Edwards is a good pass rusher. Jayme Mitchell keeps developing each year. We have a lot of youth at that position that is going to continue to improve.”
Even so, with Erasmus James still struggling because of knee problems, Darrion Scott headed to free agency and Udeze facing an uncertain future, defensive end is a position that the Vikings seem certain to address in free agency or the draft, or both.
Among the other subjects Spielman discussed on opening day of the NFL scouting combine:
– Safety: With the release Wednesday of starter Dwight Smith, the Vikings have an obvious need at the position, and Spielman indicated the team would move quickly to fill it.
“We’ll look at everything from a trade to this upcoming free-agent market to the draft,” he said. “That will be something that we’ll definitely try to address here in the near future.”
Dallas took Ken Hamlin off the market Thursday by designating him as its franchise player, leaving Jacksonville’s Sammy Knight and the New York Giants’ Gibril Wilson as the best of the free-agent safeties.
Minnesota also might have an interest in Cincinnati’s Madieu Williams, a second-round draft choice in 2004, when Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier held the same position with the Bengals.
– Troy Williamson: Spielman shed no light on the future of the former No. 1 draft choice, who is under contract but could be headed elsewhere after three disappointing seasons.
“We’re still in the talking process,” Spielman said. “We have no comment on where he’s going or what’s going to happen to him right now. There’s a lot yet to be determined.”
Williamson’s agent, David Canter, was scheduled to meet with the Vikings but said Thursday night that he had no news to report.
– Free agency: Spielman said the Vikings remain committed to building through the draft, but with an expected $30 million in cap space, he said they also could be a bigger player in this year’s market.
“If there are some blue-chip type players out there, we’ll try to do everything to take a swing at them if we can,” he said. “Regardless of position.”
Spielman said the Vikings’ first priority this week is to meet with agents for each of their nine unrestricted free agents.
That doesn’t mean the team will make contract offers to all nine, but Spielman said the Vikings haven’t closed the door on any of them.
“We never write anyone off,” he said.
Briefly: Spielman said the Vikings already have a list of 35 players who might come off their draft board because of character questions.
Asked if the team could make some more roster moves before the start of free agency Feb. 29, he said: “Potentially there could be a couple more things. Everything’s etched in oatmeal in this business
I’m out for now…have a good weekend!
Monc! You start your cut and paste spectacular and everyone leaves
I’m out too - have a great weekend!
HIGH DEMAND FOR BUTTER-FINGERED RECEIVER?
Agent David Canter claims that more than eight teams are interested in Vikings receiver Troy Williamson.
Okay. But why?
Williamson runs fast, but he can’t catch. Whether it’s because he’s got hands of stone or eyes of glass, he just can’t catch.
“It’s a very positive situation,” Canter said, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “They’re letting us put together the trade. There’s already been some offers and preliminary discussions. Troy is really excited and he’s just anxious to see where he ends up.”
Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the Dolphins, Jaguars, Raiders, 49ers, Seahawks, and Titans all could be interested in Williamson, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2005 draft.
Monctonvike, I definitely couldn’t have figured out that TWill is awful without having read that article. Thanks for the keen insight.
-Captain Obvious
Hoopla…nobody is interested in Williamson but his agent. I would get more satisfaction from cutting his sorry azz then the 6th round pick in return….
“Minnesota also might have an interest in Cincinnati’s Madieu Williams, a second-round draft choice in 2004, when Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier held the same position with the Bengals”
Yes, this guy would be an good fit for our Safety needs. Not a player many know much about…
I’ve heard Terrance Holt from the Cards too is a possibility at safety also…
If there is REALLY this much interest in LaTroy W - It should drive his value up…. maybe a 4th rounder???
FIRE CHILDRESS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!
TWILL does get separation and is open deep at times. That, his age and the relatively low price tag
Another guy with concussion issues is Trent Green. Would the Vike take a chance on Green given last year’s experience with Holcomb’s concussion? Doubt the FieldTurf is any softer…
Trent Green is nuts if he tries to play again….. BUT that being said he has more skills than all 3 of our QB’s combined….
FIRE CHILDRESS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!
SOme good stuff on WR FA’s & draft possibilities..

I am ok with us Signing Green…..for 100k a year sure …other than that he better be carefull or he will be drooling on sports desk like eric lindros’s little brother
The problem with signing a FA QB is that TJ will never start the season, because the FA would look so good in comparison we’d be left with the difficult task of benching TJ, then what would Chilli do if his pet project was on the bench?
The contract given to Colts TE Dallas Clark is worth $6.9 million per year.
LOL I think Vishanco makes more
Last month, Smith pleaded guilty to obstructing traffic, a petty misdemeanor, and had charges of marijuana possession against him dismissed last month stemming from a December incident.
“I doubt if (the release) came because of anything that happened to me off the field, because it wasn’t that extreme,” said Smith, who had one year left on a three-year, $6.5 million contract. He was due to receive $2.5 million and a $500,000 roster bonus this year.
Asked about the move, coach Brad Childress said: “We’re just going in a different direction. I don’t want to cast any aspersions.”
Smith, a third-round choice of Tampa Bay in 2001, had eight interceptions in his two seasons with Minnesota playing opposite veteran Darren Sharper and recorded 155 tackles. He started 26 of 28 games in which he played, missing four this past season because of a hamstring injury.
The two games Smith did not start came because Childress benched him. Once he was late for a meeting and on another occasion he got into an argument with the coach.
Childress called the move “the right thing to do” heading into free agency, which starts Feb. 29. “It will give him and his agent an opportunity to explore his options,” Childress said
Said Smith: “(Childress) told me that and I definitely appreciate that because last time I was in this situation, (New Orleans) held on to me until July.”
Smith’s departure leaves the Vikings potentially in need of help at the safety spot. Veterans Mike Doss and Tank Williams are set to become unrestricted free agents on Feb. 29. Either could be a candidate to return and play opposite Sharper next season.
Since taking over as the Vikings’ vice president of player personnel in May 2006, Rick Spielman has made it clear that he wants to build through the draft and not rely on free agency.
As the Feb. 29 start of free agency nears, Spielman and coach Brad Childress again will look to add here and there but don’t expect the Vikings to go on a spending spree despite having around $30 million in salary-cap room.
Last year the Vikings signed receiver Bobby Wade (five years, $15 million); tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (five years, $18.2 million); linebacker and special teams ace Vinny Ciurciu (three years, $3 million); and safety Mike Doss (one year, $1 million) in March.
The Vikings also pursued receivers Kevin Curtis and Wes Welker but the former decided to sign with Philadelphia and the latter was dealt from Miami to New England. Welker was a restricted free agent.
Spielman said this free-agent class has a few more “blue chip” players than last year but pointed out that several top free agents have had the franchise tag placed on them.
Asked if he’s altered his approach to free agency at all, Spielman said: “I think the philosophy (has changed) a little bit just because (last year) was my first time around the circle (in Minnesota). Now, with the young guys playing well for us and we do have some older vets here, we have a little bit of a window here with some of our veterans. We may be more aggressive if we feel there is a blue-chip guy out there that we go out there and take a swing at him.
“We were pretty aggressive trying to go after some guys last year. But also I think there comes a point where you have to have enough … a breaking point. Where this guy goes beyond that breaking point and you have to have enough discipline to say, ‘OK, he’s gone, what’s our next phase?’”
Spielman did say the team planned to meet with the agents for the Vikings’ group of free agents at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Vikings’ list of unrestricted free agents includes Doss, receiver Robert Ferguson, defensive tackle Spencer Johnson, running back Mewelde Moore, fullback Tony Richardson, defensive lineman Darrion Scott, linebacker Dontarrious Thomas; and safety Tank Williams
NOTES
Rick Spielman, the Vikings’ vice president of player personnel, declined to speculate on the future of receiver Troy Williamson. Williamson, the seventh-pick in the 2005 draft, has failed to live up to expectations. “We have no comment on where he’s going or what’s going to happen to him right now,” Spielman said. “There is a lot yet to be determined. I don’t think we line up and play until September.”
The Vikings again will bring in all 30 draft prospects allowed to visit the team on the same day. Spielman said the team will play host to the players in April.
The Vikings got a good start on the interviewing process at the Senior Bowl talking to more than 90 prospects in Mobile, Ala.
Spielman on reports the Vikings might be interested in veteran quarterback Trent Green: “I’d rather not say who we are intrigued by and who we are not intrigued by. I’d rather keep that in house.”
Spielman on if the Vikings might move up or down from the No. 17 spot in the first round of the draft: “You never know. We made a couple moves last year. If an opportunity presents itself you weigh that in with what’s on your board. If there’s a player up there we may go up and get that guy at 13 or 14. If we think that highly of him and he can be that big of difference maker. If we’re stuck at 17 we may try to bail out because I think that overall depth of this draft is pretty good. You’re going to get some quality players through the middle rounds. We were able to get some quality players last year through the middle rounds with some of our picks that ended up playing and contributing a lot. You can make some hay I think through the middle rounds with the depth of this draft. Especially at certain positions.”
QUOTE TO NOTE: “I think coach (Brad Childress) has addressed that and the privacy that KU wants. I just know that all the thoughts and prayers from everybody in the organization are with him. He is a fighter on the field and he’ll take that same approach as he fights this next battle in his life. Just leave it at that.” — Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman on defensive end Kenechi Udeze, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
In three seasons with the Vikings, Williamson has 79 receptions, 1,067 yards and only three touchdowns.
The Vikings could end up with a player or a draft pick if they trade him.
“A couple pitches I heard: ‘Are you set and cemented that it’s got to be this and this or it’s got to be this and a player?’ We’re not. We’re just listening,” Childress said Friday morning after other teams were learning of Williamson’s availability. “David is the guy that’s drumming up the business.”
Of course, having teams find out the news at the Combine is convenient and expedite the process. Teams can conduct more face-to-face sessions with the Vikings to gauge their interest in potential deals.
“It saves you a bunch of phone calls when you see them all face to face and the word is out there,” Childress said.
Childress said the move was “a decision we made organizationally.”
“It was a mutually agreeable situation,” Childress said. “David was happy to be able to have that latitude to do that and we wanted to give him the ability to do that.”
The Vikings and Williamson worked together with the Nike Institute in Oregon to correct a problem they spotted with him being able to track the ball in the air. He also spent additional time catching thousands of footballs launched from the JUGS machine after practices and at his home.
“The investment on our part was really more of time and was a Nike investment. … All you’re trying to do is heighten skills and give a guy every tool you can. Nothing ventured, nothing gained,” Childress said. “There are some that will have success with the things that you put in place and there are some that won’t. It doesn’t mean that he won’t if he goes somewhere else. It doesn’t mean he won’t if he stays. You don’t know.”
Childress couldn’t recall a player being allowed to seek a trade and then remaining with the same team, but he didn’t rule out that possibility in this situation.

Monc,
In all the excitement I didn’t get much of a response to my question….
‘Before this season Bernard Berrian was ranked as 35th best receiver; one behind Joey Porter. Donte Stallworth was 31st. Muhsen Muhammed was one behind Berrian and Seahawk DJ Hackett at 37th. Javon Walker was around 12th but had poor ‘07 season’
Which of these six Vike should target based on performance in ‘07?
Based on performance in 07 or as potential as a Vike?
How would you rank them as Free Agency acquisitions? Javon Walker - Bronco - is available in trade (2nd/3rd rounder).
